ZEPHYR'S SECRET

313 Words
Zephyr glanced around the café, ensuring they were alone before leaning in closer to Lyra. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee enveloped them, mingling with the soft hum of indie music playing in the background. "There's something I want to tell you, Lyra," he said, his voice low and conspiratorial. Lyra's eyes sparkled with curiosity as she leaned in, her hair brushing against his shoulder. "What is it?" Zephyr hesitated, his gaze drifting to the sketchbook lying open on the table between them. "You know how I've been attending those anime conventions in the city?" Lyra nodded eagerly, her eyes never leaving his face. "Yeah, you've been raving about that new Narutok exhibit." Zephyr took a deep breath, his shoulders tense. "I'm not just attending them, Lyra. I'm actually one of the artists behind the Narutok fanart circulating online." Lyra's eyes widened in surprise, her gaze darting to the sketchbook before returning to his face. "No way! You're 'ZevKai'?" Zephyr nodded, a sheepish grin spreading across his face. "Guilty as charged. I use a pseudonym to keep my art separate from...everything else." Lyra's face lit up with excitement, her smile dazzling. "That's amazing, Zephyr! Your art is incredible!" She leaned back, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "But why the secrecy?" Zephyr's expression turned serious, his voice dropping to a whisper. "My family's... expectations can be overwhelming. I want my art to stand on its own merit, not just be seen as 'Vex art' because of who my parents are." Lyra's eyes softened, understanding dawning on her face. "You want to be seen as more than just a Vex." Zephyr nodded, his eyes locked on hers. "Exactly. I want people to like my art because it's good, not because of who I am." The café's music swelled, filling the silence between them as Lyra's gaze held his, a world of understanding passing between them.
