Chapter Twenty Six

The doors swung open and Liam stormed in, his eyes glaring daggers at Jacob who simply leaned against my table, staring back at Liam. I knew if I didn't step in, this would end badly, especially after everything that had happened. “Alright.” I said, getting to my feet. “I'll be outside in a few moments, you've said what you wanted now can you please leave my Consulate?” He turned to me, amused. I raised a brow at him, folding my arms across my chest. He smirked. "I'll be outside Sweetheart." He said, walking closer to me and pressing a kiss on my cheek before heading out, brushing past Liam. Oh that bastard... I packed up my laptop and the files I planned on taking home. “I hate how he waltzes in here as if he owns it.” Liam muttered, walking over to me. “I'll have to have a word with the guards.” I stated. “Their loyalty is to me yet they are scared shitless when it comes to him.” Once I was done, I turned to Liam, kissing his cheek. “I'll talk to you tomorrow, take care of yourself.” I said before walking out of my office and out of the Consulate where Jacob was leaning against his car. He opened the door and stepped aside. I brushed past him ignoring the smirk on his lips as I got in, setting my bags in the backseat. He closed the door and rounded over to the driver's seat. He got in and the car purred to life. “So where are you taking me?” I asked, glancing at him. “It's a surprise.” He replied, smirking at me. I rolled my eyes, folding my arms across my chest, staring out the window at the passing buildings. We drove through the busy city centre and he parked along the side of a particularly busy street. The thought of someone seeing us together and it getting back to my continent sent a wave of panic through me. I bit my lip, staring at the people walking by. I barely noticed him getting out of the car, rounding over and opening my door. “Don't worry pet, anyone who values their lives won't dare utter a vile word against you.” He said, snapping me out of my thoughts. I swallowed hard, staring at his outstretched hand before glaring at him and getting out, ignoring his hand. He chuckled, tossing the valet the key before leading me into the restaurant. A man in a suit approached us, bowing deeply. “Our Esteemed Prime and Luna, welcome to our humble restaurant. We saved you the best table we have to offer, this way please.” We followed him through the restaurant, I could feel eyes on me, some staring in awe while some in veiled anger. I ignored them all as we stopped at a table that was smackdab in the middle of the restaurant. This has to be a joke “This is perfect.” Jacob said, nodding at the man, I scowled at them. The man bowed deeply before leaving. Jacob pulled my seat and I sat before he took his seat. A waiter walked over to us, bowing before handing us each a menu. I looked through it, settling on some braised short ribs and mashed potatoes. The waiter came back with Jacob's choice of wine which he poured into our wine glasses. “Ready to order?” Jacob asked. “Yes, I'll have the braised short ribs and mashed potatoes.” I answered, giving the waiter the menu. Jacob also ordered and the waiter left to inform the kitchen. I raised my glass to my lips, taking a sip of the wine. “I hope the wine is to your liking?” I lifted a shoulder. “It's not bad.” An elderly couple approached us, the man bowing to Jacob. “Prime.” He greeted. “Joseph, Becky” He acknowledged. “We apologise for intruding in your lovely dinner with the Luna Prime but we just wanted to say hello and to finally meet our beautiful Luna.” “No need for the apologies.” He said, placing a hand on mine which made me stiffen. “Adelaide, this is Joseph, one of the directors of Mont Blanc Oil, he currently heads one of our refineries and this is his mate, Becky.” I forced a smile as they bowed to me. “It's a pleasure to meet you.” Joseph said. “Permit me to say but you are even more beautiful in person. You and Prime Jacob certainly make a picture perfect couple.” Becky gushed. Ugh, can you not? I forced a smile though I was sure it looked more like a grimace. “What can I say, Eda blessed me with an incredibly beautiful and intelligent mate.” Jacob said. Oh Eda, Where's that waiter when you need him?! Almost as if Eda heard me, the waiter came back with our food. “Well, we best get going, enjoy your dinner Prime, Luna.” I watched them leave, as the waiters set our plates in front of us. I took a bite, the meat melting on my tongue, I paired it with the mashed potatoes, it was good but it had a faint wierd aftertaste. Probably the seasoning... “So, Mont Blanc Oil huh?” I inquired. “Mineral oils and fuels are our main exports, just like how iron ore is yours.” He explained, taking a bite of his salmon. “How is the business side of things going?” He inquired, I frowned. “Why the sudden interest in my business?” “Well, you are my mate and Luna so it's only right I see your business and continent prosper.” He answered. I sneered