Julian's heart seized violently. How the hell could Willa's number be out of service? He sprinted to his waiting car, flooring the gas. But as the familiar streets flashed by, the suffocating dread in his chest metastasized. It felt exactly as though something vital, something absolutely irreplaceable, had been permanently erased from his life. When he finally slammed the brakes in front of his mansion, Julian instantly realized something was catastrophically wrong. Willa wasn't in the house.
