After a momentary pause, Leandro’s piercing gaze again landed on Ginevra, sending a surge of adrenaline through her veins. She was used to maintaining her composure in the face of such, but this unexpected encounter with him had caught her off guard, more like she would never escape this man no matter where she was, which drove her to feel exposed and vulnerable. She swallowed hard, desperately trying to regain her composure. “Sir, Vinci” The manager states as he reached closer. Leandro’s eyes briefly flickered towards Ginevra before he turned his attention to the man. "To what do I owe this unexpected visit, sir?" But he couldn't help but to have noticed the mafia’s eyes on Ginevra. "I happened to be in the area, and I thought I'd drop by to ensure everything is running smoothly." His eyes then drifted back to Ginevra, studying her intently, causing her to instinctively tense up. The manager, picking up on Vinci's subtle interest, couldn't help but chuckle slightly. "Ah, sir, this is Valentina," he replied, gesturing toward Ginevra and she mentally cursed him. Why would he go on and introduce her like she was begging for it? "She's a guest who happened to find her way to our VIP section tonight." Leandro’s eyes locked with Ginevra's as he repeated her chosen name, his eyes narrowing slightly. He observed her carefully, trying to decipher her true purpose in the place, or perhaps why she wasn't in Porto. But Ginevra forced a smile that masked the nervousness bubbling beneath the surface. The unexpected meeting was one thing, but her remaining in check was another, and one she must keep no matter the circumstance. A smirk played faintly on Leandro’s lips as the syllables of her masked name rolled off his tongue with a mix of curiosity and intrigue. “Valentina," he murmured, his voice laced with a touch of amusement. He took a step closer, “s**t” Ginevra mentally cursed. But his gaze never left her face. She felt a shiver run down her spine as his presence seemed to envelop her. The weight of his gaze caused her to question the intricacies of her double life. The manager, eager to ensure a smooth encounter, politely interjected, "Is there anything I can assist you with, sir?" His question cracked through the tension– which Ginevra may have deeply appreciated. Leandro’s attention momentarily shifted from Ginevra to the manager as he considered the question. After a moment of silence, he nodded. "No, everything seems to be in order." He then turned his gaze back to Ginevra, his eyes lingering for a brief moment longer. "Enjoy your evening, Valentina." The name came off his lips just like before, nothing in his tone changing, but she saw something in his eyes—through his eyes. Resolve. And just a hint of anger. That was her undoing. She could think of so many reasons he would be angry, but somehow the anger she detected seemed to be different. And that scared her. Ginevra nodded in acknowledgement, her heart pounding in her chest as Vinci finally tore his gaze away. She was supposed to be thankful and relieved but she was not– if anything she was more afraid. She watched as he exchanged a few more words with the manager before fading into the crowd, leaving behind an atmosphere tinged with uncertainty. As the manager settled back into his seat, he glanced at Ginevra in admiration and caution. "You certainly caught the boss's attention," he remarked, more like regard and a hint of warning. Ginevra managed a tight-lipped smile, her mind racing with thoughts of what Leandro could be thinking, or probably his moves. "It seems so," she replied, her voice slightly betraying a trace of unease despite her best efforts to maintain her facade. And so she turned her gaze to him after placing down the wine glass, her voice filled with a sense of urgency. "I'm sorry, but I must leave now." The man’s eyes dilated in surprise. "Why so suddenly?” His head tilted slightly “You seemed to be enjoying yourself. Is something the matter?" But Ginevra forced a smile, trying to conceal her agitation. "Oh, no, everything was delightful. I had a great time with you," she replied, her voice filled with warmth and reassurance. "But something unexpected has come up, and I really need to go. It's nothing personal, I promise." she smiled. The manager's brow furrowed, concern etching his face as he sense the underlying tension in Ginevra's voice. "If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know.” She shook her head, her eyes pleading with the manager. "Thank you for your kindness, but I can handle it. I'll be fine. I just need to go." Reluctantly, the man nodded, understanding the urgency in her eyes. "Alright, if you're sure. See you next time, Valentina." Like she would ever return here! Ginevra nodded quickly, her heart pounding in her chest as she instantly distanced herself from the man, knowing he was also connected to Leandro's network. This must be the worst of them nights. How can the one club she decided to go belong to the one man she needed to stay away from? But still, regardless, it turned out to be new information. Navigating through the crowded club, Ginevra scanned the faces anxiously, her eyes desperately searching for Chiara's familiar features. But time seemed to stretch infinitely as she weaved through the maze of dancing bodies and dimly lit corners. Each passing second increased her anxiety, her desperation mounting. Ginevra's breath caught in her throat as she pushed open the door to a room, the irresistible sound of moans shrouding her senses. And then, the