Chapter 4

Rosa felt her heart leap in her throat as she watched as the bear of a man in front of her moved aside to reveal another. The sight of him made her throat dry up. He had a thin stubble on his jaw and was dressed in all black, with the top two buttons of his shirt left open. His sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, and his piercing blue eyes stared at her as his jet-black hair fell in his face. "Hello princessa". He said to her as she watched as he lowered himself to the bed. For a moment, her face turned towards the other man as her breathing picked up. "Giovanni, you can go." He said. She watched as the man, like a dog, had been given a command. He lowered his head and exited the room. She watched as the man before her kept His eyes trained on her, and she cursed herself for going to bed in her pajama shorts and top. "What, so you have nothing witty to say, or do you reserve that for my men?" He said to her with a raised eyebrow. That was enough to suddenly snap her back to her senses. This man was a monster, and he had taken her family from her. She should have been drooling at the sight of him, but she was torn between cowering in fear at the sight of him or jumping his bones. "You are a monster." She found herself saying it eventually when she struggled to get her voice back. She watched as he let out a sigh from his lips as he ran a finger over her left foot. "Well, if I am a monster, at least I am a pretty one, right?" He said to her with a wink as he stood up to his feet. She looked at him in confusion at first, not understanding what he was talking about. "What is wrong with you?". She found herself asking him in a shaky tone. She watched as he let out a sigh from his lips. "Well, your father was my problem at first, but we both know how that went down. It was easy to take care of him, but now my problem seems to be you." He said to her. She watched as he leaned in closer to her. "You had my father killed. Why would you do that? My father was a good man; he did nothing wrong, she said to him, and she watched as he paused, staring at her with a raised eyebrow as though asking if she was serious. "Oh, princess, you must be more naive and foolish than I thought. Your father was the second-in-command of the second-largest mafia in the world. He had killed almost as many people as I have. He was no innocent man." He said to her, and she felt her heart drop at his words. She shook her head at him. She knew it couldn't be true. Her father wasn't a killer. He was absent from her life, but he made an effort, and when he did, he was good to her. He would take her out when he had the chance to do so, and he treated her as though she were a queen. "No, I refuse to believe you. You are wrong. My father wasn't a monster. You are," she said to him in retort. "Oh, really, then how about you tell him how and where he died?" he asked her. "He was at a charity event, and there was a bomb. It was killed by terrorists, nothing more." Sue said to him in a monotone voice. They were the same words that had been repeated to her, and they were to be engraved in her mind forever. "That was not a charity event; it was an auction for women, mainly but sometimes children. That bomb that killed our fathers as well as many of my brothers was set by the don of the Mexican cartel, and that happens to be your father's boss' '. He said to her in a matter-of-fact tone. Her ears were ringing, but his words, but she still wouldn't believe that it was the truth. Her father couldn't. He wouldn't. "Then what am I doing here?" She asked him, and she watched as he let out a sigh from his lips. "Your father was supposed to be our inside mole. Our trader. He would tell us everything and report back. But he went off our radar last week, and he should have known about the bombing but didn't tell us. And now my sister is missing. So I guess we are going to trade. I take you, the next underboss of the Mexican cartel, and we can trade you to get my sister back."He said to her, and it was as though he was talking about his day or the weather. It was clear that human life didn't mean anything to him. She feared discovering what would happen to her if they didn't find his sister. "And what if they don't end up returning your sister to you?" She asked him, and she watched as he leaned in and brushed away a strand of hair from her face. "You don't want to know that. Now I am going to let you go. And you should know that I have an all-around perimeter. If you try to step outside, someone will shoot you, and you will not die, but you will be injured enough for me to still be able to torture you slowly and painfully." He said to her. "So what is going to happen is that you are going to go get cleaned up and wear the outfit on the bed, and you will come to meet me in my office." He said to her. She remained quiet as she stared at him blankly. "Si?" He asked her, and she found herself nodding her head at him slowly. The only thing she wanted was to get on his bad side. She watched as he pulled away from her, and made his way to the door. "Be good and don't do anything stupid. The second door on the right is my office." And with that, he was gone. She felt she could breathe again and she felt her muscles relax as she realized that she hadn't even noticed when he had loosened her restraints. She stumbled towards the bathroom as she freshened up and came back to the room to find a short black dress. She was quick to slip it on, begrudgingly, before making her way out of the room and following his instructions. She knocked once on the door before he told her to step in, and she found his face trailing over her. She gulped, raking in the sight of the polished wood office with the leather seats. She didn't understand why she had been forced to wear the outfit. "Why do I have to wear this? she asked him, feeling slightly uncomfortable. He gestured for her to take a seat, which she did as she watched him smile. "Well, it is. That is because while you stay here, you will have to earn your keep, and so you will be working as a housekeeper." He said as his words echoed through the room.
