Cautiously, Ginevra placed Leandro's phone back on the table, making sure it was in the same position as before while her heart raced with the weight of being caught. She quickly resumed her position, pretending to be engrossed in her dessert as she heard the faint sound of Leandro's footsteps approaching.
Leandro reentered the room, his expression composed as he took his seat once again. Ginevra forced a smile, trying to hide her unease. "Feeling better?" she asked, her voice gentle yet tinged with curiosity.
Leandro nodded, though there was a hint of distraction in his response. "Yes, thank you," he replied, his gaze momentarily flickering to his phone before returning to Ginevra. "I apologize for the interruption earlier."
Ginevra met his gaze, her eyes reflecting a combination of concern and a hint of warmth. She maintained her undercover persona, hiding the turmoil of conflicting emotions that swirled within her.
Leandro's eyes briefly flickered to his phone on the table, but he didn't comment on its placement which relieved the growing lump in her throat. Ginevra offered him a polite smile, hoping her quick action hadn't aroused any suspicion.
"Everything alright?" she inquired casually, her voice steady despite the lingering tension in the air and Leandro reached for his wine.
A faint smile graced his lips. "Yes, everything is fine," he assured her, his tone calm and collected.
Relieved by his response, Ginevra focused on the dinner once again, delicately indulging in the remaining bites of her dessert.
Leandro took a sip of his wine, relishing its flavor as a mischievous smirk tugged at the corners of his lips. It was as if a sudden realization had dawned upon him, something that brought a glimmer of amusement to his eyes.
Setting his wine glass back on the table with a deliberate grace, Leandro reached into his coat pocket and retrieved a small, intricately designed box. Ginevra's attention was immediately captivated. She set aside her half-eaten dessert, her eyes fixed on Leandro, watching his every move with an intensity that matched her curiosity.
Leandro's fingers deftly opened the box, revealing a breathtaking diamond necklace nestled within. The soft gleam of the precious gems caught the ambient light.
With measured steps, Leandro approached Ginevra from behind, his gaze fixed on her expectant face and without a word, Leandro carefully lifted the necklace from its cushioned enclosure, his fingers deftly maneuvering the delicate piece. He moved behind Ginevra, his presence both commanding and gentle, and gracefully secured the necklace around her neck.
The cool touch of the diamonds against her skin sent a shiver of anticipation down Ginevra's spine. She reached up to touch the necklace, her fingers tracing its exquisite craftsmanship, feeling its weight settle against her collarbone.
Leandro stepped back, admiring the necklace adorning Ginevra's neck. A satisfied smile played on his lips, his eyes filled with a mixture of pride and affection. He had chosen this gift with care, knowing how much she appreciated fine jewelry.
Ginevra turned to face Leandro, her eyes shining with gratitude and wonder. "It's absolutely stunning," she whispered, her voice filled with genuine admiration.
Leandro's smile widened, his gaze locked with Ginevra's. "I'm glad you like it," he said, his voice filled with sincerity.
She felt a pang of guilt at his word but brushed it off with a forced smile. "I... I don't know what to say," she stammered, trying to maintain her composure. "It's incredibly generous of you."
Leandro reached out, gently caressing her cheek with his hand. "You don't need to say anything," he murmured, his voice laced with a tenderness that sent conflicting emotions surging through Ginevra.
As their eyes locked, a mixture of emotions swirled within her. There was the duty-driven agent, determined to bring him to justice, but there was also a part of her that found herself drawn to his charm and the complexities of their relationship. And if she could change who she was at this moment, she would.
Ginevra withdrew her gaze, severing the connection between them. She knew she couldn't afford to let her emotions cloud her judgment. Her undercover mission was paramount, and she had to stay focused.
"Thank you," she repeated, her voice resolute. "But I must admit, the gift took me by surprise. It's unexpected, to say the least."
Leandro resumed his seat, and his words held a hint of genuine concern. "I didn't mean to startle you that much," he offered, his tone softer than before.
Ginevra's eyes flickered at him before she took a bite from the dessert, trying her best not to out a reason behind his current generosity and behavior.
