CHAPTER FIVE

I had successfully avoided Daniel for two days but today wasn't my lucky day as he was standing right in front of me and trust me,he wasn't smiling.

'Hi Daniel'.I greeted looking everywhere else but at him and he just gave me the‘are you serious’look

'We need to talk'.

'I know about the kiss I'm sorry I shouldn't have,it was a spur of the moment and I don't want it to destroy the friendship we have manage to establish over the years.Thanks for understanding'.I rushed out before he would say anything I won't be able to handle,and I saw hurt flash through his face but he masked it with a small smile.I was imagining a lot of things lately.

'That was a lot,but okay'.He said

'Isn't that what you were going to say too?'

Of course.

'Thanks.I've to get to class now'

'It's just lunch time.'

Oh I thought I heard the bell.I lied

'You don't have to make things awkward now like you said,it was a spur of the moment'.He was using my words against me…real mature.

Let's go then.I said smiling tightly

DANIEL'S POV

Hearing vee say it was a spur of the moment destabilized my whole train of thought,so this was what heartbreak felt like.Even though I was hurt,I wouldn't let it come between us I've worked so hard to let a kiss spoil everything.

'Hey babe.'Tessa called when she saw me sit.

'Now's not the time'…but I stopped myself.Spur of the moment my foot I was going to proof it wasn't.

'Hey Tessa,how are you?'I smiled and I could see Jason staring at me and I was sure he could tell things didn't go as planned.

'Come and eat I kept some for you'.she went on

Okay.I said sitting beside her as Vee took the empty seat beside Jason.

'Victoria been a while,are you avoiding me?'Gideon asked while Jason kept staring at me as if he was trying to tell me something

'Of course not,just busy with school work'.

'We are seniors but we still create time for friends'.He continued

'I'm sorry'.she said picking on her food slowly.

So you are……what do you think?Tessa asked turned out she had been talking

'Perfect'.I said even though I had absolutely no idea what she was talking about.

'Great'.I'm happy you think the same.what is she even talking about?

'Me too'

Vee was quiet throughout lunch even her new friend Liz noticed because she kept asking what was wrong.

'Let's go babe'.Tessa said all of a sudden

'To where?'I was totally lost now and at that same time vee excused herself from the table.

'I want to tell you something'.

Just tell me here.I wasn't in the mood again

'You agreed.perfect,the one time I did not pay attention'.

'Let's go and make it fast'.

'Sure'

'What did you want to tell me?'I asked as she brought me to a secluded part of the school

'I don't know if you noticed,but I like you…I mean like like you'.

This is not happening right now.I thought

'Uhm…Tessa…how do I go about this'??

'You don't have to say anything now you know'.

OK thanks.I heaved out a sigh in relief

Yea.And all of a sudden,she kissed me and I wanted to push her away but I remembered vee and the ‘Spur of the moment’so I kissed her back even though it was nothing like the one with Vee but it was something.

'What was that for'.I asked

'You kissed me back so answer'.she smiled mischievously before turning back to leave.

Girls…ugh…so confusing sets of humans.I said rolling my eyes

VICTORIA'S POV

He kissed her just two days after our kiss and why do I have to be the one to witness it again?I had gone to clear my head and when Tessa saw me,she kissed him that is after smiling at me and he responded.This time,I couldn't stop the tears coming from my eyes.

Using my handkerchief,I wiped the tears away from my face.Matching back to the table,I took my leftovers and dropped them in the waste bin before heading back to the room I was definitely skipping the rest of the class.I could hear footsteps behind me but I didn't mind as I ran all the way to the room.

'You wanna tell me what's going on with you and my brother suddenly attracted to Tessa'?A frowning Anna asked few minutes after I entered the room.

'Nothing is going on'.I lied

'Don't give me that lie,first you avoid Daniel then now crying coming from the same direction he went with Tessa'.she was getting angry too.

'I'm sorry'.I told her before breaking down

'You're supposed to tell me everything I'm your best friend'.she said hugging me.

'I kissed Daniel and he kissed me back too'.I said finally making her look at me like I lost my mind

'Is it safe to say this is a tears of joy even if I'm not convinced'

'Knowing it wasn't fair to keep secrets from her since she tells me everything'.

I then told her everything that happened with Daniel from that night when I saw him with Tessa.

'Oh my god?she exclaimed-so we guys finally kissed,then he kissed Tessa this is so messed up'.

'I know'

'Wait,did you really say it was a spur of the moment'?she asked

Yes

'How did you know that that was what he was going to say and you like him so it wasn't any Crazy spur of any moment'.

