Chapter Twelve

Scandalous Library Romances II Should I go for this? I’ve never hit on a musician before so I’m not sure how I should approach, but I’ll take my chances on opportunities like these. I’d Segway my way out of it if it turns out to be someone who isn’t my type though. I grabbed the knob and I was about to open the door when my phone suddenly rang. Talk about timing, man. I lazily pulled out my phone again. If this is Aiden… I swear to God. Incoming call… Unknown Number. Guess it’s not Aiden I’m slapping today, after all. I slid the answer button and spoke. “Hello?” I said coldly. This man be ruining my attempts for a new target. No one was speaking. So when no one was speaking, I aggressively exclaimed, “HELLO?!” “It’s Sageon! Oh my god, you scared me, Lois.” Who the heck is a Sageon? “Sageon! Baby, hey!” I blinked as if it’d help me remember what I did with this guy. It doesn’t even ring any bells. Not one bit familiar to me. Not even the name was helping when it usually does. “How are you? I haven’t heard from you in ages!” “I just ran into you the other day…” Oh crap. “You know, it feels like ages even if it’s just a day. The impact you give me is just…” I gulped hard, walking away from the door to head to the library. “—it hits different, you know.” I heard him chuckle from the other line, feeling all giddy for what I said. I almost hissed out loud. It’s funny how they seem to think I mean every word I say. It would take a miracle for me to say those and actually mean them. That’s just so out of character when it comes from me. That moment may never come for me. “Would you want to go eat dinner some time?” I raised a brow at how seamless that was. I mean, I always expect boys to ask dinner, but I didn’t think it would come from a Sageon that I don’t even remember. “Dinner sounds super great, awesome!” I frantically complimented the offer. “Tell you what, let’s talk again later because I’m in the library.” I toned my voice down even if I wasn’t even in the library yet because I had no time to deal with someone I flirted with in the past. “I have to do my homework so bye.” I ended the call, turned my phone off and stepped inside the library before I actually get disowned by my best friend. I spotted Aiden sitting by the center study tables, reading diligently and cutely like the cutie he was. I quietly approached him and he looked up to me unamused. I took the seat next to him and leaned closer to his ear to whisper. “What are you frowning about, Andy cutie?” “Nothing.” He doesn’t look at me and kept jotting down things over his notebook or something. “Read that then make your essay basing from that. I’ll read what you do after so I can make it better.” Oh… kay. I raised my hands and my eyes widened in shock at how cold he was. I could tell right off the bat that he was pissed that I disregarded him again. It’s not like I was even disregarding him. There were just some things that happened that can’t be looked out on. “Chill, pal.” “Hurry up so we can go.” I pulled my bag to my lap, scowling at his response, maybe mocking him a little too. I rolled my eyes at his comment. But no way I wasn’t gonna go about the tutoring that was proposed to me for merits, so I told him about it. He was almost going to shush me but he somehow got interested by the last minute. “Tutoring?” He asked in disbelief. “Tutoring who? Since when?” I shrugged, grabbing the book he slid to my side for my assignment. “Students from the high school department. I’m not sure who. Ms. Olivia said she’ll give me more details once everything’s settled.” “High school boys?” I grinned at him, unable to hide the excitement in my face. “Be surprised if I took the job offer without boys. Like you don’t even know me.” He sighed heavily. “So what are you tutoring? Math?” I bobbed my head. Of course, Aiden would figure out that I’d be teaching Math. He was one of the few people who knew I was great at it, after all. “I hate that Mr. David keeps bragging about me in their faculty. I don’t like students to look at me and think I’m a math wizard or something.” “Being naturally good at Math is a gift. You should be grateful that you’re one of the people who could do it effortlessly.” I rolled my eyes, grunting quietly. I mean, we’ve been whispering because of how scared we are at the librarian who was just watching us from a distance. I’m specifically at watch here since I’ve been scolded by the librarian many times now. “It’s not a gift. It’s a curse.” He chuckled and proceeded back to writing so I decided I should start reading this too if I wanted to go home early. I