Chapter 2: The Gift 2

SCCHKKKKK!! BAM!

A car driver that seemed drunk crashed Hanna over, left Hanna barely breathing. Kliera snapped back to reality as she saw the car driving away in a hurry, she immediately ran over to Hanna. In shock of what happened, she trembled like crazy trying to touch Hanna’s dying body. As she was crying out of regret and sadness not to be able to save her friend, she held her body tightly in her arms. As she closed her eyes crying, she could feel a warm and gentle yet ticklish breeze around her.

SWOOOSHH~!

As she opened her eyes curious of what it could be, she saw Hanna’s broken bones, bruises, large wounds that was bleeding heavily, got recovered as new as before Hanna got crashed over by the car and was only sleeping peacefully in her arms.

Kliera rejoiced that her friend got cured and turned to Lina smiling happily, but Lina who saw what happened before her very eyes couldn’t believe what she saw and so are the people around them. As shook as Lina is, she couldn’t move an inch and almost as if she was standing there dazed, as the sound of an ambulances siren approaching the place of the incident.

WIU! WIU! WIU! WIU!

The words Lina spit out while trembling was “Wh-What happened to Hanna’s wounds? N-Now that I think about it, y-you also stopped us when crossing. Kliera… What-What are you..?!”. Hearing that made Kliera answer trembling in fear “Wha- What a-are you talking about…? I-I’m just the s-same Kliera you know…” As people heard what Lina was saying, they gazed at Kliera as if she was a hideous creature.

The pressure in the gaze of the people around her, the look of fear from Lina, all made her feel nauseous. As the ambulance stopped and nurses gone out to save Hanna, a patient but no wounds whatsoever in Kliera’s arms sleeping peacefully. “Child, what happened here? There was a call earlier about a child that got ran over by a car. Is this her?” the nurse asked holding her hand as she was helping Kliera stand up. “Seeing as though they are blood on her clothes but doesn’t have wounds, was it a prank by any chance?!” another nurse added.

“No, sh-she did got ran over by a car earlier! B-But when Kliera touched her… h-her wounds disappeared!” Lina shouted pointing at Kliera with a pale face. “N-No, I don’t know anything! Bu-But please! Take her to the hospital!” Kliera begged to the nurses. As they agreed to take her to the hospital and left, Kliera who was standing looking at the ambulance in a distance that became smaller as time passed. Lina approached Kliera and pushed her down with a look of malice, and said something that made Kliera remember and caused a wound in her heart. “Go away from us starting now! Don’t come near us! You’re a monster! That must be why your parents abandoned you!” with that remarks, she left running away without looking back.

Kliera was shocked and sad at the same time of what she just heard from a girl she considered one of her best friends. As Kliera glanced around she also saw the people’s gaze that got her stuck sitting on the ground. [But, I was just trying to help… Is it that bad trying to help a friend? Am I a monster?] she thought crying in that very moment. Even though in a pitiful state she is in, no one helped her up or even asked whether she was alright. Many people ignored her as if she wasn’t there from the beginning and left her alone sitting on the ground.

As she walks home looking down at her feet, she heard a familiar gentle voice calling out her name “Kliera? Kliera?! What happened to you?! Hmm? Tell me what happened!” the voice with concern made her feel warmth spreading in her body from her heart. As she looked up to see who it was, the voice came from Teacher Adda who looked worried and in panic, but behind Teacher Adda are large bags.

Surprised after she saw the bags, she asked with a teary eyes “Teacher Adda…? Wh-What’s with those bags…? Are you leaving me behind too?”. Teacher Adda was shocked and thought [Too…?] but answered with her usual gentle voice “Remember what I told you yesterday? Someday, those who are close to you will take separate ways and say their farewell. But not a last farewell of course, because I will visit you here often ok?” saying all that while caressing her small head made Kliera bursted tears streaming down her face. “Y-You promise that you will visit me right? You won’t leave forever right?!” she cried and cried until she got tired from crying and fell asleep in Teacher Adda’s arms.

As she woke up next morning, she couldn’t find Miss Adda anywhere. As she started to tear up again, she remembered what Teacher Adda told her that she will meet her again. So, she made up her mind to be strong enough and wait but she remembered another incident that happened yesterday, and that is Hanna’s car accident.

Scared and worried at the same time, she still went to school with hesitation but still entered anyway. As she walked in her classroom, she could feel another gazes of pressure the same as yesterday not just gazes but she could also hear murmurs around her. What made her even shocked is that the rumors around her is about, how she was an orphan that got abandoned by her parents because she is a monster.

But as she glanced around and saw Hanna in good health her worries and feeling of nauseous vanished, what replaced that feeling was relief and happiness to see her friend again. But, as she made eye contact with Hanna, Hanna avoided her eyes and was blocked by Lina’s body purposely. She just thought that she avoided her gaze was because she was a little surprised, so she called out to her but Lina glared at her and shouted “I told you not to come near us again!!” Kliera was shocked and glanced at Hanna “H-Hanna…?” she asked reaching out to her.

SLAP!

“I said don’t come near us! You monster!” Lina yelled as she slapped Kliera, Kliera couldn’t move an inch as she was surprised of how her “friend” treated her. After a moment of awkward silence the teacher entered and interrupted the silence “Children? What happened? I can hear loud voices from outside. Did something happen?” she asked while glancing around the room. “Oh my! What happened to your cheeks Kliera? Who did that to you?” the teacher added with concern, but still didn’t come to approach Kliera to comfort her.

As Kliera glanced at her, the teacher flinched as if a hideous monster is eyeing on her. Even though the answer is obvious, she still asked “Teacher, am I a monster as the rumors says?”. The teacher couldn’t say anything, let alone look at her directly in the eyes.

[Is that so… I’m a monster. Right, there is no monster that is kind enough to try and help.] she thought to herself bitterly smiling. “So shall we start the class, teach?” she asked smiling. The teacher was surprised but still nodded in reply.

After that, her life continued being ignored by everyone, and was always alone but still waited for Teacher Adda to return but didn’t until as she has grown enough to move out and live by herself when she was in high school.

[Present Time]

The pressure is still the same, the gazes that makes me feel nauseous and people avoiding my looking into my eyes, not to mention coming near me. This is a curse given to me by God.
