Episode Thirty-four

Ginevra sighed, setting the spoon down on the counter, and walked towards the door. Chiara's curious eyes followed her every move, her own anticipation growing with each passing second. One thing was certain, it can never be the man from last night. As Ginevra reached the door and swung it open, a young man stood before her, holding a package wrapped in brown paper. He was dressed in a crisp uniform, a courier badge displayed on his chest. His eyes met Ginevra's. "Afternoon." The male greeted curtly. "It's still morning," Ginevra mentioned watching him skeptically. "Oh, yeah, sorry about that," he said quickly. "I've got a package for you," he announced, his voice measured. "I never requested one." She said, leaning by the door. "Uhm. Well, I don't know about that. No sender's name was provided. Just asked me to deliver it to this address. And no name." Ginevra furrowed her brow, but then, there were many possibilities of who could use this method, perhaps someone from the FBI. She reached out to take the package, her fingers gently grasping the edges of the brown paper. "No sender's name?" she asked, her voice laced with a faint confusion. The young man shrugged, his eyes scanning Ginevra's face for any sign of recognition. "Yeah, it's a bit odd, I know. But hey, I'm just here to deliver the goods. Hope you enjoy whatever's inside." Ginevra gave a slow nod. "Thank you," she murmured. It was odd, to say the least, but nothing could be more odd than her plight. It will only take a matter of seconds to find out who sent the package. That's for sure. Closing the door, Ginevra turned to face Chiara, who was practically bursting with curiosity. "Well, well, Gin. What's in the package? Any hints?" Chiara asked, her eyes wide with anticipation as she held up the already dished pasta. Ginevra smirked as she made her way to the table in the living space, but then changed her course to her bedroom. "Perhaps we should find out," she replied. If the package was sent by any of the FBI it was better she goes about the opening in the comfort of her bedroom away from Leandro’s prying eyes. Ginevra's curiosity grew with each passing second as she stared at the unmarked package on the bed. There was a tangible feeling of anticipation in the room, and even Chiara's usually brazen behavior was replaced with a sense of calmness. “What if it's an explosive?” Chiara chimed running her hand across her hair. The plate of pasta already forgotten on the kitchen counter. “Then I guess I made quite an impression.” Ginevra joked with a smirk visible on her lips even though the thought had crossed her mind. Slowly, she removed the lid of the package, revealing a bundle of tissue paper nestled within. As she peeled back the layers, her eyes widened. A cascade of fabric spilled out, revealing an elegant evening gown, the color of the midnight sky, adorned with intricate beading and delicate lace. Beside the dress, lay a pair of shimmering jewel earrings and a matching necklace that sparkled in the light of the room. And tucked in between the folds of the dress was a pair of stunning stiletto heels that perfectly complemented the ensemble. It was indeed not in correspondence with every possibility she had thought while opening the package. A dress? This must be a joke. And by who? Chiara's breath caught in her throat as she took in the breathtaking sight. "Gin, who in the world would send you such a lavish package? And without a sender's name, no less," she exclaimed, her voice tinged in awe and curiosity. “Girl!...” Ginevra's eyes remained fixed on the ensemble before her trying to figure out what was happening. She gingerly picked up the items, feeling their luxurious textures and marveling at the attention to detail. "I have no idea, Chiara," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "But whoever sent this certainly knows my taste." Just as they were both about to give up on finding any clue to the sender's identity, Ginevra noticed a slip of paper nestled among the folds of tissue paper. Carefully unfolding it, she read a single line, written in elegant handwriting: "For the woman who captivates my dreams." Chiara's eyes widened, her lips parting in surprise. "Captivates dreams?" she repeated, her voice filled with intrigue. "Gin, this is getting even more interesting. Who could possibly be so entranced by you?" Ginevra's gaze flickered towards Chiara, in her eyes was a combination of confusion and curiosity. "I wish I knew, Chiara. This is unlike anything I've experienced before. But I must admit, it's intriguing, and yet can't seem to know who." then she slightly turned. "Perhaps there was a mistake." Chiara made a swift gesture, immediately dismissing Ginevra’s words. Her voice, a playful melody, resonated through the room as she shook her head. It was more like Ginevra to have a thought like that about such an enigmatic package. “Oh, my dear Gin," she chimed, a note of exasperation lacing her words. "Don't be so quick to brush this off. You can't deny the effect you have on people. Maybe check the details... There must be a clue." Ginevra, torn between skepticism and curiosity, couldn't help but be drawn into Chiara's