Cecilia placed the tray carefully on the table beside me and handed me a mug containing a hot liquid,
“I made this tea for you to ease your pain, drink up, and eat before you go see the boss” she said politely.
Cecilia's voice was soothing but the mention of “the boss” made me nervous. I looked into the cup, “What’s in it?” I asked.
Cecilia smiled calmly, “It’s just chamomile and a bit of honey, it helps with shock and pain”.
“Oh thank you” I said and sipped the hot tea cautiously.
I took a bite of the sandwich, “So, the boss wants to see me?” I asked, my voice a bit shaky despite my efforts to sound calm.
Cecilia nodded softly, “Yeah, heard he took you from an abandoned warehouse yesterday, guess he wants to know how you ended up there.”
I sighed heavily, “Nervous?” She asked,
“Yeah, and scared too. I’ve heard a lot of things about Jason Walker and the Walker family” I said as I chewed the food inside my mouth slowly.
“Honestly, I’d say you should worry less about that. The Walkers only mess with people who are a threat, or are you?” She asked her eyes looking straight into mine
“Threat? No” I said, shaking my head.
I ate the last bite of the sandwich. “Thank you for the tea and the delicious food, Cecilia” I said with a polite smile,
She smiled back. “You’re welcome, hm.. what’s your name by the way?” She asked,
“Mara,” I replied.
Cecilia nodded, her expression was quite thoughtful. “Mara, okay. Alright, I’ll take you to see Jason now. He’s waiting.” She said, adjusting her dress.
I nodded my head, trying to compose myself. “Yeah,” I said standing up.
Cecilia led me to a large door at the end of the hallway, knocked twice, and then pushed it open. She bowed respectfully. “Mara’s here” she announced, stepping aside for me to enter.
I stepped into the office quietly. Jason Walker didn’t even look up from his computer. “Take a seat,” he said, his voice smooth. I made my way to the chair in front of his desk and sat down. That’s when I got a good look at him.
He looked neat and put together, his shirt fitting perfectly on his athletic build. His sharp jawline was relaxed, his lips were soft and slightly parted like he wanted to speak, and his blue eyes looked like a calm ocean. “Sexy” I thought to myself. A few cute tattoos peeked out from under his sleeves and the scent of his cologne filled the office with a sophisticated aroma.
Jason leaned back in his chair, and I immediately looked down, adjusting my posture.
He looked at me and asked, “How did you end up locked in the warehouse?”.
I told him about my uncle, how Jeff’s men took me to that warehouse and locked me in the storeroom. Jason listened attentively, his expression turned darker with every word.
After I finished, he leaned in, his voice low and serious, “Jeff’s still unconscious. I haven’t gotten a word from him yet. I’m hoping you are telling the truth, because I’ll be checking with him soon”.
“I’m telling the truth, I have no reason to lie”, I insisted, my expression intense.
The tattooed face guy walked in, “Boss, Jeff is awake. He’s down in the basement”
Jason nodded, “Come with me” he said to me as he stood up. I followed him through the hallway, down to the stairs, and into the dimly lit basement. Jeff was strapped to a chair, his wrist bound to the arms of the chair. He was looking so rough.
Jason moved closer to Jeff and pointed his gun at him. Jeff spat at Jason’s feet, “You won’t kill me.”
Jason chuckled coldly. “I won’t kill you, yet.”
Jason whistled, and his men moved in. The punishment began.
Jason’s men began to beat Jeff seriously, the beating was brutal, and the thud filled the basement. Jeff’s scream was intense, blood spraying everywhere. Jason watched, pleased and satisfied.
I stood there frozen, my hands shaking like crazy, trying not to watch but couldn’t look away.
After a few minutes, the room fell silent as Jason raised his hand, his men stepping back. He moved in close to Jeff, and said to him “This is just the start. I swear, you'll wish you'd never crossed me”.
Jason clapped, and his men sprang into action again. They started breaking Jeff's fingers, one by one. The screams were unbearable, Jeff crying out in agony.
Jeff laughed crazily through his tears, “You think you're the smartest, huh?” he sneered, struggling against the ropes.
Jason leaned in, his eyes narrowed. “This lady, who's she? Is she in on it?” he asked, pointing at me. Jeff smirked, spitting on the floor, “The Smith girl, huh? No, but I’ve got a deal with her uncle”
Jason nodded, took a drag of his cigarette, and without a word, pressed the burning tip into Jeff's forehead. Jeff's scream was like nothing before.
Jason turned to leave, and I trailed behind him quietly. He was imposing, his confidence radiating from every step. “Make sure he's barely alive”, he whispered to one of his men as we walked out.
We went back to his office. I stood there, fidgeting slightly, as Jason settled into the couch, his movements smooth and controlled. He crossed one leg over the other.
He lit another cigarette, and the flame lit up his face for a moment. “You’re free to go”, he said, his voice casual, almost bored. “I’ll get Cecilia to show you out”.
I knelt there, hands clapped together in a plea. “Please, I have nowhere to go. My life is in danger”, I begged, my voice cracking.
He watched me, his face unreadable.