Leandro's gaze shifted, and he cleared his throat before speaking. "I would be absent for a few days," he suddenly said, causing Ginevra to look up at him, intrigued by the unexpected announcement. "About a week, actually. I have to attend to a crucial business proposal and various matters that require my immediate attention."
Ginevra's eyes widened slightly, her curiosity growing at his disclosure. She wondered about the nature of his business proposal and the significance of his absence. And more, why he had decided to tell her about it? However, she quickly masked her intrigue and nodded, acknowledging his words.
"Oh," she replied, her voice composed. "I hope your business proposal goes smoothly."
The dinner finally came to an end, and Leandro stood from his seat, signaling his departure. He fixed his gaze on Ginevra, a mix of sincerity and authority in his eyes. "Thank you for the evening." he acknowledged.
"You don't have to thank me for that," Ginevra said in a gentle whisper.
"If anything arises," he stated firmly. "Anything at all. Don't hesitate to call my line."
Ginevra nodded, "Sure I will."
Ginevra stepped out onto her balcony, a glass of drink in her hand, as the city lights twinkled below. She took a deep breath, the cool night air invigorating her senses. Her mind swirling with conflicting thoughts. The evening with Leandro had left her questioning the path she had chosen. Was she doing the right thing? Was she betraying the trust he had unknowingly placed in her?
As she gazed out at the city lights, a heaviness settled in her chest. The allure of the dangerous world she had immersed herself in was beginning to take its toll. The line between duty and personal connection blurred, and Ginevra found herself grappling with the consequences of her actions.
The weight of responsibility pressed upon her, urging her to make the call she knew she must as she took another sip from her drink.
With a deep breath, Ginevra dialed Dario's number, steeling herself for the conversation ahead. This was her job, her mission to bring down the criminal empire that threatened the safety of countless lives. She couldn't let personal doubts sway her from her purpose.
A few rings and Dario answered the call, his voice brimming with anticipation, Ginevra wasted no time.
"Hey,"
"Hey, it's been a while, how are you doing?" Dario's voice came through.
Ginevra sighed. "Just the usual. Making process." She took another sip of the drink. "Dario, I have information about a shipment," she began, her voice low and a bit nonchalant as she passed the information. "I had managed to get a glimpse of Leandro's phone, and I found some valuable information."
Dario's tone sharpened with interest. "Been waiting for a while now," Dario admitted. "I'm all ears. Tell me everything, Gin."
"He's involved in a major shipping operation," Ginevra revealed, her words punctuated by the clinking of ice in her glass. "I couldn't access all the details, but I do know the port where the shipment is intended to arrive. Said to be a shipment from...Moretti. A sort of drug I haven't heard of before, the container has "GSS-XXXX" as its code."
She leaned her arms against the rail. "I will send you the detail of the port location and where it's been intended to keep."
A note of excitement crept into Dario's voice. "These a significant lead, Gin. You're doing well." Dario paused for a moment, absorbing the information. "We'll move quickly on this. I'll mobilize our best surveillance team to intercept the shipment and gather evidence."
Ginevra's grip on the glass tightened as guilt surged through her veins. "Don't let this slip away."
The faster everything goes according to plan, the better it was for her.
"You're right, Gin," Dario agreed, his voice tinged with unwavering resolve. "We're fortunate to have you on this mission."
A faint smile tugged at Ginevra's lips.
Dario's voice softened with gratitude. "Stay strong and focused. Once there is a slight change, let us know and we'll get you out of there."
"I will," she muttered. Ending the call, Ginevra placed her glass on the balcony railing and stared out into the night once more. The city lights seemed to twinkle with a renewed sense of hope, but then her fingers reached to her collarbone, gently touching the necklace.
"Want do you want Leandro?" She whispered to herself. If only she knew what was going through his mind at the time of their dinner.
Everything seems to be getting more and more complicated with her emotions, and right now, she can't tell a word about how she feels. Nothing was going as planned—nothing. Not even her own actions.
She pried her fingers away from the diamond and then retreated from the balcony.
