'Pretty Please'

Tyler grabbed my hand and tugged me towards the sofa, telling me to sit as the glass shards could hurt me. He took care of them in a moment or two, using magic probably. "Why did it break?" I asked nervously. "It's okay, there's nothing to worry about. You used much more mana than needed. That's all." He approached me worryingly. "Do you feel a little exhausted or drained? After all, it's your first time using these powers of yours." "I did feel a mild headache, but it's gone now and I don't feel exhausted at all," I stated the obvious. "That's great! It means your mana doesn't have limitations, just as I'd expected." He gave me a rewarded smile. "For a magic user, using mana for an extended time can be exhausting, but it's a different story when it comes to you." "So, you mean I can use magic how ever and as long as I want?" I deciphered. "Correct." He walked towards his desk and pointed the nearest shelf. "Just pick any book from this shelf using your powers." Amidst rusty and earthy hues of the books lined on that shelf, a book with blue cover stood out to me. I concentrated on it for five seconds but then peeked at him as a random scenario of the whole shelf collapsing on us, flashed through my mind. "I don't want the whole shelf to be falling on us," I said with a nervous grin. "Well— let's forget it. I have a better idea," he said after thinking for a moment. He adjusted his gaze to a flower vase on the side table. A beautiful white rose floated out of it with a faint voilet shimmer revolving around it and rested deliberately on the table. "Do You like flowers?" He asked. "Yeah, I do," I replied. "That's good, then you wouldn't want to tear this flower apart, would you? You just have to try and lift this flower without destroying it, make sure the flower is intact," he instructed. "Got it, teacher," I quipped. "No, I'm good as a spider." He grinned. For another fruitless minute, I stared at the flower. Nothing happened, nothing at all. "This is not working, it's harder than I thought." I sighed. "Not yet, you can't give up just yet, you can do it, and I believe in you," Tyler said from behind in my ear, our shoulders touching. "Try to feel the magic in you, it's there. Be gentle, grab it with your eyes. And don't lose your focus as it will take much more control over the mana you're going to utilise." I didn't realize how much I needed those words until he said them. But right now, I was in no state of concentrating on that flower, he was too close for that. My throat started to dry out and I was barely breathing. Wobbling a few steps away from him, I brushed my sweaty palms against the fabric of my jeans pants and took a deep breath, exhaling through my mouth. This time, I stared at the flower with mild concentration. I could feel it, it was hazy but there, close to my spine and prickling upwards; my mana. Unlike last time, I needed to carry out this task with more control and care or I could destroy that pretty white rose. I wrapped invisible imaginary tentacles around the milky soft petals and slender stalk adorned with a couple of leaves. Trying to lift the flower in the air; like how easily Tyler did, I gradually lifted my eyes up. To my surprise, it started to float in the air with a silvery-white shimmer. "It's floating!" I jumped in excitement, keeping my eyes on the flower so it keeps floating. It felt so jubilant to finally be able to use and feel my magic. "I told you I believe in you." I let the flower fall to catch his smiling eyes. "You can do so much more." "Thank you, for believing in me," I retorted cheerily. The uncontrollable excitement and sense of accomplishment made me ecstatic. I wanted to call Emalie and tell my Mom about it. However, I knew I couldn't do that and there's a high possibility they won't believe me. "Now that you have somewhat awakened your mana, it should be easier for you to control your powers," He said, "Like, hearing thoughts for instance. Concentrate on what you want. Your powers should heed your choice just as naturally as your body does. Treat them like a part of you, they make you who you are." "I got it, I will try," I replied with a smile. "Who do we have here?" I heard a familiar voice coming from the staircase. Ryle and Kyle were approaching us. "Linna? What are you doing here?" Ryle's eyebrows shot up as his eyes danced between Tyler and me. "Did we disturb you both?" Kyle asked. "Nope, not at all," I said immediately. "Well, if you both are here, I would like you to meet the incarnation of Enchanted Tanzanite, Linnet." His expressions were relaxed and delighted while introducing me to them. This introduction was definitely different. I felt a sort of excitement and pleasure that I never felt before. "Don't tell me, the other part of your pendant that you were searching for like crazy, it's her?" Ryle was literally blown away this time. "So she, you mean our Linnet, she is the other part?" Kyle asked rather calmly. "Yeah, apparently," I said. "Wow, unbelievable!" Ryle seemed astonished. "And guess what, I can also use magic. I have powers that I never knew I had," I told him as we walked to the sofa and plopped on it. While Tyler and Kyle were still standing near the table and talking. "That's amazing Linna! Show me your magic," Ryle enthusiastically pleaded. "The thing is, I'll need practice and Tyler is helping me. So it might take time," I excused and Ryle reflected a hint of dullness in his blue eyes, sulking in. "Wanna see what I learned today?" I asked smilingly. "Pretty please." A smile emerged on his face again. Sometimes with Ryle, it was like I'm raising a puppy. I skimmed the room to search for a light object. There it was. The pen holder sitting at the wooden table. I began to focus on a pen in the pen holder, trying to arise the magic which was now relatively evident. To my fascination, the pen floated in my direction, wavered upon my palm and then finally fell in my grasp. Ryle was looking at all of this with astonishment visible in his eyes. "Whoa, it's Epic, Linna! You're amazing." "Ain't I?" I laughed and we did a high five. As we were giggling and having fun, I felt Tyler glaring at me or us. His gaze continuously flickered between me and Ryle. It was more like he was complaining, that we didn't ask him to join us. Or could it be he didn't like how close we were? Anyways it did bother him, factually, as he decided he couldn't watch us anymore and strode to us along with Kyle. "Did you see that, Kyle? Linna can also use magic. I'm sure that she will beat Tyler one day," Ryle said. "Really, Linnet? You wish to beat me?" Tyler smirked with mocking eyes. "No, not at all. Ryle is just kidding," I stammered following by a short awkward laugh. "Too bad, I was ready to lose." A smirk played on his lips again. "Wait a second. Are you guys flirting?" Kyle asked eyeing at us. Tyler was clearly enjoying it. Flirting might be his favourite hobby after all. I guessed I would have to do it so his enjoyment can break off. "He's just teasing me, he loves to give me troubles." I laughed. "And she loves to curse walls," he added and cracked up. Both Kyle and Ryle were looking at us all puzzled. "Actually, you know what, I need to go home," I blurted out breaking the trance he sent me in. "Okay, since Tyler doesn't leave his library once he is in, I'll drop you, Linna," Ryle said and smiled. "No! Linnet is going with me." Tyler retorted on impulse. "What I mean is, I'll drop her. I need to head out for some stuff anyways." He brushed the back of his neck, brooding and glancing here and there. "Okay, bro," Ryle said, stunned by his reaction just as I was.
