Chapter 2

1450 Words
Teresa's POV I shouldn't get my hopes up with humans because they often disappoint. Like me, who opened my heart to that damn man and ended up being betrayed. If I could inherit my grandfather's fortune only under the condition of marriage, it wouldn't be difficult. "I can do without him." My hands clenched into fists, thinking of everything I'd been through with this bastard. The anger was like a huge bonfire. All this time, I had hidden my true identity, blending in by living an ordinary life. When I was seventeen, I argued with my grandfather, who always insisted on doing this and that. He was always trying to control me. Out of anger, I decided to leave the Cardenans' home. My family was very rich, with wealth that would make anyone envious. I was Adrian Cardenans's only grandchild; there were no other heirs, and he decided to cut off any luxuries I had from the Cardenans. I didn't care because the stubborn old man also had to learn his lesson. I got a scholarship, graduated with top marks, and worked in the accounting division. It wasn't very special, but I earned it on my own merit, and it was quite difficult. I proved myself, allowing me to raise my head in front of Grandpa. Then, half a year ago, my grandfather came to see me and said he apologized and talked about leaving me the property he had as long as I got married. That's a shitty condition. I know what my grandfather wants. He must still want to set me up with a man from the Saville family. "Take it easy, grandfather. I'll get myself a husband." Of course, I wasn't going to give up. I had many ways. After all the daring things I did, I ended up at a nightclub. Opening your heart to someone and getting betrayed like this is not fun. "I'm really good at being strong." I fiddled with the glass in my hand, the red liquid moving. I smiled. "but I am smart." I immediately turned away and looked at the sea of humans here. They were all here to have fun, and I could find many types of men to use. After quitting my job, I decided it was better to find a man who could be my husband contractually. One thing I thought of was looking for him here. It was a bold move, but it didn't matter because it was just a partnership. "Which one should I choose?" I muttered to myself while watching them. In my focused attention, I could feel someone sitting next to me. I ignored him until I felt a hint of despair burning in my eyes. I looked down and pressed my forehead. "Ah, I can't find him at all." I moved towards the bar table again. After looking at all of them, not a single one caught my eye. If only my grandfather didn't need to state this annoying condition, I wouldn't have to feel this unpleasant. As I placed the glass down roughly, I could hear the sound of a strong glass. "Miss, that glass might break and hit your hand." The male voice coming from beside me made me look at him. He's a man with messy hair. I see his casual dress style, which doesn't cover his good looks. He's wearing a watch on his right hand, and a look in his eyes seems to be observing. This guy is a bit annoying. I made my head look up and started talking nonsense out of ignorance. We were only going to meet once, and my head felt so heavy. "Mister, if you care so much about me, how about treating me?" I needed more alcohol. Although I was a rich man, my savings were no more than ten thousand dollars because that wealth was not yet in my hands. The man approached me, holding my hand. He made me return to my original position. "Miss, I can't treat you because I don't have any money." His sweet smile was annoying. I heard that many young men come here without money. They usually look for old ladies who want to take care of them. I tilted my head and looked at him more intensely than before. Thinking about something quite hard and fast. "You're waiting for someone to pick you up...?" I spoke softly. We both stared at each other briefly and then he nodded. "Yeah, he's quite late." Maybe this was my chance. I didn't need to tell him everything. It had to be done carefully. I held his hand tightly. "Perfect." "You seem to be drunk already." The man spoke seriously. His handsome face was more attractive than Boxton's. By far. I shook my head slowly. "No." Then, I returned my focus to him again. "Introducing me is Teresa. You?" The man eyed me but said nothing. "Your name," I emphasized the sentence. He exhaled his breath. "Ash." He spoke briefly but answered my question. Even his name alone described his good looks. I admire him and understand why he can do this work. He knows how to utilize it well. I grasped his hand tighter. "Ash, I have an offer for you." The man looked at me, his gray eyes flashing. My heartbeat followed the rhythm of the music here, speeding up and getting the adrenaline in my blood pumping. Maybe it's like Ash said, I'm already drunk. But I'm not going to waste this opportunity. "What if you became my husband, Ash?" Ash widened his eyes, and I could feel his hands moving as if he wanted to escape from there. It's a good thing I grasped his hand tightly. "Be my paid spouse, Ash. I need a husband, I'll pay you a lot of money, and I don't do anything you don't want." I leaned in. My statement was emphasized, and I could take responsibility for it. It was important to be convincing. We looked at each other, and I hadn't heard her reply at all. "Interesting." The one word that came out of his mouth made me focus on him again. "I'll pay you one million dollars after the contract is finalized. How about it, Ash?" I let go of his hand, but this time, he was the one holding my hand. He seemed to be a pro at this kind of thing because of his calm demeanor in the face of such a sudden offer from a woman he had just met for the first time. "Why do you need a hired husband?" He was probably very curious about my reasoning. "It's because my grandfather is going to age soon." I seemed to bite my own tongue when I said it. I was cautious because I didn't want Ash to betray me when he found out. He shouldn't have known this. Suddenly, his big hand caressed my cheek, making my eyes tremble and making me keep looking at him. "Do you know that if you ask a man to marry you, he can do anything?" He was treating me like a child. "You dare. Do you really not know me?" Strange. It was obvious he was a man who could be paid here. But before I could say it, he brought his head closer and kissed me, which silenced my mouth. He did a tongue play that was so agile and made me so weak. I don't know how long it had been, but when we stopped kissing and parted, he made me look like a stupid woman. "Do you still want to marry me, Miss?" I nodded my head. This way, everything would go well. "Let's get married. I will guarantee your life and respect you greatly as my husband!" A big voice and several people heard what had happened to us. Ash laughed with his right hand slightly covering his mouth. Amongst everything, all my attention was drawn to him. "You're really crazy, lady. But I accepted your offer because I also need a wife." He even said it as if we were in the same situation. After that, we spent the night drinking alcohol. A mutual agreement should be celebrated. I had also gotten his phone number. Before I knew it, I was drunk and in the car. I looked at Ash, who was beside me. "You called a taxi?" Ash held my forehead, keeping my head from falling. "Yes. You told me your address earlier." I squinted at his words as my attention was focused on the front. It was a luxurious taxi with a driver wearing a suit. Maybe I was so drunk that I couldn't see clearly.