leaned my back to the chair after reading the first paragraph. None of the information were sinking into my head. I was reading them but I wasn’t understanding it even if I tried. Maybe I should just take this home and try to read it, but I can’t really do homework unless I’m with Aiden, that’s that. I can’t do anything back home but rest and lay around the bed with a snack. I looked up to the entrance and saw the senior guy I met a few days ago. He’s back and looking so fine. I smirked, tapping Aiden by the shoulder. “I’ll just go check a book okay? Stay there.” I frantically stood and followed the man who walked to a row across our side, making sure I wasn’t going to leave him out of my sight. I raked my hair with my fingers, smacked my lips together to make it better, I guess, and fixed my uniform before walking to where he was walking around, looking for a book I assume. He looked just as good as I remembered. It’s strange how I managed to remember this guy when I barely remember anything about the guys I try to date. That’s just what it’s like when they make an impact on me. “So the nuclear fusion one.” He paused and didn’t turn to look at me for a brief moment. “The book you suggested was almost a cheat code.” He chuckled, bobbing his head, and finally turning to look at me with the face of expecting something. “I did put a lot of pointers there for other students to take advantage of.” “That’s really nice of you helping the students’ lives easier.” I laughed with him. “Do you have more books you can suggest for Mr. Gerald’s class?” I asked, stepping closer to him – but not too close. That’s just creepy. “Are you asking because you need it or you just… you have other intentions, perhaps?” I looked away a little stunned by his sudden uptight question. He caught on to me faster that I thought. That goes to show how much of an intelligent person he was. “You’re right.” I cut him off. I gotta say, he looked like he didn’t have it in him, the straight forwardness, but that’s why people say you can’t judge a book by its cover. This is a learning process for me too – but funner. “I just really wanted to talk to you. Who wouldn’t want to anyway?” He smiled. He took the compliment pretty well than I expected. I thought he would be creeped out if I came out to strong, but he actually looked like he liked it. “I appreciate the interest.” How polite. The way he looked, the way he dressed, the way he knows about books – I guess being polite just matches him too well. There’s something about guys like him that’s, well… handsome. “What about I treat you lunch for helping me with my essay? That sound fair?” He looked down, laughing shyly. “I’ll see you on Monday at lunch then, Ms. Bartel.” I curtsied playfully and turned to my back to walk away. That went as smooth as I expected. The guy already looks so thankful that I’m the one asking him for lunch, even. I reckon people would go up to him and ask him out for being too bookish. People don’t tend to go for men like him. “What took you so long? Where’s the book?” Aiden asked the moment I got back to our table. I sat down feeling the victory rush inside my veins. And not worried of what Aiden might think when I confessed I only got off for another guy. “Oh no, they didn’t have it.” Aiden doesn’t buy it, of course. He always knew when I was lying but he’s been too afraid to ask what really happened. I guess he wasn’t scared, maybe he just thought he’d only hurt himself more if he asked more because deep inside, he would sense that it’s gonna be about a boy. “You can even flirt in the library now. How disrespectful.” I frowned, turning to him in surprise that he just said that. I guess he accepts that that’s just how I am as a person now. “That’s so mean but true. How did you know? Did you follow me all the way to the other side?” I didn’t even need to ask because I already knew. Asking about it to tease him more is my only agenda. He turned to me with a crooked smile. “No. If I go there, I’d only torture myself.” I pressed my lips together. “Torture’s too much.” “Seeing you flirting with other guys,” He paused, looking into my eyes intently. “Is torture to me, Achelois Gwynn Bartel.” I slapped his chest, creasing my brows. “What are you calling my full name for?!” “SHH!” I covered my mouth with my palms flinching at the hiss of the terror librarian, who glared at me like I committed arson, by the way. I bowed at her direction. I see Aiden laughing quietly at my side so I nudged him in frustration. “I hate you.” I whispered to him with a husky voice – the murderous type of whisper. “I love you too.”