at him, fixing a fake smile. “And yet you went ahead to destabilise my continent. You killed the Alpha Prime, threw the continent into disarray, do you have any idea how long it took for Europe to get back on its feet?” Something flickered in his eyes. “Adelaide…” “Don't you ever ask me about my continent because I know you don't give a flying fuck.” The rest of the dinner was quiet, except for the quiet clattering of utensils. “Prime, Luna, I trust you are enjoying your dinner.” The owner asked, stopping by our table. “Yes, the food is excellent as usual.” Jacob replied. The owner beamed and turned to me. I dabbed the corners of my mouth with the napkin, smiling up at the man. “I've never had short ribs this good before and the mashed potatoes were amazing.” I replied, watching as he almost swooned. “Thank you Luna. Thank you Prime.” He bowed, moving onto the next table. I sipped my wine, looking around as Jacob finished up his meal. Once he was done, he paid and we made our way out of the restaurant. “Uh, Alpha Prime?” A man approached us. “Yes, can I help you?” Jacob inquired. “Yes Prime, I just need a minute of your time.” He replied. Jacob glanced at me. "Do you mind?" I shrugged "Take your time." I replied, making my way out of the restaurant letting him have his conversation with the man in private. I stood in front of the restaurant, pulling out my phone and scrolling through my messages. A sigh escaped my lips and I rubbed my neck, rolling my shoulders back. I was exhausted and the night was terribly hot. I got a scrunchie from my bag and tied my hair up and away from my neck but it did nothing to ease the sweltering heat I felt. I decided to shrug off my jacket, undoing a few buttons on my shirt. “f**k, why is it so hot and why am I suddenly so thirsty?” I groaned. Why is he taking so long?! By this time, my shirt was completely drenched and I badly needed to cool off, even the beast within me was agitated. I undid the rest of the buttons, about to take the shirt off. “Sorry it took so… what are you doing?” I spun around to see Jacob, his eyes moving to my open shirt, my bra on full display. “It's so fuckin’ hot” I slurred, stumbling over to him, struggling to take the shirt off. His hands reached over, stopping me. I fought against him. “No… let me go.” I grumbled. “Adelaide, hey…” I ignored me, deciding the trousers needed to go too. Once I got everything off I was sure the heat would go away. “No Adelaide, no” His hand clamped over mine and I growled at him, baring my fangs. “Look at me.” He ordered, grabbing my chin, forcing me to stay still. “Fuck.” JACOB I had half a mind to burn down everything within a 5 mile radius but first I needed to deal with the drugged woman in front of me then I needed to find the fucker who dared to slip Melconite into my Luna. Tony He answered the mindlink immediately Yes Prime. I need anti melconite right now, the Luna Prime has been poisoned. I instructed. I'll send someone with it right away. I made my way back into the restaurant, the owner upon seeing me, came running. “My Prime, is an..” “Lock up the restaurant, no one comes in and no one leaves” I ordered, brushing past him and into the kitchens, Adelaide still squirming in my arms. “So hot!” She moaned, tugging at her shirt. “Don't worry, I'll make it all better.” I whispered, she looked up at me, eyes dilated, lips dried and chapped. I could see her fangs were also making an appearance. Whoever had slipped it into her wanted to humiliate her, that was certain. Even if the newspaper houses didn't run with the story of Adelaide Silverstone stripping to her skin in the middle of a busy street, I was certain the tabloids would and I didn't need that s**t on my plate. “I want all your ice in that vat.” I ordered, barging into the kitchen. The workers stood frozen in their shoes. “NOW!” I barked, watching as they scrambled to do as I ordered. “Prime? Is anything the matter? Please tell me how I can be of help?” The owner asked. I ignored him, walking over to the vat, knowing my next course of action would unleash a very pissed off lycan. “All of you, stay back” I instructed, looking down at Adelaide whose eyes had a red rim around her irises, her hair plastered to her face due to the sweat. Her body temperature was rising and I knew if I didn't do anything to lower it, she would overheat and slip into a coma which would eventually lead to her dying and I was not about to let that happen, so I did the only thing possible, I dumped her into the vat of ice cold water. An inhumane wail escaped her lips causing the workers to duck for cover as plates and glassware exploded around us. I grit my teeth, forcing her to stay in the water while she thrashes about, growls and wails erupting from her. I knew the water felt like fire against her skin but that was the only way to help her before the antidote could be brought to the restaurant. Her struggles slowed as the ice did its job. “Shhh… that's it.” I whispered