Grace felt exasperated at Emma. "Emma, are you stupid? He wanted a divorce, yet you're still proactive with this. You haven't even finished the drip. What if something happens to you on your way there?"
Emma smiled, thinking there was no difference being stupid again this time. "It's alright. Please let me go. I don't want him to think that I couldn't keep a promise."
Emma's pleading eyes softened Grace's anger. Grace couldn't interfere with their relationship, so she could only say angrily, "Even if you are so considerate for him, he won't be grateful at all."
Emma was still half an hour late when she arrived. Arthur was waiting impatiently at the entrance. He thought Emma was playing tricks with him, so he was very dissatisfied. When Emma arrived, he frowned and said coldly, "You're late. I thought you stood me up again today!"
"Let's go in."
Although there was not much change on Emma's face, the atmosphere of the Civil Affairs Bureau made her feel depressed, as if a knife had stabbed into her heart. She didn't know what hurt more, the heart or the stomach.
Both of them sat silently without any interaction. The officer who handled the divorce procedure told them to think it through before getting the divorce paper, but Arthur directly replied, "No, it's not necessary. We've already thought it through."
Emma was in a state of despair and she hesitated when both of them were asked to sign their names on the paper. However, in the blink of an eye, she saw Arthur sign his name without hesitation.
Holding the pen tightly, Emma's tears fell down on the paper. "Can't it wait any longer? Why do we need to divorce now?" Emma asked herself repeatedly. She struggled to put down her name and was reluctant to hand over the paper to the person in charge.
When the seal was placed on the divorce paper, all ties between them were finally broken, so was in Emma's heart, a burning stamp branded her heart.
Holding the divorce paper, Emma was speechless while she wiped away the tears.
"Arthur, don't you know that I can't bear to divorce you, just like how I had never given up on you for the last thirteen years," Emma thought.
Arthur left right away without looking at Emma's face at all, so he did not notice that something was amiss with her. Emma looked at Arthur's back tearfully. This was probably the last time she would be seeing him and he still gave her a view of his back.
With a pale look on her face, Emma walked out of the Civil Affairs Bureau slowly. It was a sunny day but Emma felt very cold. She did not know if it was because of her illness or because of her reluctance to divorce as she felt like dying.
Dragging her tired body, Emma lifted her eyes to see Aria in Arthur's car. Both Aria and Arthur looked like an ideal couple together. Emma bit her lips while she stared at them. A mouthful of blood gushed out of her stomach. Emma covered her mouth as blood trickled from between her fingers.
Arthur happened to look her way and saw that Emma used a paper towel to cover her mouth. Turning away, she left the Civil Affairs Bureau under Arthur's gaze.
Four months later.
"Do you know that Arthur is going to marry Aria, Emma?"
It had been four months since Emma last saw Arthur. Four months was neither short nor long, but she still suffered the agony during this period.
She felt numb and hid her love in the depth of her heart without baring it out for others to see nor being immersed in sadness.
Grace had just given birth to a baby. She was a lovely girl who looked like Grace. When she smiled, she smiled cheerfully. Emma liked to tease Grace's child to forget about Arthur.
She no longer cared if they were married as she was but a stranger to Arthur.
"This child is so cute. I really hope that I can have a cute baby."
Emma stroked her six-month-old belly. She was less immature now and had the glory of motherhood.
Grace was very anxious. Looking at Emma and the child in her belly, she was very worried. "Did you hear what I said? Arthur and Aria are getting married!"
With her eyelashes fluttering, Emma clenched her fists and said, "If they want to get married, they can do it. What does it have to do with me?"
"Are you really willing to let them get married while you will be giving birth to the child at the cost of your own life?" As Grace said this, her eyes turned red again. She really wanted to tell Arthur to his face that Emma was the woman who sacrificed the most for him and that the person he treated the worst in his life was Emma. However, Emma forbade her to do so, and as her friend, she could do nothing but worry about Emma.
"Grace, please don't mention Arthur in front of me."
When she raised her head, Emma's eyes were red. She could not stand this kind of torture, as if she had given her own rib to someone else. However, there was no point forcing her feelings onto Arthur. Even if she told Arthur the truth, he would only think that she was hypocritical. It was better not to suffer again.
"I've already told you that Arthur doesn't believe me. He even thought that I was lying to him. Even if you all have told him that I've died once for him, he would think that it was Aria. I don't want to suffer anymore because I really can't stand this torture." Emma covered her mouth and sobbed again. Since it was hard for her, she should not have relived her pain again.
Grace stopped commenting. "I won't mention this again. Please don't cry. If anything happens to you, I will never forgive Arthur for the rest of my life."
"Thank you."
Emma wiped away her tears. It was sufficient for her to have her child with her. She no longer expected anything else as long as her child was safe and healthy.
