I thought about how so many people in my line of work were threatened and blackmailed into doing what they didn't want to do because of the people they cared for. Family, friends, girlfriends, boyfriends… everyone can be used against you. And it wasn't a threat unless it was followed through, was it? I'd seen what it did to people, losing the people they loved to a life of crime. You couldn't have both if you were in this work. You were either in the mafia, or you were out. There was no in-between.
