The air crackled with the sound of gunfire, but Leandro remained nonchalant as he walks into the area dressing his suit, his face betraying no hint of concern. With a calm demeanor, he walked through the gangs, seemingly undisturbed by the mess around him.
Some of the rival's men, driven by blind aggression, tried to attack him. But Leandro remained composed, his expression neutral as Alonzo swiftly dealt with the assailants, neutralizing them one by one. Their futile attempts only highlighted Leandro's unyielding power.
Closing in on the mob's leader, Leandro's men forcefully dragged the battered figure before him. In a swift motion, he signaled for them to release the man. Immediately, the broken leader dropped to his knees, defeated and submissive.
A heavy silence descended upon them, broken only by the leader's ragged breaths. Leandro's gaze pierced through him, cold and unwavering, emanating authority, a force that demanded obedience.
Leandro's voice, calm yet laced with underlying menace, cut through the stillness. "You thought you could rob me, didn't you?" he questioned, feigning cluelessness.
The mob leader caught off guard, hesitated before responding. "I... I don't know what you're talking about," he stammered, attempting to conceal his guilt.
Leandro's lips curled into a sly smile as he reached into his pocket, retrieving a cigarette. With deliberate intent, he lit it up, the ember glowing in the dimly light space. He took a leisurely puff before speaking again, his voice filled with calculated intimidation. "Let's try this again," he said, his tone colder and more menacing. "Where are my goods, and who are you working for?"
The mob leader, sensing the shift in Leandro's demeanor, hesitated once more, his eyes darting nervously. Fear gripped him as he realized the extent of the danger he was in.
Though desperate to buy himself time, he mustered the courage to delay his response. His eyes darted frantically, searching for an escape that seemed increasingly elusive. But before he could utter another word, Leandro's patience wore thin.
Suddenly, without warning, Leandro lunged forward, his grip iron-strong as he seized the mob leader by the collar. In one swift motion, he smashed the man's head against the cracked windowpane, shattering the glass. The shards fell like icy raindrops, a chilling accompaniment to the tense standoff.
Now, with the mob leader teetering on the precipice of the broken window, Leandro's eyes glinted with a dangerous blend of irritation and sadistic pleasure. He tightened his grip on the man's tie which was the only thing keeping him from a deadly plunge. The cold night breeze ruffled their clothes, heightening the sense of imminent peril.
Leandro took a long drag from his cigarette, the ember glowing with an eerie intensity. A smokescreen of arrogance cloaked him as he exhaled, the smoke swirling around him like a sinister aura.
The mob leader trembled, his voice reduced to a quivering plea. "Please... I didn't mean... I'll tell you everything! Just don't let me fall!"
Leandro's eyes narrowed, relishing the fear he had instilled. His voice dripped with cockiness as he toyed with the mob leader's vulnerability. "I thought we wouldn't come to this," he sneered, the words laced with cruel pleasure. "So, now let's see how this goes. Who sent you, and where are my precious goods?"
The mob leader's voice quivered as he stammered his response, his words barely audible. "I... It's in a warehouse," he managed to say, his gaze fixed on the ground. "I can... take you there. Just... please..."
Leandro's eyes narrowed, his grip on the man's collar tightening. He pressed the lit cigarette against the mob leader's neck, a sizzling sound accompanying the searing pain provoked a loud cry from the man. And so the faint acrid smell of burning flesh stemmed just a little.
"Don't play games with me," Leandro hissed, his voice dripping with menace. "Tell me, where is this warehouse? And who does it belong to?"
Terror engulfed the horrified man's features as he trembled uncontrollably. Beads of sweat dripped down his face, mingling with his fear. "I... I can't say," he pleaded, his voice barely a whisper. "If I tell you, they'll kill me. Please... I beg you."
Leandro's grip tautened further, the man's words were a bit provoking if he may say. He leaned closer, his eyes burning with an intensity that sent shivers down the mob leader's spine. "You think I care about your life?" Leandro growled, his voice laced with chilling indifference. "You have one chance to make this right. Tell me now, or I'll let you fall, and trust me, it won't be a quick death."
The mob leader's resolve crumbled under the weight of his desperation, his voice trembling with fear. "It's... it's the Moretti," he finally revealed, his words weighed down by the knowledge that he had just signed his own death warrant.
But then, with a forceful shove, Leandro pushed the trembling man forward, eliciting a sharp cry of fear as he teetered on the edge of the broken window.
"And where exactly is this warehouse you mentioned?" Leandro demanded, his voice icy and relentless.
The mob leader, desperate to save himself from the impending fall, quickly blurted out the location, his words rushing out in a jumble of fear and anxiety. Leandro's eyes narrowed, absorbing the information with cold satisfaction.
"Good," Leandro sneered, a glimmer of triumph in his voice though his face remained the same. "It wasn't that difficult to cooperate, was it?"
The mob leader chuckled nervously with a few nods, his laughter tinged with fear as if trying to align himself with Leandro's menacing demeanor.
