Chapter 2 Grumpy Billy

758 Words
"Filthy, stupid, and greedy... That's what they say about my new stepmother. I never imagined it would be you! My fiancée! My love! My Eliza!" In the dimly lit room, panic seized me as Leon lowered his head, moving closer. I was cornered against the mirror, with nowhere to escape. "It's not what you think..." But Leon wasn't listening! I collapsed into a chair, and he knelt on the armrest, gripping my arm and pinning my trembling body down. His other hand clutched my chin, forcing me to look into his eyes. "You abandoned me and are marrying a man old enough to be your grandfather for money! And this is not what I think it is?" His blue eyes were filled with contempt, and his deep voice echoed in my ears. The humiliation washed over me like a tidal wave. "Who are you to humiliate me?" I snapped back, my embarrassment turning to anger. "How much better are you? You're a liar who hid his identity! A coward!" If it weren't for Bob collapsing right before the wedding, and the butler calling back all his sons... I might never have known that the poor boy I'd been dating for two years was actually the son of a mafia boss! The more I thought about it, the angrier I got. I pushed against Leon with all my strength, but he only held me tighter. "I didn't mean to deceive you. I rejected my identity because I hate everything about this place!" Leon looked at me with pain in his eyes. "If it weren't for my father's critical condition, I wouldn't have come back!" "Then leave! Leave now! Besides your father's money, I can't think of any other reason you'd stay in this place you claim to hate so much!" I struggled in his arms, shouting. "A reason? Fine! If you need a reason, I'll give you one!" "Leon! You... mmph..." Before I could react, Leon cupped my face and kissed me hard! I fought back with all my might, but I couldn't stop Leon's forceful invasion of my mouth, making my tongue dance with his. Blood trickled from our lips. I must have bitten his tongue, but he seemed unfazed by the pain. We only broke apart when we were both on the brink of suffocation. "Are you crazy? I'm your stepmother! You lying, cheating jerk! Now you've added seducing your stepmother to your list of sins!" I gasped for breath, angrily reprimanding him. Leon, whom I had pushed away, spat out blood and then laughed when he heard me say "stepmother." "Seducing my stepmother?! Hahaha... What if I want to do something even worse to my stepmother?!" As Leon closed in on me again, I instinctively curled up, crossing my arms over my chest to cover the parts exposed by my wedding dress. Leon was insane! I was really afraid of what he might do next... However, the next second, a gunshot stopped him! The locked door was kicked open from the outside. Leon and I turned simultaneously to see a young man with short brown hair burst in. He bore a resemblance to Leon, sharing the same handsome, chiseled features. But his eyes were a deep, angry brown, filled with murderous intent. Behind him was Emma, frantically signaling to me. I suddenly realized who he was. This must be Billy Wald, another of Bob Wald's sons. The furious Billy strode towards me, brandishing a gun. "You b***h! My father died because he was marrying you! You'll join him in death!" "No!" The sound of the gun c*****g was drowned out by Leon's roar. Strangely, at that moment, I felt no fear—only relief. I closed my eyes. ***** Yet the anticipated pain never came. I heard a gunshot, followed by the shattering of glass, and felt something drape over my head. I opened my eyes to see shards of glass everywhere. The room's crystal chandelier had fallen. Billy lay on the ground, shot, and Leon held his gun. Glass had cut Leon's face, blood trickling down like petals across his handsome features. The blood from our kiss was now unnoticeable. Emma stood shaking with fear. I still didn't feel scared. I pulled the familiar-smelling cloth off my head, staring blankly at Leon. Had he protected me? "Emma, take Billy to a doctor, and have someone keep an eye on him. Keep him..." Leon paused, looking at me deeply, the pain in his blue eyes wrenching my heart. "Keep him away from my father's new wife."