sight that greeted her shattered her expectations—a tableau of lust unfolding before her eyes. Chiara, lost in pleasure, was tangled with a man, his face buried between her elegant legs eagerly exploring the depths of her pleasure. With Chiara perched on the edge of a table, her head thrown back while her body trembled like a heady cocktail– their intimate romance... exposed for Ginevra to witness. A gasp escaped her lips before the sound of the door closing halted both Chiara and the man. “s**t!” Chiara exclaimed pushing the man a little apart, who happens to be the same man from earlier. But then Ginevra paid less attention, not caring about the situation. "We need to leave, now" she demanded, her words cutting through the haze. Chiara's face flushed with embarrassment as she quickly untangled herself from the man, her voice filled with urgency and remorse. "I-I'm so sorry," she stammered, glancing back at the man with a mix of regret and desire– like she wanted him but... “We'll continue this another time, I promise." The man, a hint of disappointment in his eyes, nodded understandingly. "Sure, love. We'll pick up where we left off," he smirked. Without exchanging further words, Ginevra and Chiara hurriedly left the room. The deafening music and pulsating atmosphere engulfed them as they pushed through the crowd, their movements fueled by a shared sense of urgency. Amidst the chaos, Chiara couldn't contain her curiosity any longer. Her voice rose above the blaring music, loud and insistent, as they manoeuvred their way through the sea of bodies. "What happened, Ginevra?" Chiara called out, her voice carrying a mix of confusion and concern. "Why the sudden need to leave?" Ginevra glanced at Chiara, her eyes reflecting a whirlwind of emotions. She knew Chiara deserved an explanation, but it was difficult to find the right words amidst the overwhelming noise. She squeezed Chiara's hand tightly, reassuring her with a firm grip. “I'll explain everything once we get home. It's not the right time or place to discuss it." Chiara's brows furrowed, her curiosity now piqued even further and just as they withdrew a little from the club's chaotic embrace, her voice resonated with insistence. "Gin, I need to know. What's going on? Did something happen? Did...” Her words trailed off, leaving the rest unspoken yet hanging heavily in the air. Ginevra opened her mouth to respond, ready to provide some answers, when their conversation was abruptly interrupted by the appearance of Alonzo. Without uttering a word, he locked eyes with Ginevra, a silent request for her presence. And then “Come with me," he requested in a low, authoritative tone. Ginevra's eyes flickered to Chiara’s confused face. "I'm not leaving my friend," she asserted, her voice firm and unwavering. Alonzo's eyes narrowed, contemplating Ginevra's words. After a moment's pause, he acquiesced. "Do as you please," he conceded, his tone a bit nonchalant yet firm. Chiara, now more bewildered than ever, looked to Ginevra for answers. "Who is he?" she questioned, her voice filled with both curiosity and concern than before. Ginevra’s gaze fixed on Alonzo responded with a quick explanation. "He's a friend of mine," she said, her voice hushed but resolute. "Don't worry” With a mixture of trepidation, Chiara nodded, accepting Ginevra's words. Together, they trailed behind Alonzo as he led them through the throng of club-goers, finally emerging into the cool night air. Amidst the pulsating energy of the night, their destination came into view—a line of three vehicles parked a short distance from the club. Two sleek SUVs flanked a long, dark sedan that exuded an air of authority and power. Alonzo, standing by the sedan, opened the door with a gesture, his expression betraying neither friendliness nor hostility. "Get in," he directed Ginevra, his voice calm yet laced with an underlying air of command. Yet Ginevra hesitated, her gaze shifting between Alonzo and Chiara. She voiced her concern, her tone firm. "What about my friend?” “I will ensure she gets home safely," he stated, his tone measured but sincere. Turning to Chiara, Ginevra sought her approval. In response, Chiara met her gaze and nodded a go-ahead, a seemingly knowing look on her face that almost made Ginevra roll her eyes in irritation. What was going on inside her mind? She better not be thinking there was a thing going on other than what it really was. With a deep breath, Ginevra mustered her courage and stepped into the sleek, long car. Just as she cautiously slid into the car, her eyes were drawn to Leandro, who sat opposite her, his leg casually crossed. His gaze was ostensibly fixed on the tablet in his hands, his fingers gliding across the screen, while the dim glow reflected off his sharp features. The car permeated with an air of tension– was made all the more perceptible by the sight before her. His coat lay ominously on the seat beside him and then her gaze flickered to the elegant bottle of champagne set aside, along with a crystal glass, its contents barely reaching the half-full mark. She swallowed nervously, her mouth suddenly dry. Leandro's presence loomed large, although he wasn't gazing at her, yet his commanding aura filled the confined space– but then, her mind spiked. She carefully reached for her phone, trying not to betray her quest, and instantly she sent a message to Chiara, but just as she lightly squeezed her phone in her hand, Leandro's eyes flicked up from his tablet, his gaze piercing through her like a predator sizing up its prey.
