"Mom. I can do it myself." I muttered, taking the spoon from her. I started to mix the grits in the pot the way she did, but mine no matter how hard I tried to imitate her every motion my grits always came out lumpy and weird looking. There was no use to even trying, I thought, but my friend told me I should never give up.
I frowned, looking inside the pot, but all of a sudden it started to pop. I fell back onto the floor, off of the step stool I was elevated on and onto the floor landing straight on my arm.
"Honeybee, are you alright?" My dad exclaimed, running into the kitchen.
I hopped onto my feet, but I couldn't feel my arm. There was grits all in my hair, and I frowned. Why does food hate me?
My mom's eyes were wide. Kinda like how Sponge Bob's eyes were. I always found him creepy, that's why I like hello kitty instead. "What?" I grumbled. I hated being stared at, and my mom did it a lot.
"Your hair." She burst out giggling, as I pouted before running away trying to get out of their sight.
My dad called after me, "Chlo." I turned around seeing him with his huge arms out for me. Usually I'd run into them, but not today. My dad was pretty huge, being that he was the Beta of their pack. My mom was tiny, like me.
I have 5 other siblings, but I'm the youngest, so I'm the only one that lives here. Sometimes they visit but I usually don't see them. I also didn't have a wolf like everyone else. Mom tells me that one day I'll have one, but I waited so long that I don't really care anymore. "But I have grits in my hair." I mumbled, sadly.
He stepped forward, picking me up and twirling me around in his arms. "My little angel can't be sad."
"I have to go to school." I grumbled into his hair.
He chuckled, causing his chest to vibrate. It tickled my chest, so I wriggled out of his arms.
I went to the nearest bathroom and brushed the food out of my hair. I wore a pink hello kitty shirt with jeans and converse.
My hair was red like my moms, but slightly darker and brown like my dad's hair.
"Pumpkin come on." My mom yelled from the living room.
I ran out of the bathroom, after grabbing my book bag from the stairs. "Why can't I walk by myself?" I pouted.
My mom sighed, "Because we want to keep an eye on you."
"But I'm 17." I grumbled, looking down at my feet. My dad laughed, scooping me off my feet.
"You'll always be my baby though come on. Maybe we'll let you walk tomorrow."
"No!" I jumped out his arms, "I'm going on my own today."
My dad looked at my mom who exhaled, groaning, "Fine. Be careful." She kissed my forehead, and so did my dad.
I ran straight towards my pink bike that was on the side of the house. "Yes." I smirked evilly to myself. I waved at all of the neighbors I seen. Most of them waved back because they liked me, but I think some didn't. They always had this mean look on their face.
Gavins POV
"I don't know." I growled through the phone at my dumb ass friend.
Carlos argued with me, "You need to get to school before your dad realizes you haven't been coming-" I hung up on him, parking my truck outside of hell aka high school. I had already been to school, I just didn't finish and I was here for a few classes, but that was it.
I started my walk down the sidewalk realizing it was starting to get cold as fall began. Usually all the men in the pack grew stronger, but personally I know that I usually naturally bulked up.
I could see the leaves already falling which would leave one hell of a mess in the backyard. And of course my dad would make me clean it instead of an omega or something. He was always whining about what I did and didn't do. At the end of the day, I'm his only son and honestly I'm not half as bad as he makes me out to be.
As I walked I noticed a little girl who wasn't paying attention to where she was going at all. Her mind was in a whole other place as she continued to ride her bike dangerously. I furrowed my eyebrows noticing the incoming car. I started to run towards the girl, and caught her as she fell taking most of the impact from the hit. I may be an Alpha male, but that hurt like a b***h.
The pain almost stopped me from realizing that in my arms I held my mate.
I stared down at her small figure, her eyes were squeezed shut, and I could tell she was terrified. She looked awfully young and that totally cut off any inappropriate thoughts I had. I couldn't bring myself to be that sick. Especially seeing her hello kitty shirt. That actually made me chuckle.
I'd probably have to wait years to actually be with her. "Hey, its alright." I noticed the huge dent in the car, but once I realized it was a pack member that almost killed my mate I didn't even care about paying for the damage. I simply shot him a look to which he quickly bowed his head and drove away.
