Immediately, I felt like we were finally moving forward, we weren’t moving in circles, or through
assumptions or theories. We were moving forward.
Chris was making calls, Ethan was already thinking three steps ahead, discussing logistics and timelines as though the woman in custody was simply another problem that needed solving and
maybe that was why I felt hopeful because he had taken over, not completely or in a controlling way but in the way powerful people did when they decided something mattered.
The flowers had changed something, it had crossed a line and for the first time since all of this started, Ethan looked personally offended. I didn’t know why that made me feel safer but it did.
“We should speak to her before anyone else does,” Ethan said.
