Saphira burst through the front door of the Louis house, her eyes gleaming with excitement rather than the usual bored disdain. She found Naomi in the living room, staring blankly at a financial report, a glass of wine untouched beside her.
“Mother, you will not believe what I just saw!” Saphira announced, throwing her purse onto the sofa.
Naomi looked up, her expression weary. “What now, Saphira? Did Lyra buy a more expensive handbag than yours? I don’t have the energy for pettiness today.”
“This isn’t petty, it’s perfect,” Saphira said, perching on the arm of a chair. “I followed Lyra. She had a secret meeting. With Axel Lax.”