"Whats your name?" I asked, trying to get her to open her eyes. Her red curly hair was a mess in her face and it was tangled as if she'd struggled to comb it this morning.
She slowly opened her green eyes that were huge and looked even bigger as she widened them at the sight of me. "Chloe." She grumbled, her eyes started to water at the sight of her bike. It was crushed, to be blunt..
That should've been the least of her worries right now. She could've died.
She huffed, "Dads never gonna let me walk alone again." Her plump pink lips were poked out as she looked at the damaged bike.
And neither will I.
She frowned looking at me, tilting her head. "Can you put me down? I have to get to school." She hesitantly looked away from her bike with a confused and concentrated look. "Thank you for.. saving me?" It sounded more like a question, but I decided to just nod at her. I think that confused her even more, maybe she's used to actual words.
"You're welcome." She smiled at me gently, hopping on her feet ready to go to school after such a near fatal accident. I hesitantly put her on her feet, stopping her from bouncing. How can fate be so cruel to have me feel these sparks but not be able to act on it because she's basically a baby? "I'll walk with you to your school. Ellenwood?" I looked across the street at the school.
She pouted at me, as if she was offended. She grunted. "I hope you're not here to bully me because I'll get my friend on you."
I wanted to chuckle at her cuteness, but I realized that means people bother my sweet little mate at school.
It's not like I could beat some little kids up, but I could definitely kill their parents and have them deported to canada. I don't think my mom would be too fond of that though. She always complains about my dad and I being too impulsive. Being impulsive is what keeps me from choking my moms mate aka my dad who pisses me off on the daily.
I looked at my mate who basically ignored her little pink bike now. She was a quick daydreamer, and always looked in deep thought. Ellenwood consisted of Primary, Secondary and High school. It was sometimes irritating to deal with those little pups because I always nearly ran them over, walking through the main entrance. I stood behind her as she walked across the street.
I sighed, of course my mate would be a little kid. "Whats your name again?" I just wanted to see if she realized I asked twice.
"Chloe." She stated after she skipped her way into the building. Of course she didn't notice. "Mom told me not to.. talk to strangers."
"Are you just gonna leave your bike?" This little girl was insane. I'm sure she heard me, but she ignored me.
I found my friends Tristen, and Austin in the parking lot of the school. I didn't park here because I didn't want to be held accountable for running over kids.
Tristen looked at me strangely as I watched Chloe walk into the main building. I'm pretty sure that girl causes trouble for everyone around her, but I've got to admit even as a child she was gorgeous. "The hell is wrong with you?" He tilted his head while raising an eyebrow. "Dont tell me you're high." He chuckled, patting my shoulder.
"Nah man." I muttered, running my hand through my hair. "Let's just get to class I need to talk to my mom."
We began to walk into the building, and of course I almost ran over 50 kids but still managed to get into the high school part of this damned building.
Tristen leaned in close to me, "You do realize you terrify every child in this school you could try cracking a smile."
I looked at him with a straight face, "No."
Tristen looked at Austin for back up, but I knew he wasn't gonna get any because Austin wasn't a talker. He looked just as angry as me, but he was actually a really cool person. All three of us and two other guys grew up together. I briefly smiled to myself thinking of those distant memories.
I walked through the halls ignoring the looks thrown my way and continued searching for my mom, until I saw my little mate standing at a locker talking to a guy named Sam. Her talking to him didn't bother me at all because everyone knows that Sam is gay. Him being gay definitely doesn't take away from how good of a warrior and tracker he is though.
He holds a high rank, and a surprising amount of respect amongst the wolves simply because he can put each of them on their ass.
I looked at Chloe with an eyebrow raised, but she hadn't noticed me yet. Of course she didn't, she isn't a werewolf. However, Sam noticed me and looked at me very confused. I averted my eyes to my little mate.
Tristen and Austin followed me of course, like they always do.
"Chloe?" I called, getting her attention. Sam gauged her expression carefully, then looked at me. "What are you doing here?" She looked at me with a confused look. Her eyebrows nearly touched together at how hard she was scrunching her facial features. Her face suddenly washed over with realization.
