We got back to Axel’s house a little late than we thought, we arrived with music pounding, my ears already bleeding from how loud it is. And the familiar smell of alcohol. There were people that greeted us outside by puking and people making out as they hide in the bushes. Axel pulls me closer to him, I looked up at him his jaw clenching. What is he all mad about? I thought he likes parties.
We got in the house and saw people dancing wildly to the music. My eyes landed on Yvette and Alisha who were talking in the corner. I rushed to them trying to not get lost from the huge crowd. “Hey guys!!” I said smiling. “Happy birthday girl!” Yvette said hugging me a shot glass in her hand. “Who invited you guys?” I asked shouting a little. “Oh, Ezekiel. He said it was your first party?” I got embarrassed, and shook my head. “No, not really.” I then searched around the room and saw Ezekiel talking with some of his friends. “I’ll be right back guys.” I said walking towards where he was trying to get through the crowd. “Hey Zeik.” He looks at me and his face lightens up, he hugged me tightly. “Are you enjoying?!” I nodded laughing, seeing him tipsy. “So, this is the birthday girl?” One of his friends questioned. “Yeah! Mason this is Lilah, and Lilah this is Mason.” He said taking another shot. “I didn’t know that the birthday girl was this pretty.” I hiccupped, and he grabs my hand, “Care to dance with me?” He asked, I bit my lip, a little nervous since I wasn’t a good dancer but I had to loosen up so I nodded and we both went to the dance floor.
I laughed seeing him dance freely, as I just sway side to side. He then suddenly twirled me around and pulled me closer, my body hitting his. He looked into my eyes, “Stunning…” He said as he got closer to me and kisses my cheek. I was to stunned that no words even dared to come out of my mouth. “Here’s my number. I have to go home early, which is a bummer. So just call me.” He winks at me and left. I stood there not knowing what to do, but got pulled to the side by Yvette. “You need to help Alisha out, she wants to-, Omg is that a guy’s number?!” She asked looking at the number in my hand. I didn’t say anything as I was still surprised. “Ehem??” Alisha coughed out, our attention was on her now. “Oh! Right, so, Alisha wants to approach Ezekiel, so can you introduce her to him?” I smiled a little before saying ‘sure’. We walked up to him as he takes more shots by the second. “Zeik, I want you to meet someone.” I said pulling Alisha closer to me. He looked at her and smiled. “This is Alisha one of my friends, and since you’re my friend why don’t you guys be friends as well? And maybe more than friends.” I got hit on the arm by her, I shrugged since I wasn’t really good with these things. “Sure!” I pushed her closer to him as she bumped into his chest. I blushed seeing them so close and I remembered what happened with Mason a few minutes ago. “I’m just gonna take off…” I said awkwardly going up the rooftop hoping that no one was there.
Once I got there I surprisingly saw Axel sitting down with a beer on his side, I sat next to him making him look up at me. “Why are you here party animal?” He chuckles, “I’m not liking this party.” I tilted my head and he noticed at how confused I was. “I’m not telling you the reason.” I pouted making him laugh. He then looks at my arm, his smile fades, “Who’s number is this?” He asks, his tone was serious. “O-oh, some guy’s number...” He got a bottle of water and washed off the phone number on my hand. “Hey! What was that for?!” I asked a little furious with him. “I know that’s Mason Anderson’s number. And don’t get fooled by how romantic or charming he is. He is a player.” I scoffed and looked at him with one eyebrow raised, “Just like you?” He looks back at me and nods. “Yeah, just like me.” My heart broke, we were about to kiss a few hours ago and that kiss probably meant nothing to him, since he was and would probably always be a player…
I didn’t know what to say, my brain went blank. I stood up, “Can you drive me somewhere?” He looks at me with no mood. But I insisted.
We got to our destination which was the cemetery, “Did we have to go here at night?” He asked looking around the grave stones. I spotted my mom’s grave stone and sat in front of it. I looked up at Axel who was looking around all spooked, “Can you leave me alone for a sec?” He groans and went somewhere squealing like a baby. I chuckled, I looked at my mom’s grave. “Hey mom…guess who turned 18!” I whisper-shouted. “If you’re wondering how I am, I’m doing fine, stressed but fine. And dad hasn’t been back from his business trip yet which I’m kinda glad of. I miss you…I really do.”

“Mama look!” I shouted running up to her as she stopped painting, “Yes darling?” I showed her a picture I took of our dog fizzy, she smiles and kisses my forehead, “What a beautiful picture Lilah! Why don’t you hang it up with the other pictures you took hm?” I nodded and took some tape and placed the picture in the middle of the other pictures I took. She walks up to me and kneels down to my level. “One day those pictures will be placed somewhere where people can see and admire it…” I hugged her tightly, agreeing.
*Present time
A tear fell from my eye, I wiped it off and stood up. I then heard a familiar scream, I saw Axel running towards me, “What’s wrong?!” I asked as he hugs me, his breath shaky, “Some-something touched me!” I rolled my eyes, “Where?” He brought me to where he was standing a while ago and I looked around and saw a twig. I picked it up showing it to him, and he was dumbfounded. “It’s a prank!” He said laughing awkwardly, trying not to make eye contact. I laughed a little and held his hand. “Come on, I need to go to my house, I’ll just get something.” He nods and we both went to his car.

We were almost to my house until he took a turn, my eyes widens, “Umm, where are we going? My house was that way or did you forget?” He goes faster, “It looks like a nice night to just ride around the city. So, hold tight Sugar.” He fastens the car, I hold onto my seatbelt tight as I can, the wind touching my skin just sends me shivers down my spine, I looked over to the meter and saw that we were over 60. I then saw some police cars behind us, “Um, Ax, we have company!” I shouted my lungs out, he looks at the side mirror and speeds up. “Hang on!” I closed my eyes shut not wanting to know where we’re going. We took a few more turns, sirens going off, and a cop saying to slow down. And then we stopped. I opened my eyes and saw that we were hiding in some big billboard. The police cars passed by and the only thing I heard was our fast breathing. I looked at him angry, I hit him a few times as he just laughs. “What is wrong with you?! I don’t want to go to jail!” He laughs some more, “Chill! We’ll be fine.” I scoffed in disbelief, “How am I supposed to chill when we were literally in a car chase Axel?!” He starts the car again, “Would you just have fun for a second Lilac?” Butterflies, and a lot more butterflies.
I remembered how he would call me Lilac when we were little, it was a cute nickname. We were picking out some flowers for mother’s day when we were six, I saw some Lilac’s, showed it to him and he pointed to me, “Your Lilac! Lilah, Lilac!” I laughed realizing how similar it was. And he kept calling me that but stopped when I was 13. How come he’s bringing it up again?
“I mean…Lilah…” I smiled, I had the eager to kiss his cheek, but I had no confidence to do so. “Let’s go now, don’t you think?” He nods and drives off to my house.

We arrived at my house and I looked back at Axel who was watching me, “I’ll just wait for you here.” I nodded as an ‘ok’ and knocked on the door. The maid opened and let me in. Once I got inside, I received a hard cold slap from my father. “You make me sick.”
