Consequences of artillery

When Drusilla looked at the three surviving elves, she could only feel even more helpless knowing that only they, out of a group of 200,000 elves, had survived.

Although the damage against the elves had been high, the consequences would not appear until 2 days later when another battle led to committing such a large-scale murder.

The elves then realized that the half elves were having completely strange weapons that could fire explosions to wipe out all their infantry.

So they started with all kinds of actions in order to create a way to defend themselves against artillery attacks.

To begin, they decided to use the magic runes which were imbued with magic, this in order to create magic shields which could stop the explosions.

To test them, they used them on the battlefront located on the coasts, because that was where the artillery was worst.

This was due to the reason that the ships used their naval artillery to be able to precisely attack enemy positions on the battlefield with overwhelming power.

During the first tests, the magic shields proved to be useful only for a few moments, although they could stop the explosion of one or two artillery shots.

These we ended up breaking because it could not support the precision of dozens of artillery shots on them.

This did not bother the magic engineers who decided to try creating larger magic runes.

For this, they used red stones, a kind of magical mineral which could store magic, not only that but it could convert the magic of any magician.

In a powerful amount of energy, which could lift the magic runes at all times.

When the day of the test arrived and the red magic rune stones were placed all over the battlefield, hundreds of wizards commissioned to feed them with magic.

To their surprise, they managed to stop the artillery attacks for just 5 minutes, since after that time, the magic shield only worked in areas close to the stone.

The solution was the simplest to place red stones all over the battlefield and keep placing hundreds of wizards to feed them with magic.

Of course, these kinds of energy fields did not go unnoticed by the central command of the human liberation army.

So they used ammunition with more explosives to be able to break the magic fields that were around the battlefield.

At the beginning, the strategy did not seem to work, so with the help of the half elves, they decided to make a small modification to the artillery ammunition.

For that, they placed a black stone on the tip to be able to inhibit any kind of magic that could touch the artillery projectile.

When black stone artillery shells were approved, all the elves’ actions to create magic shields were completely useless.

Pure projectiles simply pierced the magical barriers without any possibility of being able to defend the elves.

In their despair, the elves watched as the half-elves built the trenches to defend themselves from their attacks, so they began to imitate the construction of the trenches.

They used all the earth mages they had available to be able to create them as strong and resistant as possible. This small change so simple reduced the mortality among the elves by almost 70%.

For this reason, strong and resistant trenches began to be built on all fronts of the battlefield to defend against artillery attacks.

But although they managed to find the solution to the artillery well, they realized something, and it was that even though they had superior numbers and quality of troops.

They could not continue advancing in any battle front as the artillery prevented them from advancing directly.

One of the many elven leaders of the armies realized this and proposed to make a completely radical change in the war.

Instead of trying to attack in the traditional number way, use earth mages to be able to create trenches that will reach the enemy trenches.

That way, they could attack trench by trench of the enemy to be able to obtain valuable meters of land that would make them arrive faster.

When this was first tested on the battlefield, it proved to be too effective, so the command of the human liberation army suggested placing it in the trenches at the front.

Large quantities of black stone, to prevent them from using magic so the advance of the elves would have to do manually.

Well, if they could not use magic, their only option to advance would be to use their own hands and shovels to create a trench to reach the enemy trench.

Like the strategy of the elves, it was too successful because doing so prevented the use of earth magic to advance the ten meters between one trench to another.

This created a stalemate again on the battlefield in which the elves began to have a continuous defeat because they could not continue advancing.

The battle front stalled in the trenches, but that was not the only thing that happened as human supplies began to arrive in large quantities.

From medicines to canned food, but the most important thing that arrived was the barbed wire, which was quickly placed on the outside of the trenches.

This to create big obstacles for the elves who will try to make night raids from the trenches of the half elves.

The magical animals were not affected by the black stones, so they could always fly and start their attack.

But not only will the Valkyries make their debut in battle, the elves planned to use gargoyles, dragons and natural golems for this next stage of the war.

Gargoyles were completely wild animals that were trained to kill anything other than an elf.

They reproduce quickly and are almost a pest on the continent.

Dragons are divided into two groups: intelligent and wild. Elves use wild dragons as hunting animals.

For intelligent dragons only exist in the territories of the rebels as the elves led them almost to extinction.

Finally, natural golems are those that are born by magic and in a circle of runes, they are creatures that do not reproduce.

But they have too exorbitant destructive and defense power, because it is a living creature it is not affected by the black stone.
