Before the Storm I “I’m sorry, we’re still not open. Please come back during store hours, nine— Lois?” I raised my hands in the air to acknowledge my name, greeting him with a small wave and a wide smile. His smile was always contagious. It never changed. He was like a ball of sunshine that could light up any dark room. He ran to the door and continued to open it for me despite saying they were still closed for the day, so I stepped inside and sat down in one of the tables.