into her hair. Prime, I'm outside with the antidote. Good, come in. “Clear this crap” I ordered, watching as the workers pushed the broken plates and glassware to the ground, I gently laid her on the table, watching as her head lolled to the side. I brushed the hair away from her face. In this light, she looked calm, almost gentle except I knew she was a viper waiting to strike at the slightest opportunity. The doors opened and the man Tony sent in walked in. “Prime” He greeted, handing me the brown paperback. I took it, bringing out a small vial with a clear liquid. I broke the tip and used the hypodermic needle to extract the liquid. I opened up her coat, about to roll her shirt up when I paused. My eyes snapped up to everyone in the room, my glare enough to have them avert their eyes. I turned my attention back to her, rolling up her shirt before administering the cure. She let out a moan, jerking a bit as she did. The antidote would bring down her body temperature while eliminating all traces of the drug. Once I was certain she was going to be fine, I turned to the workers that were all huddled together. “Bring me my Luna's dinner plate.” I ordered. A waiter walked over, holding the plate with the half eaten meal. I took the plate, bringing it to my nose. The subtle smell of Melconite hit my nose. I set the plate down, looking at them. “I'll ask this only once. Who drugged the Luna Prime?” I was met with silence. The staff glanced at each other as they shifted uneasily. “Alpha Prime, I'm sure there must be some mis…” I held up a hand, silencing him. “Very well.” I pointed at one of the staff, a freckled young man. “You, over here.” His eyes went wide as he approached me, his heart beating wildly. “S-sir?” He stuttered. I pushed the plate in his direction. “Eat up.” “W-what… b-but, it's p-poisoned” He whispered, glancing in the direction of the rest of the staff. “Eat. Up.” I ordered. He took a spoonful, his hands trembling as he did, he glanced at the staff once more before closing his eyes. “Wait!!! It was me!!! I poisoned her” A woman cried out, coming forward. “Mum?” He whispered in shock as she fell to her knees. “Forgive me Prime b-but I just couldn't get over the fact that she disrespected you that way… on live tv. She had to pay for her crime.” “And who made you judge, jury and executioner?” I snarled. She closed her eyes, clasping her hands together. “Please Prime, I didn't mean for it to end like this, it was just to humiliate her, I didn't think she would react so violently to the drug.” She pleaded. “The punishment for possessing Melconite is 15 years in prison, let's not forget who you attempted to kill. My Luna Prime, the European Alpha Prime, that in itself is a treasonable offence, I could have you hanged for that.” She sobbed, grabbing at my trousers, I resisted the urge to shove her urge, the beast in me demanding blood as the only recompense. “Cuff her up and take her away. She will face the full wrath of the law, this will serve as a lesson to anyone else who dares to cross my Luna and I.” I instructed the warrior, ignoring her tears and pleadings. I scooped Adelaide up as she began to stir and headed out of the restaurant. The valet opening the car door, I placed her in, securing her with the seatbelt. Gently closing the door, I rounded the car and got in, glancing at her, she was still unconscious. I reached over, placing my thumb against her pulse point. Strong and steady. The car purred to life and I drove us back to Yellowstone. I stopped in front of a red light, glancing at her. She shifted a bit, a whimper escaped her lips. This was the second time we were in the same place and there were no death threats. And both times she had to be unconscious for that to happen. A chuckle escaped my lips at that thought. The rest of the drive was quiet and I was left to my thoughts. Glancing at her once more, it felt unreal that she was here, alive with me, though I knew her every waking thought centred around plotting my demise. We got back to Yellowstone and I parked in front of my cottage. Getting out of the car, I walked over to the front passenger seat, opening it. She stirred a bit. “Uh… my head” She mumbled, reaching up to touch her head. “And why am I wet?” I stifled a chuckle at the confused look on her face as she tried to make sense of what had happened. I tried to brush a lock of hair away from her face only for her to smack my hand away. There's my fiery mate “What happened?” She groaned. I debated on telling her or letting her find out on her own. Might as well rip the bandaid “You were poisoned.” ADELAIDE Shock wiped whatever confusion was within me. My eyes snapped open and I stared up at him. “What?!” “Someone slipped a drug into your meal, Melconite which caused your body temperature to rise, it could have killed you but I caught it in time.” “Melconite? What's that?” I asked, wondering how I had been unable to sense it. “It's an illegal drug, something I’ve been