A L Y S S A
It was Friday evening and all week we have been none stop practising stop for the boys upcoming game. I grew a lot closer to Josh and another one of Trey's friends called Brett. They were really nice guys and had me in stitches most of the time, I actually shared a few odd classes with each of them. I loved the fact that Josh was really outgoing with his mucky blonde hair which was his statement feature, and his piercing blue eyes always bright and happy, he really was an aura you wanted to be around, even better when he sits making fun of Trey who gets so annoyed he actually gets up and leaves sometimes. Brett is another one who likes to annoy Trey, they've been good friends since they were in diapers, so he uses a lot of childhood embarrassments against Trey which was always fun to hear about, he was another one who was real good looking with his black hair, olive skin and dark, electric eyes, and of course they were all taller than me, all standing around 6 ft, which I didn't appreciate as they nick named me 'shorty' - as in I was a short ass, not the slang meaning for a pretty girl. All 7 of us had actually become really close, we'd eat lunch together, talk in between lectures, go out for food together in the evening, go to parties together. We made a tight little knit group, and I was happy I had such nice friends, and that my brothers didn't bother me too much, especially when it came to hanging round with Trey, besides they had their own life to be dealing with instead of taking so much interest in mine.
VD had been quiet for the past week, well about me anyway, only 3 text blasts got sent out this week and they were about Jen cheating on her test by sleeping with the TA behind his fiancés back. I know right?! Then one about Amy having a threesome with Derek and Jaxon. I had her back throughout that. Then the last one was about my oldest brother, Theo, who saw seen meeting up with someone from another school who was known to be a sketchy weirdo. I did ask him about it but he told me it was nothing and to ignore VD and their lies. I took him on his word but I knew deep down something was going on.
"Am I making it obvious?" Josh said unsure of himself trying not to look back.
"You was, now you're just being weird, looking like you're constipated." I said with sass on my side as I rest my head on my hand flicking through my phone.
"Am I actually? s**t, right, okay, how about if I sit like this?" He changed his posture and it looked even worse as he posed unnaturally.
I laugh at him. "Now you look like a chicken with a broken neck."
He lets out a frustrated sigh before dropping his head on the table.
"If you like her why don't you just tell her?" I shrugged.
"Who? Nadine? I don't think so." He said as he raised his arms to his chest holding his palms out to me.
"Why? She's a b***h yeah, but she won't know unless you tell her."
"Maybe I could say the same about you and Trey then, hmmm?" He raised his brows at me accusingly.
"I don't know what you're on about." I said blankly.
"Mhm. Okay. When you tell Trey, I'll tell Nadine, until then back off."
"Pussy." I rolled my eyes at him before going back to my phone.
"I am not a p***y, but that blonde over there is, I'll be back, if she turns me down." He said chipper before rushing off after a pretty blonde girl who just walked past us.
He's an i***t, I thought to myself.
"This seat taken?" I heard a familiar voice. I look up to see Drew standing there with a nervous smile on his face.
"Josh was sat there but he's on the hunt, so feel free." I smiled gesturing for him to sit down.
"So how've you been? I haven't heard much from you since our date."
I hadn't forgot about that, I was purely trying to avoid it.
"Um, yeah good, sorry, cheerleading has taken up most of my free time, y'know gotta be perfect for tonight's game."
I made up an excuse, I felt really bad but I didn't want to hurt his feelings and be like oh yeah I was avoiding you because I made out with Trey that night, y'know?
"I see, so you wasn't avoiding me?" He asked with a raised brow.
"No, of course not."
"Okay, now I can stop worrying." He said with a nervous laugh. "So you going to the beach bonfire after the game?"
"Mhm, are you?"
"Yeah, of course I am, never miss it. So now we're done with the small talk, I'll get straight to the point."
"Okay? Shoot."
I know where this is going. And I am dreading it.
"Is the text VD sent out about you and Trey true? Y'know, after our date?"
I could see a glint of hope in his eye that it was a lie, but when has VD ever lied? They catch everyone out because other people don't mind their own business and text in others dirty laundry.
"Drew.." I sighed. "It's true but it's not how VD made it out to be. We're friends, and we hung out."
"So nothing happened with the two of you?" He tilted his head preying I answer what he wanted to hear.
"That's something I'd like to keep between me and Trey, if you don't mind?"
"I get that, I just wanted to know where I stand with you.. I wanted to know if you felt the way I did after our date. I wanted to hear you say nothing was going on with you and Trey because if my opinion matters to you, he isn't worthy of you. He wants one thing and one thing only, I just hope you don't or haven't given it to him."
He got up, shot me a sad, tight smile then left me with his words repeating in my mind.
I didn't wanna believe what he said was true because over the last couple weeks I'd grew really close with Trey, on a friendship level, and for us to loose that would be awful, I didn't want to loose him or our little love-hate bond we got going on. But now that's 5 people who have told me to stay away from Trey, 5 people who knew nothing about me and Trey but advised me anyway, 4 of those people cared about me and the other one, Jack, didn't know me from an apple hanging on the tree, but even he told me. I was beginning to doubt the relationship between me and Trey and decided I needed to keep him at arms length from now on until I get my thoughts in order.
I headed to the changing room when classes had finished and got changed into my cheer uniform with my head in the clouds.
"Did you even hear a word I said?" Nadine scowled at me.
"Huh? Sorry? What did you say?" I shook my head bringing myself back down to earth.
"What is with you today?" She widened her eyes.
"Nothing, just tired, what was you saying before?"
"I said, why hasn't Josh asked me to the beach bonfire yet? I've handing him hints left, right and centre." She crossed her arms over her chest and dropped her back against the lockers.
