*The dinner*
All attention snapped to the doorway as Lyra and Xami appeared. They looked like a team, standing together. Lyra’s calm face was a stark contrast to Naomi’s twisted rage. Xami’s presence was a silent wall of support.
Leonor Louis broke the awful silence, his voice strained. “Is… is everyone here now? Are we complete?”
Julian Lax gave a tight nod. “Our daughter and her husband are on their way. They should be—”
The roar of a car engine, loud and aggressive, cut him off. Everyone flinched. Through the large window, they saw a sleek silver sedan swerve recklessly up the long driveway, screeching to a halt just outside.
Naomi, who had been seething in her seat, let out a sharp gasp and jumped up, running to the window. “What is this? More drama?”
