09 | Diner Dash

T R E Y I walked out the diner to ask Alyssa if she wanted to take her food to go as she hadn't ate much but instead saw her on the phone to someone before hanging her head. "Everything okay, Parkes?" "Ye-ahum, yeah, um, I'm fine, go back in, I'll be right there." Her voice was low and not her normal sarcastic tone. I couldn't leave her like that, she was too precious to be sad, and whoever made her sad wasn't worth being in her life. I walked towards her and stood in front of her as I watched her try to hide the fact that she's crying. "Talk to me. What's made you cry?" "It's nothing, just- nothing." She shook her head and move away from my touch. "You can talk to me, I don't care enough to remember so it's not like I'm going to tell anyone." "Thanks?" She tilted her head looking at me confused. "Stopped you crying didn't I." That was my main intension. I didn't want to see her cry, naked yeah, crying, no. I looked at the diner window where our friends were sitting and laughing then back to Alyssa who was looking in her phone camera checking her appearance, before coming up with a genius idea. "Wanna get out of here?" I shrugged as I smiled at her mischievously. "How exactly?" She raised a brow. "Come on." I dragged her by the arm and swung open Amy's dads car door and nudged her in the passenger seat. "What the hell?" She exclaimed. "Shut up, Parkes." He grunted as he jumped into the drivers side, pressing the start button and off we went. "Where the hell are you taking me? I swear, I'll scream kidnap!" I just laughed at her, she was too cute. "I'm sorry, I don't remember saying anything funny." She said with an attitude. "When have you ever said anything funny?" "You're an ass." I just ignored her and continued driving in the direction we needed to go anyway. Then her phone started to ring and it was Amanda. I quickly grabbed it out her hand and shoved it between my legs on the seat. "Trey, it was Amanda." "That's why I took it because I knew you'd answer." "Well yeah, we just hi jacked their ride and they have no idea where we've gone." I could tell she was irritated We remained silent for a few moments, when she finally decided to break the ice. "Trey, just tell me where you're taking me." "Have you finished being sad yet?" I asked her avoiding her request. "What do you mean? I'm not sad, I'm infuriated!" "You were sad, that's why I took you away from everyone, have you finished being sad yet?" She turned her head to look out the window having an internal debate with herself whether to tell me or not. "So my friends from back home.." "Yeah, what about them?" "Well my best friend, Sam, she's mad at me because I said I'd come home every weekend to visit them and instead I came to find Nadine with you guys and- And, well, she- she didn't take it very well." She sighed the last part. I kept quiet for a few moments, wondering how to word what exactly I want to say without sounding like an asshole and making her close down on me. I could see her from the corner of my eye as she studied me, trying to make out what I'm thinking, but unbeknown to her I have an excellent poker face, I'm used to hiding my feelings that I don't even know when to show them at times, but something about knowing this girl for a week makes me want to change it and for me that was impossible to think about. "Well, if you want my opinion.. I think you're best friend isn't a best friend at all." "How would you know? You don't even know her." "I don't need to know someone to form my own opinion on what I think they're like. This is from my perspective, if she really was your best friend she wouldn't be mad that you've come to help your new friends out, she would've understood, knowing you're a good person and accept the fact that you've moved away and have other things to think about rather than driving 6 hours back and forth every weekend for them. She would understand that things happen in life and choices come up that change plans we've made in the past. You know? If she really was your best friend, she wouldn't be mad at the saint you are." A L Y S S A I was taken back by what Trey had said, I never expected him to be so.. Forthcoming. He did make a lot of sense and in a way he was right, I decided to help Amy out because I thought Sam would understand, that was my mistake but does that make Sam a bad friend? Or does it just make her human that she's mad at me? "Well, Lake. I didn't expect that to emerge out your normally, stupid mouth." I teased. "What can I say? I'm a man full of surprises. You'd know if you wasn't such a hard ass." "My ass is not hard, it's perfectly toned, thank you." I told him off with a smug expression upon my face. "You, are, welcome." He smirked to himself. I knew full well he was thinking about my ass. "Stop it." I rolled my eyes. "Stop what?" "Stop thinking about my ass." "No." He chuckled. I just rolled my eyes. "So are we gonna go back the guys?" "Nah, I'll just order them an Uber and pay the tab. So what you gonna do about your friends back home?" "I don't know, apologise, I guess?" "Was there a question mark at the end of that sentence." "I don't know anymore." I sighed. I wanted to say thank you, and that he wasn't as bad as I thought he was, but then that would inflate his ego even more and I certainly didn't want to deal with those consequences. "Are your.. pants buzzing?" I questioned him with a raised brow. He looked at me with a smirk on his face and a glint in his eye. "Take the wheel would ya, Parkes?" He let go of the steering wheel and placed his hand in his pocket causing me to grab the wheel as fast as I could so we didn't go crashing off the edge of a cliff or some s**t. "Yo!" He answered the phone. I rolled my eyes at his ladishness before he placed his free hand on top of mine that was still on the steering wheel with a cocky smirk plastered across those beautiful plump lips. Ugh this handsome asshole. "Nick, I honestly don't know where this anger has come from, she's very much alive and breathing." Nick? As in my brother Nick? Oh f**k. 