"I don't know, why don't you ask him? Take charge, be that strong, independent woman you are." I shrugged.
I could see the clogs turning in her mind.
"Yeah you're right, I am strong and independent, I will ask him. Thanks, Lyss. Now move your little ass, we got a team to cheer to victory." She said smugly before exiting the changing rooms.
I followed shortly behind her to see Trey leaning against the wall beside the door with his leg c****d up behind him dressed in his jersey and trousers.
"Just the girl I was waiting for. Hello, Parkes." He smirked.
"Hey. Aren't you supposed to be getting ready to go on?" I shrugged.
"I couldn't without giving you this first."
He held his hand up and a necklace dropped out of his palm, it was gold with a wishbone on the end with mine and Trey's initials engraved into the back of it.
"Turn around, lemme put it on you." He smiled.
I did as he said, I was completely stunned, I didn't expect this one bit.
"What is this for?" I asked in a daze as I touched it on my bare chest.
"This is for my first game of the season with you cheering me on from the side lines. It's a reminder of the day we were on the same team. I'm gonna win this game for you." He said before placing a simple, soft kiss on my cheek.
"It's beautiful, Trey. And very sweet of you. Thank you." I was taken back and he knew it.
"Am I seeing things straight or is my Parkes speechless?" He said in a mocking shocked tone.
"Very funny, get on the field, Lake. You're team need you." I playfully slapped his arm.
"I'll see you out there, gorgeous." He said as he walked backwards away from me.
I fell backwards against the wall with my hand on the necklace that Trey just placed there. He just made everything ten times worse for me to get everything straight in my head and he didn't even know it.
"Lyss! Now!" I heard Nadine shout at me from the field entry door.
I jolted at her scream and went running like a little whipped b***h.
I ran onto the track field with the rest of the squad as we all erupted in a unison chant, some of us flipping, some jumping, clapping and then we turn to watch as the football team ran out onto the field earning a massive roar from the fans in the stands. I looked over and Trey captured my eye, and I his, as he blew a kiss my way, smirked then shoved his helmet over his head.
"You two are so damn cute." Nadine squealed.
I ignored her and rolled my eyes.
We continued to cheer from the side lines and watched on as our team dominated the other. Trey was the first to score within the first 20 minutes and I was incredibly proud of him, and I had to admit, he was an animal on the field, he was bolting everywhere, I don't know how he had the stamina but that made my mind wonder into a dirty place, like his stamina in the bedroom. I know, I know, kill me now.
An hour passed by so fast and without the need for overtime, the game was over and we won by a landslide, all thanks to Trey and Drew who shined bright on the field. The atmosphere was amazing with the crowd cheering and screaming in delight, all us cheerleaders were bouncing around with happiness and all the football players were running round the field with one another celebrating their victory. After this game, and how everyone has reacted, I knew tonight's bonfire beach party was going to be amazing. Everyone's spirits were high and we were all on cloud nine.
Me and Nadine met up with Amy and Amanda after the game outside the field gates and were all giving each other a hug and greeting one another when I saw Trey and Josh walk up to us, in shorts, topless, sweaty, looking like Adonis models. I couldn't stop myself from staring at Trey's incredibly toned and ripped body, he was a sight for sore eyes, that much was sure.
"You got a little drool at the end of your mouth, Parkes." He smirked as he gently but quickly wiped my lip, mocking me.
"You're an ass." I roll my eyes pushing him away.
"Well done, guys, you did amazing." Amanda smiled.
Josh wrapped his arm around me and Nadine pulling us into him with a cheeky grin on his face. "It's all thanks to these two goddesses cheering us on. Nice moves by the way, Lyss."
"Thanks, Joshua." I smiled up at him from under his arm.
"So we all going to the party together?" Amy asked with a smile and a shrug.
"Yeah, why don't we take my car?" Trey said.
"Bro, your car isn't big enough for all of us." Josh rolled his eyes.
"Because I'm only planning on taking one of you." Trey pointed out with a smug tone.
All eyes landed on me and my shy form squirming under Josh's arm.
"Yes, you, Parkes." Trey said as he wrapped his towel round the back of his neck.
"Oooooooooo." Everyone sung in unison before laughing and giggling.
"Alright, you childish bunch of weirdo's, why don't I go with Trey and you guys all take Amy's car?" I shrugged as I removed myself from Josh's hold.
"What about Brett and Jack, are they meeting us there?" Amanda asked.
"Yeah they're going with my brothers." I rolled my eyes.
"Oh, Nick is going then?" Amanda's tone was disappointed.
"Yeah, he and Theo are, he messaged me last night and asked me to grab him some new shorts." I said blankly.
"Oh, okay." Now she just looked and sounded sad.
"Is everything okay?" I asked her.
"Yeah, yeah, everything is fine. We'll talk about it later." She answered me before walking off.
I was confused at her sudden change in mood at the mention of my brother but I decided to let it slide with her and bring it up at a better time, not while we're in front of everyone where she's going to feel exposed.
"Is it me or does she seem sad?" Amy pointed out with a shrug.
"She was deffo sad. Has Nick said anything to you, Lyss?" Nadine said.
"No, nothing. I thought they were sweet. Has he to either of you two?!" I turn to the boys.
"Nah. I'm not exactly his go to man." Trey shrugged smirking.
"Nah, shorty, not a word." Josh answered me.
I felt bad for Amanda, I hope everything between her and Nick is okay. I know how much she likes him and I thought he felt the same way about her, but knowing Nick, his feelings grew for her and scared him off. He was just like Theo in that way, commitment made them vulnerable and they couldn't have that, their pride wouldn't let them.
