My eyes widened comically. I sat closer to the old man as if I could extract all the information about my parents just from being near him. He gave me a soft and gentle smile that reminded me of a grandfatherly type of affection. I was told I didn't have any other family besides my parents, none that wanted me anyway.
I had ignored Nicos words about my parents working for his family. I wasn't sure I was ready to hear anything he had to say at the moment. I didn't trust him and whatever connection we had was cracked when he inserted that needle into my neck instead of just talking to me. Not that I would have listened or heard him, though.
