Chapter 4: Where heavens meets hell

I adjusted the stripes of my bag on my shoulders.

“Mr Brown please we have no other choice “ Kira continued to plead but he didn't even flinch.

“ We will pay a large amount of money,”she continued.

“No” he said

“ Am busy” he said with his eyes on the screen.

I turned towards the door , ready to exist. I was done with this.

“ You say deadline is 14 th”

We stopped walking any further. Kira spun around instantly

“Yes”

He leaned back on his chair . exhaling slowly.

“...sir”

I hesitated.

“ I have twenty five minutes only,” he added, checking his expensive watch .

We sat quickly.

He pulled the laptop closer , eyes scanning my work.

“You started late….but you will still finish” . He rolled his shirt sleeves , his veins popping out like they wanted to tear the skin.

Ooh God there are so many veins in one arm.

Kira leaned on the desk

“ Mr Brown, Lina is a genius but also disaster.she forgot assignment completely.

“Kira,” I muttered

Elly raised an eyebrow slightly.

“ Is that so?”

At that moment I wanted the earth to open and swallow me alive.

Elly leaned closer to the laptop to explain , his shoulder brushed mine slightly.not enough to be oblivious , just enough to make me sit straighter .

And I don't know why.

I was watching my wrecked watch every minute.

“You have a special date, do you?” he asked, leaning back on the chair.

I looked up from the screen.

“ What makes you think of that? ” I asked back.

“ You have been looking your watch every minute,”

“ So…” I asked again, confused by the previous question.

“ I thought maybe you have a date with your boyfriend. An anniversary or something that you don't need to be late for” he stated shrugging as if it was matter of fact

“No Mr Brown , I am very single , I need to prepare dinner and have a sweet sleep”. I answered which I took the finished hard copy. Putting all my belongings in my bag.

“ Thank you Mr Brown” I said standing up, adjusting the stripes of my bag on my shoulders.

He stood up and took heavy steps to me where I stood awkwardly. Hand on the side pockets.

“You're staring” He stated.

I didn't notice until he spoke, why am l in this situation again.

“ And it's Elly for you, Dot” he leaned close

“ How much do I have to pay?” I asked ,

“ Nothing,” he said, leaning closer .

“ Nothing?....No I have to pay you, I don't take things from strangers” I said

“ Strangers? ….your unbelievable” he said. He went back behind the desk.

His cold, calm expression was back.

“10 $” he said, not looking at me at all.

I put the bill on the desk.

“ Thanks again”. I exited his office quickly as if it would burn me.

I went to the counter, where Claus was. I stopped on my track and felt disgusted by what I saw . Claus and Kira were eating each other alive at this daylight duh.

“ You two couldn't find a room?” they jumped off each other, Kira making herself presentable. Smiling at herself , she cleared her voice.

“ Lina I hope Mr Brown has helped you well” Claus said after a while of awkward silence.

“ Ooh he sure did, Thank you Claus” I said, opening the glass door, a doorbell ringing indicating I'm out of the door but entered something else.

“ See you around” was the last thing I heard from that shop that day.

I searched my purse and I found only 20 dollars , ooh God I need money, it's urgent . ‘ I will find a job today. I have no choice".