trying to get rid of from my continent.” He explained. I fumbled with the seatbelt wanting it off. My coordination was all off and it annoyed me to no end. “Get this f*****g thing off me” I growled, tugging on the belt. I felt him reach over and undo the belt. I stumbled out of the car, barely catching myself from planting face first on the pavement. “Where do you think you're going?” I ignored him, stumbling up the steps into the cottage, the ground looked uneven and I had to blink several times just so the room would stop spinning. I snatched my elbow from his grip, staggering away from him towards the stairs. “God damn it Adelaide, you can barely walk. Stop being so f*****g stubborn!!” He snapped, the anger exploded within me and I spun around, pointing my finger at him. “And whose fault is that?! I didn't want to go to that stupid dinner and you forced me to go and look what f*****g happened!!” I shouted. “Prime? Luna?” I glanced over to see Tony walking into the foyer. I ignored him and continued on my way to the stairs. Only for my world to turn upside, an indignant cry left my lips as Jacob threw me over his shoulder. “What the hell do you think you are doing? Put me down at once!!” I demanded, hitting his back with my fists. He tightened his grip around my thighs, ignoring me. “I'll be down in a few minutes.” He told Tony before heading to the stairs. “Oh I hate you so much Jacob! Put me down! You can't treat me like a… like a sack of potatoes!!!” “I'm sure a sack of potatoes won't give me the same hassle you are. Now stay still or a headache won't be the only thing you wake up with tomorrow.” He warned, his thumb brushing against the swell of my butt. My eyes widened at the implication of his words. “You pervert!!!! Ugh you are disgusting. I swear to Eda if you touch me I will..” Smack!!! The sound echoed around us, my mouth fell open. “Settle down” He grumbled, opening the door to my room. He plopped me on the bed, walking over to the centre table to get a bottle of water which he placed on the bedside locker. “I'll be working overnight in my office if you need anything.” He instructed, my lips were still parted in shock, reeling from the fact that he actually spanked me… Me… Adelaide Silverstone The freaking European Alpha Prime. Shock gave way to anger and my heels met the door just as he closed it. THAT BASTARD!!!! **************** ***************** ************** THE NEXT DAY I woke up feeling a slight headache, I groaned into the pillow, wishing the headache could magically teleport to Jacob. As much as staying in bed and plotting that monster's demise sounded like a good idea, I still had missing people's cases to solve. I got out of bed, glancing at the time, it was still too early which explained why Delilah wasn't here yet. I headed to the bathroom and had a quick shower, debating on whether to head into the office or not. My mind drifted to last night and the fact that I had been poisoned. What did he say it was called? Melconite… It was an illegal drug he was trying to get off his continent. I got out of the shower, wrapping a towel around my form. If he was battling a Melconite epidemic, then it would be safe to ask if there was such a drug in my continent. Looks like I do have to go in then. I headed back into my room and got dressed. I looked around for my bags when I found them beside my bed. I gathered them, placed them on a chair before opening the door, I desperately needed caffeine in me. I stepped out of my room, almost bumping into a barely dressed Olivia. I raised a brow at her rumpled state, my eyes zeroing in on the shirt she was wearing over her naked body. "Oh I am so sorry!!!" She giggled "Jake assured me you weren't here. If I had known, I would have waited but then again, you know how insatiable Jacob can be..." She trailed off, looking me over before tilting her head to the side and pursing her lips. "Or maybe you don't." This little bitch I stamped down the urge to rip her hair clean off her scalp instead settled for a look of indifference. "Are you done?" I asked, taking a step closer to her. She frowned, clearly not expecting my reaction. I stopped in front of her, lifting a loc of her hair and twirling it between my fingers. Her eyes darted from her hair to my fingers. "You see Olivia, pathetic she wolves like you don't phase me. Always chasing after the male wolves, at their beck and call, they say jump, you jump, they say spread your legs, you don't even hesitate. You have relegated yourself to being a bed warmer and it's so laughable that you think that's a good thing." Her eyes darkened, she parted her lips but I tightened my grip on her hair making her wince. "And that's all you'll ever be, you can f**k him all you want but I will always be the one on his arm." She struggled against my grip. "And this ring?" I said, holding up my finger making sure she could see the Luna Prime ring. "It will never be on your finger." I shoved her aside, she snarled at me. "I