Chapter 5; David’s Regret

272 Words
David's life, meanwhile, had spiraled. He realized too late that Amara truly wasn't coming back. Without her steady influence, his life became a blur of fleeting jobs, bad decisions, and increasingly wild nights with his friends, who were now less friends and more enablers. He chased temporary thrills, but the hollow space in his chest never filled. He tried to find another woman like Amara, someone who would love him unconditionally, but he quickly realized that women like Amara were rare, and he had destroyed that kind of love himself. Years later, David saw a picture on social media. It was Amara, radiant, smiling, holding hands with a handsome man, and a beautiful child playing nearby. Her smile was genuine, full of peace and happiness he had never truly given her. He saw the warmth in her eyes, a reflection of the profound love she had found. He saw the life he could have had, the family, the stability, the true partnership, all of which he had carelessly thrown away. The regret hit him like a physical blow. He remembered her patient eyes, her unwavering support, her quiet strength. He remembered how she had loved him when he was unlovable. He looked at his own life, a mess of broken promises and fleeting connections, and realized he had lost the best thing that ever happened to him. The memory of Amara, the faithful woman he had taken for granted, haunted him for the rest of his days, a bitter reminder of the good woman he had let go. He learned, in the hardest way possible, that not all good things wait forever.
