I walked toward the house in a daze. My nose was following that scent, the one I was desperate to comprehend.
"Come on, Nikolai, the house is clean. You can see that from here. Let's get going."
"I just need to check the house. You know that, Mikołaj." My voice sounded robotic to my own ears, but I couldn't help it. "It's scheduled to be rented out this week, so I have to make sure it's rental ready."
"Come on, with that cleaning crew of yours. They wouldn't miss anything, not even a speck of dirt half the size of a flea. They're precise, man. Come on, Nikolai, let's go."
"It's protocol. And do you want to be the one to tell my dad that we broke the rules?"
