Raven Raven I let the barbell crash to the floor and followed it down, my ass hitting the padded mat with a dull thud. My lungs burned. My legs shook. I stared up at the ceiling, sweat dripping into my hairline, my heart beat pounding so loudly in my ears that it drowned out the still blaring music from my phone. I couldn't do another hip thrust if my life depended on it. Normally, the gym quieted the noise in my head. Pain was grounding. Repetition was control, therapy.
