Arthur took the initiative to call Emma in front of Aria and said coldly through the phone, "Emma, are you available? If you are, let's go to the Civil Affairs Bureau to complete the divorce procedure."
Lying on the bed, Emma sobbed in pain. Her face was deathly pale, and she broke out in a cold sweat as she held on to her phone with much difficulty. Suffering quietly from the intense pain in her body, she could not utter a single word because of her tears, and his words worsened her pain.
"Are you listening?" Arthur thought that Emma deliberately remained silent, so his tone became harsher. "Emma, our relationship has come to an end, and I will not hesitate this time. We are getting the divorce sooner or later, so we might as well do it right now instead."
Emma's voice was hoarse and weak. "Arthur, can't you wait?"
"Why are you pretending to be sick? Emma, stop being b*tchy as it will only make me hate you more," Arthur commented sarcastically.
"Have you ever loved me in the past five years?" Emma curled up her body. At her most vulnerable moment, the person she wanted to see the most was Arthur, yet the first thing he said was his intention to get a divorce with her, using this method to end things with her.
"No, never. Please come to your senses!" Arthur replied without hesitation. He should not feel pity for Emma, or else he couldn't cut off all ties with her.
Feeling hopeless, Emma said calmly, "Okay, I'll wait for you at the Civil Affairs Bureau tomorrow."
Upon finishing the sentence, her phone fell to the ground, and she lost consciousness because of both the extreme pain and Arthur's heartless words.
When she regained consciousness again, Emma saw herself having a drip. Her body was weak and light, which made her feel like she was dying.
Sitting next to her, Grace's eyes were red from crying. Emma tried to reach out to wipe Grace's tears, but her hand was caught by Grace. Grace cried, "Emma, why didn't you tell me you were not feeling well? Why did this suddenly happen? I thought the doctors were all lying to me. Emma, are they lying to me? You are in good health, aren't you? How is it possible that you have gastric cancer?"
Emma and Grace had been good friends for many years, and they were as close as sisters. Since Grace was pregnant, Emma was afraid that Grace would worry too much. Therefore, Emma wanted to hide her health conditions from Grace, but Grace still knew the truth.
"Arthur will definitely regret divorcing you if he knows this!" Grace insisted.
Emma stayed calm in the face of pain from her cancer. Her life was too short, and she no longer feared having lived a life that she didn't want at her prime age.
She was too tired, spending her entire life loving Arthur. Perhaps death could free her from continuing her love for him.
"Don't tell him. I hope he will treat me as if I had never existed."
Emma smiled bitterly. Her face was as pale as a sheet. There would not be any interactions between them after the divorce. By then, Arthur would not even know that she was dead.
Grace burst into tears. "You fool, are you satisfied to die knowing this outcome?"
"Grace, you will never understand my feelings. You and Brandon love each other, but Arthur loves someone else. I have been in love with him for 13 years, and that was enough. I am not as strong as you thought, so please don't tell him. I don't want to have anything to do with him anymore. I am tired, and I don't want to be sad because of him anymore."
Emma was 26 years old, and she had spent 13 years of her life on Arthur. In fact, her life had been too ordinary as she had rejected other men for Arthur. She understood only bitter love, so she wished to have mutual love.
"I don't have any chance. I want to find a man who loves me in my next life."
Emma lowered her eyes but she suddenly remembered something and asked, "How long have I slept?"
"You've been sleeping since yesterday. If I hadn't gone to look for you, no one would have found you fainting at home."
Emma promised to get a divorce with Arthur that day. Noticing that she was going to be late, Emma got up in a hurry and pulled out the drip.
Seeing that she was agitated, Grace quickly pulled Emma back and asked, "What are you doing?"
"Arthur and I agreed to meet up at the Civil Affairs Bureau today. I have to see him!"