I literally just saved this girls life ten minutes ago.
Though I didn't actually tell her my name.
She answered me, after looking at Sam who only shrugged. "This is my school what do you mean?"
I mindlinked the morons around me to leave, so they did.
"Hey?" She called after Sam, who rightly ignored her. She looked up at me, pouting. "You scared my friend away." She murmured into her scarf that was tightly bundled around her. I don't remember that being there when she was outside.
I chuckled, "How old are you?" I asked her.
"You're a stranger. I-I don't tell strangers my age." Her eyes were wide, causing me to smile. "You have a pretty smile."
I scoffed, "My smile is not pretty."
"Yes it is." She frowned. "Pretty is like cute which is like h-handsome which is like beautiful which is like-"
"Okay okay fine." I stopped her from continuing her rambling. "So in order to know stuff about you we have to be... friends?"
She looked down. "No one wants to be my friend so I don't expect you to say y-yes."
It was cute how nervous she was getting with me. "I'll be your friend." I chuckled softly, seeing her visibly relax.
"I'm 17. I'm a junior but I'm graduating early.. with an advanced diploma and I think I'm valedictorian." My mouth dropped open. I always assumed that Chloe girl was some brace faced human, with nerdy glasses, but in front of me was the opposite. My tiny beautiful mate. "Um.. your mouth is open." She pointed to my mouth and I noticed that she smelled like honey. "Whats your name?"
"Gavin."
She stood there with a confused look on her face. "I can't think of a nickname."
I looked inside her lockers and saw an entire container of sprinkles. "Why do you have sprinkles in your locker?" They were probably stale and for decoration. I had a feeling that those sweets weren't supposed to be in there and she had probably snuck them past her parents.
Her eyes widened as if she had a light bulb moment. "I'll call you sprinkles." She bounced on her feet, causing people to look my way.
"You're not calling me sprinkles." I growled. Her big green eyes widened. "I knew you were a werewolf." She murmured. "You're so big." She reveled.
I raised an eyebrow at her, "You're a werewolf?"
She looked down, embarrassed almost, "I don't have one. My dad does, but my mom is human. All my other siblings are wolves though." She grumbled the last part quietly. "But mom says that I might get my wolf someday I'm just really small."
I nodded at her, agreeing with her mom. She was so small and fragile that it wasn't hard to believe she could be a slow developer.
The bell rung, signaling that we had to get to class. "I have to go." She mumbled, starting to walk away. I looked at her small figure as she got only a step away from me.
I grabbed her waist, pulling her back to me, tilting my head to the side, "Where's my goodbye?"
She blushed very heavily which made me want to laugh because it was actually really cute. "Why are you being so nice to me?" She asked quietly.
"Because I'm your mate."
She glanced down at the hand on her waist. "What if you're lying to me an-and you're just trying to hurt me or kidnap me?"
I frowned looking at her big green eyes with a serious look on my face. There would never be a day in my life that I'd ever think about hitting her. I would never hit my mate because I was taught better than that. "I wouldn't do that." I raise an eyebrow at her because she immediately nodding her head believing me. I hoped she wasn't this easily persuaded with other people because if so then I would need to talk to her about that.
"Are you new here?" She asked as she began walking to what I assumed was her class. We turned to the staircase and she walked up the stairs. She rambled on and on about how she loved her classes and her teachers and Sam. I found it funny that she couldn't get up one flight of stairs without getting out of breath, but It dimmed when I realized that she had a heart condition. She told me in the most casual ways possible, but now we're on our way up the stairs while she's in my arms. She protested but there's not much she can do in this position.
"Please put me down." She pouted, making her big eyes even wider than usual.
I reached the fourth floor where her class was. AP Government. She told ne she had a free block after this during her nonstop chatter, so I was going to meet her after class.
I didn't understand how my mate ended up being a 5'1 ginger girl who reminded me of a toddler.
Chloe POV
"Why'd you leave me earlier?" I mumbled, sitting beside Sam.
