Ginevra stood frozen, her spatula poised mid-air as the sound of the doorbell reverberated through the air. The early morning tranquility shattered, leaving her on edge. She glanced at the clock, questioning who could possibly be ringing her doorbell at this hour. Her mind raced with possibilities, dismissing the idea that it could be another delivery or even Leandro.
Gerardo may have figured out her apartment but he wouldn't just show up–would he?
Approaching the door cautiously, Ginevra hesitated with her hand hovering over the lock. Her hazel eyes searched for any clues or hints as to who could be standing on the other side.
Finally, with a careful breath, she unlocked the door and pulled it open—revealing Leandro standing there, his commanding presence filling the doorway.
Ginevra's surprise was evident on her face, but she quickly composed herself. "Morning," Leandro greeted in his low, yet authoritative voice. She swallowed, her lips twitching into a faint nod as she silently acknowledged his presence.
Shifting to the side, Ginevra allowed Leandro to enter, her thoughts racing to comprehend his unexpected visit. If he were anyone else, she might have slammed the door in his face for not keeping his word. But this was a different situation entirely.
What bullshit! It wasn't like being present now will wipe away the fact that he failed to come the previous day.
And as Leandro stepped inside, his gaze soon fixated on Ginevra, his eyes wandering from her head to toe. His expression remained unchanged, leaving her captivated and wondering what thoughts churned in his enigmatic mind. She couldn't help but feel a pang of anxiety, uncertain if his intense scrutiny signaled anger or curiosity.
But she couldn't discern any reason for him to be mad; if anyone had a right to be angry, it was her, not him. After all, he was the one who is careless enough to not respect a word of his.
But then, she couldn't act mad as she was bound to him until her mission was concluded, an arrangement she had now come to accept with bitter resignation.
“I didn't know you were coming," Ginevra muttered, her voice laced with surprise and suspicion. She met his gaze as his eyes returned to her face, trying to decipher the true reason for his unannounced arrival.
Leandro lifted a single brow, his gesture conveying a mix of amusement and intrigue, though somehow, his face still appeared uninvolved, faint it may be, but it was there. "I distinctly remember mentioning it to you," he responded, his voice carrying a touch of firmness, yet, it carried a calculated calmness.
What a bullshit. Does he take her as a child or what?
A faint bitter sarcasm tinged Ginevra's response, her words carrying an underlying frustration. “That I remembered was supposedly yesterday." Ginevra retorted, "Seems like you failed somehow," Her voice dripped with subtle sarcasm and a tinge of her wry
Though her words lacked overt aggression, the underlying tone revealed a lingering frustration.
Leandro's brow remained lifted, his eyes locked with hers, as a brief pause settled between them in response to Ginevra's bitter remark.
"I did come," he revealed, his voice low and tinged with a hint of consideration. "But you were already asleep." Leandro's admission hung in the air, "I didn't want to cause you any worries by waking you up from your seemingly peaceful sleep."
Ginevra's gaze narrowed, the realization dawning upon her. That explained the presence of the blanket draped over her. It all made sense now—but then why would he go all the way to cover her up?
Leandro's attention shifted to the kitchen, his gaze lingering on the unfinished task on the kitchen counter. "Have you already had breakfast?" he inquired, a subtle shift in his tone indicating a shift in the conversation.
“Well, that's what I was just about to prepare," Ginevra replied.
Leandro smoothly shifted away, removing his coat and laying it on the edge of the couch. With calculated grace, he turned his attention back to Ginevra. "Seems I was right on time," he stated, a hint of satisfaction coloring his words. He locked eyes with her once again and added, "It seems you will be making for two since I also haven't had mine.”
Ginevra's gaze lingered on him, studying him for a moment before she spoke, her voice carrying a hint of nonchalance. "Just pancakes and some smoothies, nothing extravagant like what you're accustomed to, or what your army of servants would prepare for you."
Leandro's lips curled into a smirk, a soft chuckle escaping him. "It has been a while since I've had such a simple combination," he admitted, tilting his head slightly. "So, what do you say?" His question hung in the air, laced with an underlying challenge.
A faint chuckle escaped Ginevra's lips as she found herself slightly amused by his words. Who was this man, she wondered, with his confident demeanor and his frequent change of character?
With a nod, Ginevra began to make her way towards the kitchen, her footsteps purposeful. She muttered under her breath, "Not a bad idea."
Leandro let out a quiet scoff, his head lowering as his gaze shifted downwards, a self-satisfied smile playing on his lips. It was a bit entertaining to witness Ginevra feeling in charge.
Ginevra deftly finished cooking the pancakes, expertly flipping them onto a plate and placing it before Leandro. The aroma of freshly cooked pancakes filled the air, enticing Leandro's senses as he settled into the chair opposite her. The golden-brown pancakes adorned with juicy strawberries and drizzled with honey looked enticingly delicious. However, it was the enigmatic green smoothie that captured his attention.
"Here you go," she said, her voice steady and composed. "Pancakes with a touch of strawberries and honey, and a refreshing smoothie," she said leaning against the counter.
Leandro's gaze flickered between the mouthwatering pancake and the suspiciously too-green smoothie. Though he had observed Ginevra's every move while she prepared the meal, he couldn't help but feel a slight trepidation as he wondered why the concoction looked overly green.
Ginevra's raised eyebrow conveyed her curiosity, a playful challenge evident in her eyes. "Afraid of a common smoothie?" she questioned, her voice laced with a mixture of amusement and intrigue. "Quite peculiar coming from Leandro Vinci.”
Leandro's lips curved into a wry smile, a hint of vulnerability shining through his confident demeanor. "It's not fear," he retorted, his tone betraying a touch of defensiveness. "But that shade of green is rather...unconventional. Is this what all smoothies are supposed to resemble? It appears to be a daring proposition."
Ginevra's laughter danced in the air, an enchanting melody that resonated with a touch of mischief. "Not all smoothies boast such vibrant colors," she explained, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. "Consider it an invitation to embrace novelty. Fear not, it won't overwhelm your senses."
Ginevra extended an invitation, her voice laced with a daring challenge. "Go ahead, taste it and see," she urged, her eyes gleaming with curiosity. Leandro hesitated for a moment, a flicker of uncertainty crossing his features. With a calm resolve, he reached for the glass, bringing it to his lips.
The room fell into a hushed stillness as Leandro took a sip, his gaze locked with Ginevra's piercing stare. The seconds stretched into eternity as Ginevra patiently awaited his reaction, her brow lightly raised in anticipation. The weight of his judgment lingered in the air.
Swallowing slowly, Leandro's grip on the glass loosened, and his lips twitched involuntarily. "It's...nice," he finally uttered, his voice betraying a hint of restraint.
Ginevra's brows furrowed slightly, a subtle indication of her skepticism. A faint smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she prodded further, her voice laced with gentle amusement. "When did you learn to give remarks that contradict what you truly want to say?"
Leandro's gaze bore into hers, his expression narrowly unreadable, and suddenly, silence enveloped them, thick with surfacing emotions.
"It's written in your eyes, you know," Ginevra continued, her tone tender yet perceptive. "You don't have to pretend to like it."
Leandro's insistence was met with a knowing gaze. His admission was hesitant yet genuine, "I do like it, Ginevra. It's just... it's the first time I'm trying something like this."
