Leandro's heart skipped a beat as he locked eyes with the stunning lady standing before him. Venere - the name rolled off his tongue with familiarity, yet it had been years since they had last met. A faint smirk tugged at the corners of his lips as he observed her tilt her wine glass ever so slightly in acknowledgement of her name. As the daughter of another mafia, Venere was no stranger to the world of organized crime. She had grown up in the same circles as Leandro, and they had formed a close bond over the years. However, their paths had diverged, and it had been over four years since they last saw each other which may have caused the surprise on Leandro. Leandro's gaze lingered on her for a moment longer and then he greeted her with a charming compliment, “You look dashing” he said with a smooth, charming tone. “I must admit, I didn't expect to see you here tonight.” Venere's eyes sparkled with amusement at Leandro's remark. “Well, I couldn't resist the opportunity to see you in your element,” she replied, her voice laced with a hint of playfulness. “Are you back for good?” Leandro asked, his curiosity getting the better of him. Venere's lips curved into a small smile. "Yes, I'm back for good," she confirmed, her voice filled with determination. "My father needed me to handle some business around here, and I couldn't say no to him." Apprehending the importance of family, and how f*****g selfish they could be most times– he nodded in acknowledgement "I see," he said, his gaze never leaving hers. "Well, I'm glad you're back. Things have been quiet without you around." Venere's smile grew wider. "I'm sure you've managed just fine without me," she teased. Leandro chuckled softly. "Perhaps, but it's always nice to have a familiar face around. Especially one as lovely as yours," he added, his tone flirtatious. Venere smirked at the compliment. "You always know how to charm a lady," she said, playfully rolling her eyes. Leandro grinned. "I learned from the best," he replied, raising his wine glass in a toast. "To old friends and new beginnings." The clinking of glasses was interrupted by the approach of a stern figure. Venere greeted the old mafia with respect, knowing that he was a senior member of their organization. The old man's smile was polite but cold, and Leandro wondered if there was something more significant that had led his father to interrupt their conversation. "Welcome, Venere Pallas. It's been a while," the old mafia said in his deep voice. "It would be nice to have dinner with you sometime and catch up on old times." Venere nodded, "I would be honoured, sir." Porzio turned to his son with a curt nod. “I guess it's time my granddaughter plays for us all," he said with a firm tone, implying that there was no room for discussion. Though it wasn't as if Leandro planned to. The old man can have it his way for now. Although Leandro wasn't quite pleased with his father's decision, he knew better than to challenge it in front of their guests. He forced a smile and nodded in agreement, trying to ignore the knot in his stomach. It wasn't like Porzio was going to betroth his daughter to another mafia family without his permission. That was one thing Leandro wouldn't sit and watch. But for now, he had to focus on keeping up appearances, since the child loves playing. At the side of the grand piano, Porzio soon stood with Lucetta. "She has grown," Venere complimented, her eyes trained on the little girl as Porzio helped her to settle by the piano. Leandro nodded in agreement, a soft smile playing at the corners of his lips. If anything, he was proud to have her. "Yes, she has," he replied, casting a bit of a neutral look towards his daughter. Porzio stood by the grand piano, his hand on his granddaughter's small shoulder, guiding her to sit on the bench. The distinguished guests, including Venere and Leandro, soon turned their attention to Lucetta. As she began to play, the room fell silent, captivated by the sweet melody emanating from the piano. Her small fingers danced across the ivory keys, playing a soft and delicate tune that filled the room. The notes drifted and swirled, enveloping the guests in a warm embrace, and for a moment, the tension that had been lingering in the air dissipated. As the song progressed, the guests were completely entranced by the child's talent. They raised their wine glasses, toasting to her skill, and murmured words of praise. Venere's gaze flickered towards Leandro, and she couldn't help but notice how much he had changed since they last saw each other. That darkness– it hasn't all cleared but it wasn't as thick as it was– she smirked. "I can tell her eyes look more like yours," Venere remarked, breaking the silence. A ghost smile crossed his face at the compliment. "She takes after her mother in many ways," he replied, his voice tinged with fondness. But then he felt a pang of guilt– a mild feeling. He made his way towards his daughter's side just as the performance ended, the room erupted into applause. With a proud smile, he placed a gentle hand on her shoulder and congratulated her on a job well done. "Well done, sweetheart. You played beautifully," he said in a low, husky voice that only she could hear. A hint of fatherly pride. As the room settled into a murmur, Porzio exchanged greetings with a few of the powerful guests, proudly introducing his grandchildren to them. Leandro watched from a distance, although he was in a conversation with a few people on his side, his attention was fixed on his children. The intention of his father couldn't be more obvious. “That was amazing, both of you," Leandro said to them both as he finally took them to the car. Lucetta beamed with pride as she replied, "Thank you, Daddy." Leandro then turned to Greco, their escort, "Make sure they get home safely." "Of course, sir," Greco replied with a respectful nod. “Hey, big guy,” He said as his son was about to enter and then he winked at him and then a curt nod. Leandro watched as the car pulled away from the front court. Just then, Venere's voice came from behind, causing him to turn. "You seem a bit uneasy," she said, her eyes trained on him with concern. If that's what it was. Leandro flashed a quick smile at Venere. He remained composed, masking any indication of unease. "Just taking care of family, Venere," he replied smoothly, his voice steady. Venere raised an eyebrow, unconvinced by his response. "Family, you say? Care to elaborate?" Leandro gave her a small smile. "You know how it is, Venere. The less said, the better." “Well,” Venere said as she leaned in closer to Leandro, a smile spreading across her face. "It's been too long, Leandro. We should catch up like old times," she said, her voice filled with nostalgia. Leandro was about to respond when his cell phone rang, interrupting their conversation. “Excuse,” He requested, and then his expression shifted subtly as his eyes scanned the caller ID. "I apologize,” he said with a hand gesture, before excusing himself with a nod and stepping away to take the call. Venere nodded, a flicker of curiosity in her eyes. She had known Leandro for a long time, there was always an air of mystery around him, a sense that he had a world beyond what he showed to the outside. But this indistinct look wasn't one she was familiar with. After a brief conversation, Leandro ended the call and turned back to Venere. "I'm sorry. I regret that our conversation must come to an end, but I have pressing matters to attend to," he said, yet his words dripped with charm. "Let's plan to meet again soon, and perhaps we can catch up on old times just as you suggested." Venere nodded, her smile faltering slightly. “Of course, Leandro," she said with a smile. "It was lovely seeing you again." With a nod of his head, he bid farewell to Venere before turning to signal Alonzo, who had been standing nearby and began to make his way towards his car.