Sam chuckled, looking at me with a wide smile. "I'm guessing you met your mate?" Sam was my bestfriend. He's always been my bestfriend. When I was little I didn't really have any friends so my parents had me meet Sam. Sam is 18 while I'm 17, I met him when I was 7 but he's always been more mature than me.
I looked at him confused, tilting my head to the side. "Yeah. How'd you know?"
Sam shook his head with that weird face he always made, "He was looking at you like a piece of meat."
I gasped, "is he gonna eat me?"
As always Sam chuckled, patting my head. "You're always so cute."
"Are we gonna watch a movie today? It's Friday."
"Yeah we can but I think the alpha migh-" I suddenly remembered my bike being ran over this morning. "-Whats wrong?" He asked, in response to my gasp.
"Um.."
Sam growled quietly as people poured into the room. "Chlo what did you do?" I could already see the irritation form on his face.
"Nothing.. it was an accident. My bike.."
"What happened to your bike?" He asked calmer now. I liked it better when people were calm with me because Werewolves sometimes got tempers. Sometimes all the negative energy made me wanna cry.
"A car." I whispered.
His eyes widened, "Did you get hurt?"
I bit the inside of my lip as a tiny smile started to form. "No. I didn't get hurt."
He raised an eyebrow at me, "How?" I pouted at him. He underestimates me because I'm not a werewolf. I'm tiny not fragile. As if knowing what I was thinking he said, "You're too fragile to have survived that."
I huffed crossing my arms, "Gavin saved me I guess."
Sam chuckled, "Thats ironic. You and the guy have been in this building for years and he's never noticed you once." There was suddenly a look of disgust on his face and perhaps it was toward my mate but why?
I poked his face then tried to flip his smile around. "Stop frowning." Class finally started and I sighed, depressingly. I pay attention in all my classes, but AP Government was especially boring. I liked Science and math more than anything.
Sam loved this class, but I think it's more because he had a crush on the teacher. I'm pretty sure they're mates actually, however Sam said it's too complicated. He sometimes comes into class with a sad look in his eyes, and so does the teacher. Although Sam may be sad, he always tries to be positive.
He looked happy today, and so did Mr.Ximmerman. Sam referred to him as Zeke though.
"He looks hot today." Sam muttered very quietly.
"I don't understand why you guys aren't friends?"
He chuckled, "We are friends."
"I mean.. I don't know the word." I sighed. "Dating?"
He blushed softly, so I'd pulled his cheek which he swatted away. "Don't do that." I shrugged. "And because he's a teacher and he struggles with being openly gay."
"There's nothing wrong with being gay." I said out loud. I caught some people's attention who just scolded me and Mr.Ximmerman who suddenly looked irritated or embarrassed.
Sam shushed me, "Just.. do your warm up."
I huffed, "Don't tell me what to do."
Muttering, Sam shushed me, "He's listening he's not human. Quiet."
I frowned before finally being quiet and doing my stupid warm up. When the bell rang Sam disappeared, but that's normal. He usually pops up at my house and talks to my dad. Dad really likes Sam. Maybe even more than me.
I walked through the hall, but stopped remembering that Gavin—well Sprinkles said that he was going to come see me after class. I didn't know if I should wait or not, but wouldn't it be right for me to wait for my mate? Mom told me all about mates, but I didn't know a lot about them. Him being so big and me, so small was intimidating for me. Although, some men are big and nice like teddy bears. My dad for example.
Someone snapped in my face, I blinked, narrowing my eyes at the fingers. I didn't know how to snap. I frowned looking up at his really blue eyes. "How do you do that?" He raised an eyebrow like he always does. "That too?!" I exclaimed. He looked at me in confusion. "I don't know how to snap or raise one eyebrow." I grumbled.
He chuckled, "Really? Snapping?"
"Yes. I can't do that. It must be easy since your fingers are so huge." I raised my hand up showing him my baby like hand. It didn't bother me much, though I didn't like being teased for being small. He looked like he was about to speak, but I interrupted him, "Can we get food I'm hungry? All of my breakfast got in my hair."
A/N I hope this book is okay. I'm trying this thing where I make my chapters a bit longer than my other books. 2500-4000 words maybe. I'm trying. And the book POV will definitely switch back and forth. Usually between the main characters.
