CHAPTER 8

1258 Words
It is a very ordinary Tuesday afternoon and I am walking lazily to the lecture hall from the school's cafeteria. I can't wait to be done with today's classes, thank God this is the last one. I had my first class at 10 in the morning and it was so boring, I didn't talk to anyone the entire three hours, scratch that, I haven't talked to anyone since last night. Does Ella count? But I was texting with Leo some few hours ago and he promised to wait for me after class. I walk into the hall and I secure myself a seat at the front row, I take my book and pens from my bag, place them on the desk and I start going through my notes from my morning class as I wait for the professor and the rest. I am ten minutes early, as usual. People start to walk in, and in no time, the class is fully packed and noisy. I put my book down since I can't concentrate with all the noise and I take my copy of twilight saga. I am reading the book for the third time now, and it is still as catchy as the first time. I am completely engrossed in the world of vampires and wolves when someone taps my shoulder. I look up and I see a beautiful brunette smiling at me. She has a beautiful pair of hazel eyes, a pretty face, and a charming smile. She is in a pair of blue denim pants, a black crop top, and her hair is pulled in a high ponytail. "Is the seat taken?" She asks and I shake my head. "Nova." She says, sitting down and I raise my eyebrow at her, wondering what nova means and she chuckles. "It's my name, I am Nova Gillies." "Oh, I am really sorry," I say a little bit embarrassed. "I have never heard of the name before," I add giving her an apologetic smile. "It is a unique name." She tells me with a smug smile on. "What's yours?" "Riona Daniels." "Freshman?" "Yeah, Business major. You?" "Me too." She glances at the novel in my hands. "And no, not a freshman. This is my second year." "Wow." "I am just one year ahead, don't give me a wow, I still have a long way to graduation." We both chuckle and she gets busy getting ready for the class just as a young lady, who is too young to be the professor walks in. There is total silence in the room save for the few whispers from boys that are probably busy ogling her shamelessly. "I am Dr. Morgan, and I will be taking you through this unit." Unlike the other professors from the previous classes, who asked us to introduce ourselves, Dr. Morgan goes straight to dictating notes and by the time she walks out, my fingers are practically numb from writing too much and I am so exhausted both mentally and physically. "f**k! This is officially my worst class this semester." Nova shouts, tossing her books in her bag carelessly as she stands up. "Let's go, Riona." "Please call me Rio," I say, politely, while I carefully put my books in my bag pack. "Rio? Like the city?" She asks, narrowing eyes at me and I chuckle. I get that a lot. "Yeah, the most beautiful city in Brazil," I say a smile pulling on my lips and Nova shakes her head. "Nova is the most beautiful city in Brazil." "Wait, there is a city called Nova in Brazil?" "Nova Iguaçu." She tells me with the 'duh' sound while she rolls her eyes dramatically and I chuckle lightly. "Rio and Nova? Our mothers must have been bedmates in the labor ward." I joke and she laughs. "Def! I knew there was a reason I liked you!" "You like me?" I ask rhetorically while I stand up. "Oh no, not in that way, I am as straight as a pole." "I didn't mean like that I-" I start to explain myself and she bursts out laughing. "I know what you meant, we need to work on your sense of humor though." She laughs and I pout in pretense. "You and I will be great friends." I think I have won myself another friend, and it's easier than I thought. "I would like that," I say following her outside. I spot Leo once I step out of the room. He is waiting right outside the hall just like he promised and he starts walking towards us immediately he settles his beautiful green eyes on me, stopping in front of us. "You kept your promise?" I ask, fidgeting with the strap of my bag nervously and I can't help but smile. "I always do." "Is he your boyfriend?" Nova asks curiously and I quickly shake my head. "He is my friend, his name is Leo." I turn towards him. "Leo, meet Nova, my newest friend." Nova smiles at Leo and he smiles back shyly. "Leo and Rio?" She says, looking between us with narrowed eyes. "You two would make a great couple, it is like you were made for each other." "Stop it, Nova, Leo and I are just friends." I say the same time that Leo says "We are just friends," and the three of us break down laughing. "Oh my God! You two are already my OTP." I roll my eyes at her, making a mental note to check OTP on google later. "Seriously, you two look good together. You are a one true pairing." OTP? Leo and I are a One True Pairing? I glance at Leo and I find his eyes entirely on me which makes me blush. "Aww." Nova coos. "Anyways, lovebirds, I have to rush somewhere. See you later BFF." She winks at me, and then she walks away. "She is crazy," Leo comments once Nova is out of sight and I giggle. "Tell me about it," I say glancing at the direction she has disappeared to but she is long gone. We stand there smiling at each other awkwardly until Leo decides to break the silence. "How was your class?" He asks as he leads the way and I follow him towards the parking lot. "Boring, the professor dictated notes for a whole three hours, and I am exhausted." "Can I buy you ice cream on our way home? It might help you relax." Is it a date? Most guys take a girl for ice cream on their first date, right? Don't overthink this, Rio. He is just trying to be a good friend. I glance at him and he c***s his eyebrow at me waiting for an answer. "I am not sure, I am taking Ella for an evening stroll and-" "That is great. Ty and I would love to join you." Ty is his dog, he told me a lot about him yesterday. "If you two won't mind." "That would be cool, really." It would be nice to have his company and maybe Ella might make a new friend. "At what time?" "Five, Maybe we can meet at the place we first met?" You would think we met three months ago yet it has been just a day. "And then we can have ice cream later if that's okay?" "Cool," I say smiling and he smiles right back. "It is settled then. I will call you." He tells me, walking away, and I wave him goodbye as I amble to my car.
