her pov
The sun streamed through the windows, hitting my eyes just as I slowly opened them, my head throbbing with a splitting headache.
Yesterday, I drank so much that I can’t remember anything. I only remember drinking shots after shot. I don't know if Emma and Olivia could make it at their home back.
I looked around the familiar room and immediately checked my clothes — they still smelled of alcohol and sweat from the night before.
I didn't know how I came here, what had happened to me, or why I ended up in this bed. My memory was blank. The images in my mind were so blurred that I couldn't make out anything.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. I stood up unsteadily and went to check.
A woman in her 30s walked in. She smiled–Her face was radiant and warm and for a second my heart skipped a beat. Who was she and what was she doing here?
My thoughts were filled with jealousy–What if she was somehow related to Mr Ryan Parker or she could be his girlfriend. I tightened my nails on my dress, giving a fake smile to her.
“Hello, my name is Lisa, and I’m the housekeeper here,” she said, placing a glass of water on the bedside table. I nodded silently.
She’s just a housekeeper. Nothing else
“Your breakfast is ready and If you need anything, just call me, ma'am,” she added, and again, I nodded.
“Where is sir?” I asked, my voice low and uncertain.
“He went to the company, ma'am,” she replied calmly.
Thank God he wasn’t here. Otherwise, he might have informed my mother—or worse. I don’t even want to think about what I could’ve done in my drunken state. It may be disastrous or could be bold. Or worse I might kiss him.
“Ohh, and ma'am, your new dress has been placed in your cupboard,” she informed me before leaving the room.
I took the medicine and took a deep breath—anxiety was the only thing I could feel at this point and I was a little nervous to face him. I closed my eyes trying to process what I had done but there was nothing that clicked my mind.
I looked at the mirror, and my face was a mess. My face was smudged and smeared with makeup. The red lipstick was bled across my mouth, mixed with the streaks of black eyeliner creating a distorted mask I barely recognised. My hairs were tangy, wild and scattered all over my face.
I immediately went inside the bathroom to take a warm shower. The hot water dripped on my face as I closed my eyes. I quickly went out and opened the cupboard.
The dress was perfect, according to my size. I don't know how they managed to know my size.
I looked at myself in the mirror and actually liked my face without any makeup. But yesterday, Emma insisted I try some on—she wanted me to experiment with a change in my style. I couldn't even identify myself yesterday.
I stepped outside and went down. The floor was quiet, it smelled like a woody scent. I sat down on the chair as Lisa came out, and brought breakfast.
I ate it silently. I was never a prickly eater so I eat everything that was served to me on my plate.
Afterwards, I went out and booked a taxi to the office.
When I reached my building, I immediately rushed to the office, greeting everybody along the way. They smiled and greeted me back, but I didn't have time to talk.
The employees here were generally friendly, and helpful except for a few who seemed jealous of me. I was the daughter of the boss’s friend and had secured a position in a company most people could only dream of working for. Peter’s company was one of the largest in the country, and I was the youngest employee there.
When I first arrived here, I didn't know much, so some employees tried to take advantage of that, they tried to bully me by using their position, but with time I adjusted myself, learned, and found my footing in the company.
I went inside the elevator and reached the top floor, which was only designed according to Mr Peter’s preference. He was always a private person and didn't like anybody invading his private space. I was the only one who was allowed on the floor, as well as some of his friends.
I tapped the password in the elevator and the gate opened.
I went out, going towards his office.
Nervousness… anxiety..gripped me tightly. I clenched my fingers tightly and knocked on his door. I don't want to face him at this point of time, but I need to.
There was no voice from the inside. I knocked once again and there was no answer. I opened the gate and went inside.
The cabin was dark, and the temperature was low. I looked around but there was no one. I went inside, looking around.
Suddenly the lights turned on. I looked back and saw my mother standing before me.
“Mom, What are you doing here?”