was meant to be Luna Prime but you just had to show up!!!" She growled. "You stole that position from me. You don't deserve to be his Luna after disrespecting him on live tv!!! Only I am worthy of that title.” "Grow the f**k up Olivia." I replied. “The world doesn't revolve around you.” "You have no idea who you are dealing with. There's more than one way to become a Luna Prime." She replied, a smug smile on her lips, caressing her stomach. This conniving little tart I reigned in my beast from splattering her blood on the wall behind her, deciding to laugh instead. “I knew you were stupid but I didn't think you were idiotic. You're so power hungry you actually are willing to carry Jacob's child." She tilted her chin forward. "As long as it gets me what I want." I shook my head at her. "You really don't know anything about the nature of lycans. You can become his breeding mare if you want, but that's all you'll ever be. You'll never be Luna Prime, your children will never take over the pack." I leaned closer to her ear, enjoying how pale she had become. "You wanna know why?" She was silent. "Because the child of a mere werewolf and an Alpha Prime is NOTHING compared to the offspring of two powerful Alpha Primes.” I leaned back, watching as she sagged against the wall, her frantic, desperate eyes moved to mine. "Y-you're lying, Jacob won't do that to me." "He's a lycan, it's encoded in his DNA." Tears brimmed in her eyes and she looked away, I almost felt bad for her... almost. I turned to leave before stopping. "Oh and Olivia?" She looked at me. "Next time you want to make it seem as if Jacob slept with you, at least make sure he actually came to bed last night." I didn't bother waiting for her reply before leaving. I had better things to deal with... in the shape of Jacob f*****g Mont Blanc. The guards looked up as I approached the door to his office, they glanced at each other before moving aside. I pushed the doors open and stormed in. The outer office was empty so I continued to the inner office where he was working on something with Tony. They looked up at me as I practically shoved the doors open. Jacob's dark eyes on me. "Tony, I would like to have a word with your Alpha Prime in private please." Tony nodded, packed up his papers and brushed past me, closing the door behind him. "I'll say this and I will only say it once. If you plan on taking any mistresses, then there's going to be a shortage of unmated she-wolves in your continent." I stated. He raised a brow, the edge of his lips tugged to the side. "Jealousy is such a delectable look on you Adelaide." He said getting to his feet and approaching me. I stood my ground, he stopped before me. "Don't worry pet, I have no need for another she wolf." He replied, his eyes raking over me, "Eda knows you're more than enough." The blazing lust and hunger palpable in his voice and eyes which had turned into a deep maroon colour. I let out a scoff, ignoring how his gaze made my skin sing. "I don't need your words, as long as you keep me trapped in this relationship then you're going to be as miserable as I." I snapped turning to leave when he spun me around, caging me against the door. My eyes widened at the close proximity between us. "What do you think you're doing?!" I squaked. He tilted his head to the side, his eyes still a deep maroon colour, it was really unnerving how his eyes could go from black to different shades of red. "Are you really miserable, pet?" I frowned, thrown off by the question. "What do you think?" "I think..." He tucked an errant hair behind my ear and I shivered as his tongue darted out across his tongue. His glowing eyes peering into my very soul, I could feel the exhaustion and anger ebb away leaving me feeling boneless, almost like I was floating away. "That you are tired and you don't want to be miserable anymore." He whispered, brushing his lips against my cheek. I let out a whimper, my eyes fluttering close. "Jacob..." I whispered. "Yes pet," He replied. I swallowed hard, revelling in the sensations he was evoking in me. "Tell me what you need" I slipped my fingers into his hair, and tugged a fistful as hard as I could, exposing his throat. "Use your powers on me again and I will f*****g slice your throat open." I snarled, twirling the letter opener knife I had swiped from the conference table. He smirked and I let him go, watching as he took a step back. "That should answer your demands, pet." He leaned against his table and folded his arms across his impressive chest. "How could I ever want someone else when I have you to keep me on my toes?" I ignored him and walked out of his inner office just as my phone rang. “Adelaide Silverstone speaking, who is this?” I answered, brushing past Tony and out of the conference room. “Hello Adelaide, this is Adlartok, I got your number from Magnus.” He explained. “My head of security will be at your Consulate to further discuss our plan.” I smiled. “Excellent, I'll be on my way.”
