As she stared out the window, she decided that she would continue to make a difference in the world. She didn’t need anyone else to help her do it. The baby would come with her, and she could take care of it on her terms. The nurse returned to the room and brought her food. She smiled at her with sympathy, likely aware of what had transpired between her and the doctor. “Nurse Madison?” Ryver asked. “Yes?” Nurse Madison placed the tray in front of her and stood by her side. Ryver sat up in her bed. “How much longer am I to stay here? I mean, if the surgery went well, am I able to check out whenever I want?” The nurse shook her head. “It is recommended that you stay a few more days, but after then, the doctor will sign off on your release. It’s good to get some rest, though.” She patted