'Hang up! Hang up!' I silently mouthed to him as I waved my hands near his face. He did not hang up but proceeded to laugh at me and torment Nick, which in my experience, is not a good idea. "Bro, c'mon now, I thought we were closer than that. I'm hurt, Nick, seriously." He's teasing him, oh god no he's teasing him. "Well, I gotta go, things to do, get it? Haha, bye, Nick!" He hung up waiting for a response from Nick. "Are you crazy?! HE'S GOING. TO KILL YOU!" I shrieked. "Aw, you worried about me, Parkes?" He smiled as he stroked his chin slowly. "I'm worried about my brother doing life in prison for putting you in a coffin." "I'll take that as an indirect yes then." "Take it however you want, but a piece of advice, avoid Nick at all cost." I stretched my eye brows before sitting back in my seat and crossing my arms. We were another hour or so into the journey back to campus and I kept catching myself and Trey taking small, glimpses of each other, then he'd smile to himself, then look again. I couldn't seem to stop myself from doing it though, he was intriguing, one minute he could be annoying as hell making me want to scream until I lost my voice then other times he made me think about everything in a different way. It's like I've known him for years but couldn't stand him for two minutes. "What's on your mind, Parkes?" He asked me pulling me from my own little world. "I could say the same to you." "I asked first." "I asked second, what's your point?" "Nicely done." I just smirk victoriously. "So, wanna play a game?" He glanced over to me for a quick second. "A game? What are you twelve?" He laughs. "I'm serious, lets play twenty one questions." "Okay? I guess, what's the worst that could happen? You go first." "Your favourite colour?" "Grey. Your favourite movie?" "Legend. Your favourite animal?" "Dog. Your favourite class?" "Business studies." He turns and winks at me. "Body count?" "1. Yours?" "Still calculating. Type?" "Tall, dark and handsome. Funny and smart. Your type?" "Petit, blondes with bright blue eyes, a figure to drool over and a witty sense of humour. Do you wear glasses?" "When I have too, yes. How long you being playing football?" "Since I was 7, how long have you been cheerleading?" "I started out with gymnastics and fell into cheerleading but I'd say since I was 10. What's your dream job?" "I want to take over my fathers hotel chain, if I don't become pro ball player. What's yours?" "I want to have my own brand, clothes, make up, shoes, every girls dream. How do you take your coffee?" "Black, 2 sugars, what's your favourite food?" "I wanna say Italian but I'm a sucker for a Chinese. Yours?" "I'm a pizza guy but I could be persuaded to change to Chinese. What's your pet peeve?" "Nick names. Worst fear?" "Being so high I can't see the buildings properly. Biggest strength?" "I'm a solid 10 at dancing, being hilarious, and for my smarts. Your favourite drink?" "I'm a guy so beer? Although I sometimes sneak my sisters Malibu and lemonades. Yours?" "Your sister is a woman after my own heart, I'm a Malibu girl all the way. With Coke. Comfiest clothes to wear?" "Ahh, c'mon Parkes, you're walking into this one, nothing, obviously. Why ain't you letting me get to know you?" "Pass." "Nope, sorry Parkes, don't work like that. C'mon, answer me." "Because you've got a reputation and I want to get through college alive. Why do you have a rep?" "Because I'm rich, handsome and good in bed. Will you go on a date with me?" "No. Why are you trying so hard with me like you haven't got a line of girls who are willing to date you?" "Because they're not you. There's just something that pulls me towards you. Do you enjoy pushing me away?" "No, but it's something that I have to do to protect myself. Do you think you'll ever leave me alone?" "I highly doubt it, Parkes. Do you think you'll ever give me a chance?" "I honestly don't know. Do you think I could get through college without giving you a chance?" "I can't say I do, no. I think you'll give into me. What has everyone said to you to make you see me differently?" "That your bad news and that I should stay away. Do you know why they would say that?" "Because I have an attitude most can't deal with. Do you ever think about me?" "Sometimes, it's hard not too when you're that annoying. Did you tell VD about our kiss?" "No. Do you see James more than a friend?" "No, he's sweet and cute, but no. Do you and Jen have a thing going on?" "Jealousy, cute, but no, we did, but not anymore. Do you and Drew have a thing going on?" "No, there's potential but I'm really not looking for a relationship since Dan. Have you ever had a relationship?" "Does 5th Grade count?" "Is that a question?" "Is that?" "Is that?" I repeated him. "We're going in a loop here." He chuckles. "No, 5th Grade doesn't count." "Then no, I haven't had a relationship." "So why do you want to pursue me without wanting a relationship?" "I said I haven't had one, that that I didn't want one." "Can we stop now? This is getting dangerous." "Aw, just as we were getting to the best questions." He pretends to pout. "Shut up." I laugh while rolling my eyes. The rest of the drive back was actually, not bad, our conversations flowed like a river on a summers night, he made me laugh until my stomach hurt, he irritated me so much I was scared my eyes were going to get stuck at the back of my head but overall, I give it a 10 outta 10, for real. "Here ya go, Parkes. Dorm sweet dorm." He said as he leaned backwards against the car like a damn god. "Thanks, Lake." "For?" He smirked. ""For kidnapping me from my friends, driving me home, getting a death wish from my brother and actually making me feel better." "You're very welcome, Sugar." "Ugh, you ruined it." "I guess I'll see you around." "I guess you will." I headed back into the dorm entry looking back every so often to see him still standing there in the same position with his foot up against the wheel on the car and a smile on his face watching me walk in. That's the moment I knew I was in trouble, and Trey was the reason why.
