'His Shirt'

1283 Words
"Here, take it." He removed his overshirt, emptied a bottle of water on it and handed it over to me. "You can use it to clean your legs if you want," he said. Golden Light flickered through the front porch of my home indicating to me that going in while dirt was smeared on my legs was not an option. Mom would ask hundreds of questions and I couldn't possibly reveal that I went to a cliff end through a portal with a Warlock. "Thanks." The thin fabric of his white T-shirt was demonstrating his well-defined abs. It appeared to be difficult for me to just peel off my eyes from him and concentrate on rubbing out dirt from my legs and hands. "I'll return this shirt tomorrow after I do the laundry," I said when I was done cleaning. "Just give it already, you don't need to bother yourself for such things." He took it from my hand. "I definitely need to!" I snatched the shirt from his grasp. "Okay, you win." He shrugged and smiled right after. Mom answered the door with a wide smile as soon as I rang the bell. She invited Tyler for supper but he gave an excuse and left quickly. I joined Mom on the couch where I filled her in about the preparations they had made yesterday for the party and how much we enjoyed it. She didn't seem as though she was greatly interested in what I was telling her, she seemed to be elsewhere. Curiosity seeped through her eyes as I mentioned Tyler and she asked: "This guy, Tyler, is he as nice as he appears to be? You are sticking with him, so I guess he is, right?" Mom asked earnestly. "I can't tell mom. I... I can't hear his thoughts," I told. "I don't follow, You really can't? My goodness, That's a red flag." The eagerness and decibels of her voice dropped down simultaneously. "And here I thought he'd be nice enough for you to date." I kind of knew she would think like that. "Why would you even want me to date him?" "Because... You know he's funny, cares for you and he's got some manners that kids your age don't usually have." She shook her head almost immediately as if making her mind and began saying, "but you can't hear his thoughts so there's no telling if all of that was real or a facade." "It's too late to turn back now, mom," I mumbled laying my head on her lap as usual. "I've decided to trust him." "What? I couldn't hear you properly." She picked the remote control and lowered the volume of the TV. I thanked heavens because had she heard it, she'd think I had already started dating him. Now that I gave it a thought, I had never dated anyone because I could hear their thinkings. I knew the intention behind anyone who approached me. That made me eventually estrange myself from everyone. However, with Tyler, I'm just a normal girl who can't hear thoughts. Just like I wanted to be. 'Could he be my soulmate? The one I've been looking for?' I questioned myself. "Nothing mom... It's nothing." I got up shaking off those uncertainties. Picking up his shirt from the edge of the armchair, I sauntered to my room. Actuality had hit me with a pile of assignments to wrap up. My phone rang as I was busy researching about a project. I ditched everything as Emalie's name appeared on my phone. "Linnet, Linnet, Linnet!" She burbled over the phone. She always burbled like this when she had some exciting news. "Tell meeee~" I pleaded. "I... No-no I better tell you this tomorrow when we meet." "Why? Just tell me already!" Wind brushed my face as I sauntered towards the balcony. "It isn't about only me... It'll be better to tell you in person." "Fine, I'll wait," I said. "But in return you'll have to help me with this biology research project, you must've done it already, right?" I heard her laugh through the phone. "Yeah, of course, why not!" We gossiped a little longer and then Emalie shared some links of related articles that helped me with my assignment. The following forenoon, when I was done with the shower and drying my hair, I changed into a cute yellow button-down shirt along with a white wrap skirt. While struggling to pull up my wavy hair in a bun, my eyes drifted off to his chambray overshirt that I had laundered last night, lying on the mattress. I got reminded of my first day at Neilsen high. He was wearing a similar overshirt that day too. Without a clue, I just grabbed that shirt up and slid my arms in it. The hem almost reached my knees, and my hands were lost somewhere in the sleeves. I laughed at myself, looking in the mirror. And that's when I realized he is a giant. "Nice name, Linnet, I'm Tyler, Tyler Stark." I tried to imitate his deep voice tone and his signature smirk while staring in the mirror. "Pretty talented, aren't you?" Goosebumps popped up on my arms, giving me literal chills as I perceived his voice. Hoping what I heard was wrong and he isn't actually here, I pivoted reluctantly. He was inclining against the wall close to my wardrobe with a perky grin set on his mouth, one arm folded on his chest and holding a toothbrush in his other hand. IN MY FREAKING ROOM. It took me a while to even react. I detonated in absolute shock, "WHAT ARE YOU DOIN-" He covered my mouth with his palm in a surge. "Hey-hey wait, let me explain, I have no idea how I came here. It must be you who summoned me," he whispered in an attempt to calm me. He removed his hand as soon as I stopped striving against him. "Linnet! Sweetie, I heard something, are you okay?" Mom shouted from downstairs. Panic overwhelmed me once again. "I'm okay mom! it was a spider—" I craned my neck to glance at him—"a big one!" I had no freaking explanation if she caught us like this. It wouldn't have been that confounded if Tyler came through the entrance instead of just appear in my room out of nowhere. "Wait, don't panic I'll come and see it myself." I lost my sanity in the spike of that second as sweat streaked my forehead. My eyes were scanning the room, looking for a place to hide this hunk right in front of me. I yanked his hand in a half-successful attempt to tug him towards the balcony of my room. "Hey, you don't have to push me off the balcony. I can teleport, remember?" He grasped my shoulders and I couldn't move anymore. "Then do it before my mom comes," I said nervously. He moved his fingers with violet whirls of glint spilling out and amassing into the portal while I was occupied with glancing at the door and then back at him. Finally the portal formed and I heaved a sigh. "One more thing." He turned to me right when he was about to penetrate the portal. "What?" I asked anxiously. "You look adorable in that." He winked and disappeared into the portal. I glanced down at myself, It didn't hit me until now, that I was wearing his shirt over my clothes. "I'll go crazy if he continues to flirt with me like that," I grunted. 'I need to do something of this power. I can't go summoning him and embarrassing myself in front of him.