'I didn't,I just assumed'.

'For a girl so bright,you can be dumb.I'm not supposed to tell you this,but my brother likes you a lot and I'm certain he was hurt when you told him everything you told him.No wonder he is suddenly interested in Tessa,he's really hurting'.

'How do you know he likes me'?I asked even though I was jumping with excitement in my head at the revelation

'He's my brother vee and I know everything about him and it's safe to say I'm his best friend even if he walks with those two'.she was referring to Jason and Gideon.

'I really messed up,I just didn't want to be the receiving end'.i told her wiping my tears.

'Well,we'll find a way to fix it.But i'm happy you guys kissed,so how was it'? Trust her to make me laugh

'In one word,I'd say ‘perfect’.

'Details my dear'.she said as we both sat on the bed with our legs crossed-perfect position for gossip.

Over the next few days,Daniel skipped lunch together with Tessa but even if he says he was working on the interschools competition,I wasn't buying it this time and I wouldn't say I wasn't heartbroken as I wanted to apologize and listen to whatever he had in mind.Sometimes,I catch Jason and Gideon looking at me as if they felt pity for me each time I ask after him.

'So vee what are you doing during the competition'?Jason asked me

'I'm not sure,maybe I'll play football'.

'Then we have a chance at winning'.Gideon said winking at me and I blushed at that.

'Thanks'

'I'm running too'.Anna whined when no one asked her even though it was on purpose

'Oh babe we are taking the cup home because of you'.Jason told her.They were so cute,why wasn't my life that easy?

'Seems like you guys are having a lot of fun without me'.Daniel said as he joined us alongside Tessa who was clinging to his arm and I couldn't help but feel jealous:she's beautiful,tall,slim so I'm sure she doesn't have anything to be insecure about.Rumors had it that she is also intelligent and that was how she and Daniel became friends but I never asked.

'Of course,in fact we are going on a double date on Friday'.Jason said when was that decided

'I'm really busy on Friday,can't go'.Daniel said.

'I wasn't talking about you dumbass,I am talking about Gideon and Vee'.

Huh.

'Vee you're going out with Gideon'?He asked looking at me

'Uhm……not…argh'.Anna stepped on my foot under the table before signaling me to say yes.'I mean yes,we just decided few minutes before you came'.I lied

'Perfect'.He said smiling but you could see it didn't reach his eye.

'I know'

'We need to talk…now'.He said

'But I'm eating'.I started,but he gave me a look that made me shut up and follow him……that jerk

You can't go out with him.He said

'Why?you do whatever you want without asking me'

But you don't want to go

How would you know what I want?

'I know you very well pumpkin'…that nickname again

Maybe you don't know me anymore.I told him even if it was true I really didn't want to go out with anyone that wasn't Daniel.

You know that's a lie,but promise me you won't do anything crazy.He said.

You know I don't do crazy things…except when I kissed you.I desperately wanted to add

Thank you.He said and hugged me.I've really missed this.i thought and snuggled closer.

Are you crying.I asked as I saw a lone tears drop from his eyes

No…I am sending my baby girl on a date,what do you expect?he asked and I smiled.

We went back to the rest of our friends and if looks could kill with the way Tessa was glaring at me,I'll be six feet below.

'Did you see the way Daniel was looking at Gideon?'Anna asked excitedly

'I was more concerned with how Tessa was looking at me'.I answered

'Forget about her,she can't do anything'.

Liz who was always a talkative was surprisingly very quiet today.

Are you okay?I asked her

'Yea just tired'.

'Okay'

As we retired to our room after prep that day,I couldn't stop thinking of what Anna said about Daniel liking me and the date with Gideon who I only see as a friend

'I don't want to go out with Gideon'.I voiced out

'You aren't,it's just to make my brother jealous'.

'Oh but it didn't work'.I shrugged

It did,but you won't see it now but trust me in the future you would.And true to her words,Gideon for the first time was absent at lunch which we later found out from Jason that He and Daniel had a little chat

Oh my god,hope he's okay?I asked

'It's nothing he can't survive'.Jason answered and I was tempted to punch Daniel in the face but two things were bound to happen:I disfigure his handsome face or I injure my hand and I can't have any of the two right now.

After that week,almost everything were back to normal.Daniel and I were good and back to the way we used to be the only unhappy people were Tessa and Liz which I found strange.I was not afraid of Tessa in the least as she was all talk and I hoped it remained that way.
