REBORN LUNA

CHAPTER 7: REBORN LUNA Veronica Pain stretched through my body like a daring arthritis as I tried to move. A sharp moan escaped my lips and I lay back down, then it came flashing back. The dynamic energy that exploded through my veins. The strange sudden awakening of my long silent and inactive wolf… the rebirth of my wolf. That overwhelming and nearly dangerous desire to destroy anyone and anything that tried standing in the way of letting me get what I wanted. Even as I laid weak, I could still feel the aura of my wolf, builded like brazen walls around her. Alertness a hundred and one on point. My hearing seemed triple its normal distance capacity. And even my wrecked nerves were rapidly stretching back to place. The feeling was… surreal! Even before the surgery that broke my wolf, I didn't possess this level of agility. That was why the more I tried to make out what exactly could have stirred the powerful transformation of my wolf, the stranger it seemed. A partition ritual. Gravely consequencial! Not one meant to impact me, but meant to sever what little remains of connection I had left with the Mooncrest pack. My under-shattered mate bond with Richard, my Luna strength over the pack. Catherine was after my entire life, ready to ruin my very existence and prolly wipe my image from the face of the world. The man I called my husband and served for nine years of marriage too. I thought I'd finally met my end, just a footstep to the grim reaper. But instead my wolf had gotten triggered and suddenly awakened, stronger than ever before. Ready to decapitate every joint of muscles holding the structure of their bodies in one and have their severed parts layered for a burnt offering sacrifice to the goddess. Footsteps approached outside the door and I swatted my gaze over in alert. Alpha Damian appeared by the door, and my heart skipped beats as a flash memory of how I'd flung that ceramic vase at him crossed my head. Our gazes fused for what felt like forever when it was only just a few seconds. Without a word, he stepped back and shut the door, his footsteps retreating behind. A long sigh came off my lips. I hadn't meant to hurt him, but I definitely meant to pass the message of refusing to be used. Not by him, not by whoever else. I stopped being a pawn on the chessboard after Richard's betrayal. I was simply helpless. Choiceless. And forced to consider his damnation earlier then. Not now. Not when every stream of blood in my veins felt like proactive fuel waiting to explode at any slightest provocation. Footsteps returned towards the door and I subconsciously swatted my gaze over once again. This time it was the healer with Alpha Damian ₩₩₩ in behind her. Except that he took only a step from the door, while the healer came down to my bed. She smiled shortly. “How do you feel?’’ I heard her, but my thoughts swayed, far from the woman in front of me and buried with many feet away. No, I wasn't staring at him. Or even though my gaze was on him it focused on his leg. Earlier when he walked in to see me, I'd noticed him limping slightly. My guts keep telling me it was the same leg I'd struck him limped on. “What, you wanna come after me again?’’ Alpha Damian suddenly said. I didn't miss the hint of sarcasm etched in his voice, but the look on his face hit worse. He nudged his chin towards the healer, in a manner that suggested that I stopped acting so dumb and ‘pay attention’. “How were you feeling minutes ago? Do you remember what happened before then?’’ The healer asked again. “Catherine was in the middle of a ritual to completely destroy me.’’ I could still see the image, clearly printed in my head. “Catherine…’’ “The woman that stole my life. My husband. My son. My pack. Even my position. But she's still not satisfied. She wants to shatter every piece of bond I have left with the Mooncrest pack. And she won't back down!’’ Unlike all the other times when I felt nothing but pain thinking about everything, anger swelled madly in my chest this time. Maybe Catherine's ritual took the required impact? And now there was nothing left between myself and Richard. “How did you know that?’’ Came Alpha Damian from his angle. Scoffs. Why was he asking me that now, doesn’t he expect a dumb answer? “By chance, did you get the vision?’’ The healer asked with a trail of disbelief not only in her voice but in her eyes too. “You could say that.’’ She quietly pulled back from me, looking deep in thoughts. Something told me she found it somewhat strange, and in sincerity it was kinda mutual. I wasn't blessed with the ability of visions. ‘‘Have you experienced anything like that before now? Having visions of….’’ “Not really.’’ I cut in. She proceeded to run some check up on me, and I couldn't not notice the amusement and often confusion that crossed her face every time. When she was done, she left without a word. “Do you think there is a problem?’’ I subconsciously directed at Alpha Damian, unable to shake it off. “There are a lot of problems. And solving them right will depend on only you and how you manage them.’’ “What?’’ He stole my gaze from the door immediately. Drawing out a chair, I couldn't fail to notice his slight limps even though he tried to withstrain it from notice. “First off, your identity has spread through the whole of Shadowfang. Your identity I mean is the livid side. Not sure if you know what that means.’’ He smirked wryly. If I'm not mistaken, he couldn't be talking about my hourly old reborn wolf. “Apparently, a few workers saw Marcus fleeing in horror and tried to figure out the cause. Unfortunately they saw you being all apoplectic and dangerous. Now it's all over the pack that there is a monster around which the members will stop at nothing to eliminate.’’ My blood ran cold.
