The next morning the travelers began their journey again in earnest. Verethran the monkey, having joined them in Attan just before their voyage, had never ridden with them before. After some discussion, it was decided he would share the packhorse that Selima rode. Since the monkey could handle the reins, Jafar was relieved of the task of leading that horse. Leila found a small linen square and they showed Verethran how to wrap his face for maximum protection against the fierce winds they would fight when their horses moved at magical speed.