contagious enthusiasm. With a hint of trepidation, she reached for the card again and turned the slip of paper over, revealing a single contact line elegantly inscribed on its surface. “You must be kidding me,” Ginevra mumbled. “Haa. Mystery solved.” Chiara exclaimed. Without hesitation, Ginevra turned and reached for her phone. “Anyone in mind?” Chiara asked as she watched Ginevra return. “Still none.” She says dialing the contact number. The phone rang for a moment, and just when she thought it might go to voicemail, a familiar voice greeted her on the other end. "Hello?" the voice said, unmistakably Gerardo's. Ginevra froze, she could swear her heart skipped a beat. Chiara gave her a look of ‘who?’ but then she just shook her head and shifted. "Gerardo?" Ginevra's voice escaped in a fragile whisper. Gerardo's voice, like a velvet whisper, caressed Ginevra's ear. "Do you like the dress?" he asked, his tone carrying a subtle undercurrent of anticipation. Fuck. Why didn't she even think of him to be the sender? Even though she isn't used to him, this was a thing he could pull off just to demonstrate how persuasive he could be. Ginevra hesitated, her mind spinning with a whirlwind of emotions and questions. Something about Gerardo's unexpected presence unsettled her. She couldn't simply ignore the warning signs that flickered like cautionary flames in her mind. "What is your motive, Gerardo? What are you playing at?" Ginevra's voice rose firmly, her words laced with a mix of suspicion and irritation. She knew all too well the world he belonged to—the shadows and secrets that painted his life as a mafia boss. Why would he go through the trouble of sending her such an extravagant gift? Especially after finding out about Leandro. A faint chuckle, tinged with both amusement and something more enigmatic, echoed through the phone. "My dear, sometimes it's best not to overthink every gesture. Consider it a gift from the one you despise," Gerardo replied, his voice carrying a hint of melancholy. "Accept it as a token of reconciliation, perhaps a glimpse of my apology." She glanced at Chiara who was already having her time with the pasta. "I haven't agreed to your dinner proposal, Gerardo," Ginevra countered, her voice steady but tinged with defiance. "What do you expect from me?" A moment of silence hung in the air, pregnant with unspoken interest, and then, Gerardo's voice, a tantalizing whisper, seeped through the phone line, weaving its way into the very core of Ginevra's being. "What must I do to earn your acceptance?" Gerardo's words dripped with a potent blend of desire and determination, tempting Ginevra to reconsider her stance. The gravity of Gerardo's proposition tugged at the frayed edges of her resolve. Perhaps she could use the opportunity to uncover more about Leandro instead of sitting in the apartment all day and going through the system of her life she had once gone through. She weighed the risks and rewards, contemplating her decision. A dinner–an opportunity to get more information on the organization. The faster she gets to solve her mission, the faster she gets to return to her normal life. From what she has witnessed, if there was someone who knew Leandro more, it was Gerardo. "Dinner it is then." She replied, her voice firm but tinged with a hint of curiosity. "But let's make one thing clear, Gerardo. This doesn't change anything. It's merely a means to an end." Gerardo's voice held a note of satisfaction. "Of course, sweetheart. We shall keep our intentions in perspective. I'll send a driver to pick you up this evening. Have the dress on." and with that, the call came to an end. Ginevra sighed before turning to Chiara, who had just finished her meal and was eagerly waiting for an update. Chiara lifted a brow but didn't voice out the question. In the depths of the night, shrouded in an aura of secrecy, Leandro’s formidable figure of power emerged from the shadows dressed in a sleek black four-piece suit that spoke volumes of his authority. A long, ebony coat draped over his shoulders, billowing behind him like a cloak of enigma. His mere presence commanded reverence, with an air of danger encircling him like an invisible halo. Silently, like a dark symphony in motion, Leandro was flanked by a select few of his most trusted guards. They moved with an intimidating grace, their expressions concealed beneath hardened masks of stoicism. The nocturnal unfolded by the port, where a sleek speedboat awaited their arrival. Its sleek black exterior mirrored Leandro's own sartorial elegance. With calculated precision, Leandro and Alonzo got into the boat with a few of the guards. The sound of the engine's growl and the boat severed the stillness of the water, it left behind a trail of frothy whispers, echoing the silence of the night. The boat surged forward, slicing through the ink-black waves, and after a while, they approached their destination, the outline of a peculiar structure materialized on the water's surface. A structure seemingly suspended above the water. Leandro, with Alonzo ever watchful at his side, stepped onto the solid ground, leaving behind the guards who remained vigilant within the boat’s confines.
