A solid defense

Alfons, who was sitting on one of the steps of the staircase, took a pack of cigarettes and took one before lighting it.

He didn’t like cigarettes very much, but he needed to relax a bit due to the exhaustion he was feeling.

At that moment, they could see how withered corpses came out of that place. All of them were moving slowly, but there were thousands of them.

So Alfons gave the order to shoot and throw some grenades at those things.

The machine guns at that moment began to be heard, and the withered corpses began to fall on the ground.

Alfons gave the order that the soldiers with flamethrowers would wait by the side of the machine guns and that when they were close, those creatures would launch the fire.

Because of the machine guns and suppressive fire from the Sb-1 submachine guns, the great tide of the undead was being held in the gap.

So their very corpses began to create an obstacle so that they could pass through, what in just about 30 minutes the undead could not pass.

Alfons pointing to the pile of corpses gave the order that they will reload and that the soldiers with flamethrowers will start burning the pile of corpses to buy enough time.

When the fire burned the corpses a disgusting aroma could be smelled so everyone put on their gas masks because they did not know how dangerous that smoke would be.

Alfons, who knew that perhaps his ammunition would not be enough, commanded three of his soldiers to search for ammunition with the rest of the troops in the north.

As the corpses burned and the smoke grew thicker, they could feel something begin to vibrate.

So when they looked at the pile of corpses, they could see how that pile of corpses was destroyed to let through some gigantic withered corpses.

Which had long teeth and a completely muscular body, although their movements were completely erratic.

At that moment, the machine guns began to fire again and Alfons took an anti-material rifle from one of his soldiers.

After throwing himself to the ground, he aimed and shot at the head, one of the gigantic creatures which ended up dying, for which his corpse fell backwards, crushing a dozen undead.

Alfons then used the lever on the rifle to remove the old cartridge so he could put another round in the gun.

After this he fired again, killing another of those creatures, other soldiers imitating what Alfons was doing, fired their anti-material rifles.

So the attack of the gigantic zombies was completely a failure because the soldiers completely wiped out everything that came out of the gap.

This also benefited the soldiers again as the corpses of the gigantic creatures again blocked the gap so that everyone could rest for at least a short moment.

After a few minutes, some soldiers with more heavy weapons arrived at the place, all of them when they saw the corpses of the creatures. They knew that this place was a real danger.

Alfons, taking advantage of the fact of the new soldiers, decided to do something extreme but necessary because for the steel wall to be built, there had to be soldiers guarding the other side.

So, taking his flare gun, he shot the hole and they could see the ruins of a beautiful city.

The walls were covered in gold and gems, but not only that, it seemed to be too big and the light from the flare barely dazzled it.

This did not surprise anyone, for because of the goddess, their nations had so much gold and precious metals that they did not covet the gold of the ancient city.

Mainly because of the danger of obtaining, it was too high.

Fortunately, they could not see more groups of the undead, so they assumed they must be still sleeping or in some other area.

Everyone then moved the withered corpses and created a perimeter at the entrance of the city.

To do this, they placed sacks of sand and some of the reinforcements had barbed wire with them, so it was easy to create a security perimeter.

The silence that existed in that city of the dead was too creepy for everyone because no one could believe that the creatures that had been thousands of years old had not died.

When the soldiers began to arrive, they gave Alfons more support to create a much larger security perimeter.

Not only did they do that, but they brought more flares so when they lit the place with dozens of flares they realized that it was a gigantic city full of luxury.

But not only that, but there seemed to be thousands of undead who were standing unable to move. They could only assume that they could not move because their bodies fossilized.

So they were condemned to live as statues for eternity. Apart from that, there seemed to be no more danger, as it seemed that the dead they had murdered were younger than the dead who were fossilized.

When the welding team arrived, Alfons contacted headquarters, as it might be workable to investigate the city.

The headquarters, upon hearing the description of the city, investigated the place with the highest levels of caution, so Alfons was ordered.

That he only kept the perimeter to be able to take care of the place, in any case being a quite dangerous area the headquarters decided to create in that place.

A secret military base to be able to analyse who had been able to keep the undead alive for so long.

Not only that, but they were interested in knowing what happened in that city so that they could learn a little about the history before the elves’ rule.