But when he thought he was off the hook, Leandro's expression hardened, his tone turning deadly serious. "I hope you enjoy the view from down there," he hissed, a sadistic gleam in his eyes. "If you survive the fall, consider it a head start. And if our paths cross again, I'll relish the opportunity to end you myself."
Before the mob leader could even utter a plea, Leandro released his grip on the man's tie, watching with a cold detachment as he plummeted into the abyss below, his screams fading into the night and then ending.
Leandro turned away from the broken window, his eyes shifting towards his own men who had witnessed the chilling display. With a swift motion, he adjusted his red tie, straightening it meticulously.
His voice cut through the lingering silence, his tone low yet commanding and assured. "You heard him." He said.
Alonzo nodded in response and without a word, he set out. As a few of his men moved to join Alonzo, Leandro's attention was momentarily diverted by the subtle vibration of his cell phone in his pocket. His eyes flickered toward the device, concealed within the confines of his tailored suit.
He pulled out the phone momentarily turning toward the window, the moon narrowly cast its pale glow through the window to the dim light space, reflecting faintly on his pristine white shirt that displayed around his collar as he lifted the phone to his ear.
"Speak," Leandro commanded, his tone concise and authoritative.
And just as the conversation concluded, Leandro ended the call and pocketed his phone, and soon he began heading out while the rest of the men joined him.
Leandro was soon driving to Ginevra's place alone when his house line called to inform him about an accident. Immediately he reversed and headed to his main residence. And in no time, he stepped into his lavish home, the weight of the call making him a bit unsettled.
Immediately, his eyes sought out the male escort stationed by the entrance, a poised and discreet figure in the grand foyer.
"Where are they?" Leandro's voice resonated with a mixture of urgency and genuine concern as he approached the entry.
"They are in the living room upstairs with the nanny, sir." The escort, impeccably dressed and composed, responded promptly and Leandro walked past him.
Without wasting a moment, Leandro hastened up the sweeping staircase, and in no time he entered the living space. There Aurelio bore a bandage snugly wrapped around his left arm. Standing steadfastly by Aurelio's side was his daughter, her wide eyes flickering between concern and a glimmer of relief.
“Welcome, Sir Vinci.” The nanny greeted but then Leandro rushed to his son's side, his hands gently cupping Aurelio's cheek.
“Are you alright, big man?" he whispered, his voice filled with paternal tenderness and a touch of anxiety.
Aurelio mustered a weak smile, and the lines of pain momentarily eased. "I'm alright, Papa," he assured, his voice tinged with resilience that echoed Leandro's indomitable spirit.
Leandro chuckled softly, he may have feared the outcome of the incident but hearing him say so made him a bit relaxed. "Yeah, of course, you're alright." He said to him and then softly stroke his cheek before turning his attention to Lucetta.
Leandro delicately brushed his hand against her smooth cheek, seeking reassurance. "And you, my darling, are you unharmed?"
She nodded, her eyes shining. "Yes, Daddy, I'm fine. The doctor says Aurelio's hand will be alright in about a week."
Leandro's features softened and then he turned to the Nanny. "Maria," Leandro's voice carried a delicate blend of gratitude and curiosity, "what exactly happened?"
"They were engaged in a play by the pool, and unfortunately, Aurelio lost his balance and fell." She explained with a measured tone.
"Thankfully, his injury isn't severe, and his hand will heal completely within a week." The doctor declared.
Leandro expressed his gratitude to the doctor with a curt nod and with his final words to Leandro, he picked up his bag. "I will take my leave now, Sir Vinci." The doctor said and then excused himself from the room.
Leandro's gaze shifted back to Aurelio, his voice filled with gentle concern. "Be more careful next time, alright?" he advised.
Aurelio nodded solemnly before Maria’s voice came up. “Master Vinci, should I ready your meal?" The nanny asked dutifully, concern etched on her face.
Leandro shook his head lightly. "No, Maria," he replied softly. "Thanks. Have you and the children already had dinner?"
Maria nodded. Yes, sir. They did already."
"Then you can rest for the night," he instructed gently. "I will take care of putting them to bed."
Maria's mild eyes brightened with gratitude. Although Leandro wasn't usually in the house, he does love to spend time with them whenever he was around.
"Thank you, Sir Vinci," she murmured calmly before bidding Aurelio and Lucetta goodnight, and then she retreated from the room.
Leandro turned his attention back to his children. "Come, it's late already," he beckoned, his voice warm and tender. "You two need to get to bed."
Leandro later stood in front of Ginevra's apartment door, his finger hovering over the doorbell. He glanced at his wristwatch, noting that it was only a few minutes before 1 am. Guilt washed over him for being so late, and he wondered if she was still awake, waiting for him.
How unfortunate was he for being late the first time he had really wanted to have dinner with her?
After a brief moment of hesitation, he decided to use the master key he had with him. Slowly and quietly, he inserted the key into the lock and turned it, allowing the door to open with a soft click. He stepped inside the dimly lit living room of her apartment, careful not to disturb the peaceful silence.
But then, he halted as his gaze fell upon Ginevra, who was fast asleep on the couch. She looked serene and vulnerable, her features softened in the gentle glow of a nearby lamp.
