As I stepped out from the, I observed the merry green woods on either side of the greyish road. A car whooshed by and Tyler stared at me.
"Aren't you going to open a portal?" Another car whizzed by, slurring my words.
"Not here." He examined the road and then the woods. "Let's head into the woods, " he suggested.
We dived into the depths of woods with possibly five minutes of walking in silence accompanied by the rustling of leaves, near and distant tweeting of fowls, the chittering of squirrels.
Sunlight infiltrated the interstice of the tall and thick trees. Fresh breeze with the smell of nature hitting on my face, made me want to close my eyes and admire the rare and diversified magnificence, the nature has to offer.
Keeping up with his pace and long strides appeared to be hard. Also, the adorable squirrels jigging on the branches kept getting me distracted.
Discerning the increasing distance, I started sprinting cautiously while looking at the ground so I won't trip over a fallen branch. I hissed as my head bumped into Tyler's back, he had stopped striding. He turned around as I was rubbing my forehead.
"you okay?" He asked in alarm.
I swiftly removed my hand. "Uh, I'm alright."
A beautiful circle of pink and crimson red mushrooms near a tree ahead grabbed my attention. The colours were vibrant and visually appealing amidst the greens and browns of the forest. Specks of golden gleam floated upon them, as if they didn't belong to this world at all.
"What's that?" I pointed towards that circle and began sauntering towards it without knowing as though it was drawing me in.
"Linnet, stop!" He yelled yet I disregarded him. My mind was a blank slate. I kept ambling towards the circle as the curiosity in me grew and grew.
An arm wrapped my shoulders carefully but in a dash, yanking me back. My eyes widened and my steps froze. My world softened, melting away as my back collided with Tyler's chest.
"That's dangerous." He breathed near my ear. His firm grasp on my shoulders turned me to face him. Traces of worry and relief were still there on his face altogether.
"What's... dangerous?" Words barely left my mouth.
"That's a fairy ring." He raised his eyebrows in the direction of that colourful circle while both of his hands were still tightly clasping my shoulders as if he was afraid I'd slip away. "It's probably a rift and there might be fairies in there, be careful."
"You mean real Fairies?" I asked with my eyes wide open. "Are you a fairy too? But you don't have wings."
"No, I'm not a fairy. Quite the opposite." He chuckled. "I'm going to open a portal here, going any further might be risky."
He moved his fingers in a bizarre pattern, violet threads of gleam emerged from his fingertips and weaving a magical opening. The familiar way in, which had scared me, surprised me but not anymore.
A whole new universe awaited me, things I could only imagine would be a part of my new life. And I was going to be audacious.
He extended his hand to me, just a step away from the portal. My eyes drifted off to his pendant again which had begun glowing since I held onto his hand.
It brought back the recollections of last night, along with his promise. He made a promise to me again today and I decided to believe in him. I was trying to believe in myself, the choices I made, regardless of the consequences.
Pushing forward through that portal, we were brought to a cliff end somewhere in the mountains. I removed my shoes to feel the rocky and damp ground with patches of grass underneath my barefoot. Below that cliff, a blanket of clouds and the blue of the ocean expanded endlessly.
"Why did you take them off?" He inquired with curious eyes.
"You said it's your favourite place yet you don't know how to enjoy this place, huh? C'mon take off your shoes," I instructed.
"But– Okay, I'll try your way this time." He took off his shoes and receiving a proud smile from me.
"How does the ground feel?" I asked.
"Amazing."
I moved toward the precipice edge. I had never imagined I'd get this opportunity; this chance to discover how adventurous and gutsy I could be. Without much reasoning, I sat on the ground, hesitantly proceeding towards the edge. Having courage, I reached the point where I let my legs lose in air.
My entire body was rejuvenated with a reckless rush. Adrenaline was streaming through my body. All of my blood started siphoning through my veins and my throbbing heart was striving to break out of its rib-cage. The feeling was mind-blowing.
He stood right behind me wearing an expression full of amazement. I tapped the ground beside me, suggesting him to sit there.
"I didn't know you had it in you," he said as he crouched beside me, letting his legs fall free in air. He didn't even falter, as if he had sat here multiple times.
"Well, to tell you the truth," I said, "Even I didn't know I had it in me."
"It's remarkable!" He locked his gaze on me. "I've been here numerous times but it never felt this good, it's like you add magic to my world." I discerned astonishment in his glistening eyes.
I didn't have the cloudiest idea what he implied by that but he brought magic to my world and that's a fact.
"What was that in the forest before? Fairy Ring? You said something about a rift..."
"About that, you see, the world that meets your eyes is not all. This is the Realm of Mortals and there are many more Realms of entities you might have heard and read about. They are not just a part of fantasy but somewhere in the universe, they exist," He explained.
"There are very few places in every realm where two or more realms overlap with each other, at those places, rifts are likely to be formed. The fairy ring you saw, was not a part of your Realm but a rift that allowed you to see something from the Realm of Fae."
"Okay, so you're telling me Fairies are real, they live in another realm and I had the chance to encounter some fairies but you killed my chance? Why didn't you let me go in there?" I furrowed my eyebrows.
He sighed. "Well, yeah, I killed your chance to get cursed by the Fae. A fairy ring is sacred and used for ceremonial purposes. You're not supposed to enter a fairy ring without an invitation. That would be considered as trespassing," He said, "Sorry to break your bubble but Fae hate mortals so don't step into it if you want to live."
"Really? They hate us? I used to love fairies." I sulked in.
"They hate us too." He chuckled. "We are kind of enemies, " he said in a sarcastic tone.
"Forget about fairies, I want to know more about you and me."
