He came up to Artiom, who asked him loudly, “Sannikov?” The ringer started, “Yes, that’s right. And you are, please?” “Where’s the bell?” asked Artiom, not answering the question. He firmly felt that it would cost him nothing to kill this person right now, preferably by choking him. Sannikov started doing something with his cheeks as though he had no control over them. Artiom turned away. “Don’t you dare!” said Sannikov to his back. Sannikov couldn’t calm down for another hour; he kept walking back and forth, looking sideways at Artiom until they called him out for an interrogation. “Ding-ding!” said Artiom as he left. “I’ll come back for you,” he promised furiously.
