"Who tha f**k is that?" Con asked looking across the street at the brown-skin beauty as Key looked the other way. "She's too grown for you." Key said as he looked at the woman. She wasn't his type but looking at her she was everyone's type. Her slim frame was curvy in the right places and her brown skin was smooth. If her pretty face and long thick natural hair didn't reel you in her eyes would. They were big and brown eyes that seemed to be soul-piercing the moment she would look at you. For a moment she locked eyes with Key just as leaned down and grabbed her package off her porch. She turned back around without another glance and headed back into her house. It wasn't the first time Key noticed her or locked eyes with her as he continued to stare off in her direction. "Nigga you like her that's why you talkin bout to grown." Con said sucking his teeth. "Don't you gotta girl? Girls?" Con continued. "Plus you jus a few years older than me so what she gotta be jus a lil older right?" He eyed her house and Key laughed him off. "Nigga anyways finish tellin me what you was talkin bout." Key said as he still stared but she didn't even bother to look out her curtains. "So my boy said his brotha tha connect. Said he would put me on and it doesn't sound like bad idea." Con shrugged and Key squinted his eyes. "The connect or the plug?" Key asked. Most people would think they were one in the same but Key knew differently. The connect knew everyone but the plug was who everyone waited on. In some cases they could be the same but the difference was as simple and complex as day and night. "Nigga tha plug. I mean what you think?" Con asked him. Key shrugged. "Well, how bout I go wit?" Key offered and Con looked surprised. He always wanted to stay out of the way and wasn't looking directly to deal with anyone but Con. That made Con feel special. "Yea that would be coo." Con nodded containing his excitement. Honestly, if he had better examples of good people in his life he wouldn't have seen what Key was doing as manipulative. Key knew this as he slapped his back. Con came from a broken home. it wasn't his fault at all but every bad thing he had done since his father left was his fault. that included assaulting one of his classmates, fighting on and off school grounds, and selling drugs were just the most recent of his adventures. it was as if no matter what his mother said it fell on deaf ears. "I appreciate you fa real." Con said looking up to Key like any little brother should. For the first time since Coles's death, Key felt close to someone. He gave a light nod and couldn't help but think back to that night. Key could have blamed the drugs or even the situation but he knew what he did was foul. Not only did he set his best friend's brother up but pulled the trigger on his best friend leaving them. both in an open trunk to be found. All of it stems from Key being jealous of Cole and Cody's brotherhood. To Key no matter what it was he could rely on Cole. That was until one day when Cole stood him up to hang out with Cody. That same night Key got beat and robbed. He worked for months to pay back what he lost. Ironically it would cost him the only person in the world he was sure who cared about him. Like Con, Key came from a broken home. Keys mother had only him but still seemed to struggle. Key never quite understood how considering he watched moms with 4-5 kids make miracles every year. They were the opposite for Keysha who did the bare minimum, required the bare minimum, and blamed her son for all her problems. It wasn't always so bad with her but after his grandmother died Key had no one and nothing. In middle school, he met his best friend and could have sworn they would be locked in forever. Forever really just never means forever. "You hear me?" Con asked snapping Key out of his thoughts. "My bad what?" Key looked at him. "I appreciate it bro." He said and Key gave a light nod. "I got you." He said dapping him up as he stood up. Con knew that meant it was time for him to leave so he followed suit and walked off. It was right on time as Key was all smiles to see Brooke pull up. The last few weeks they had been hanging out and he had to admit he liked her. The thing was Brooke was unattainable. She was smart and loyal but she enjoyed the finer things in life he could tell. She was a baller girlfriend type but to Key when he saw her smile she was just meant to be his. "So yo ass really pulled up on ya boy?" He laughed and she smirked. "You said you could show me somethings, like what?" She said and he laughed. It took her no time to warm up to him as he looked to the right and the smile he had fell. Then came Trisha. Trisha was a pretty woman but she was a hoe. Her flat stomach, wide hips, and casual upkeep had even reeled Key in. He had been fuckin on her well over a year but they weren't dating nor were they exclusive. "Whose this?" Trisha said eyeing Brooke. "Aye gone wit that." Key said reading right into whatever she was trying to do. Trisha had 4 kids and the way she was acting you could swear up and down that he was one of her baby daddies. "Na cause we was jus fuckin so who is this?" She said and Brooke smirked. Brooke may have looked sweet but she didn't back down easily as she parked his car. "Glad he knows when he sees somethin better." She said walking over and standing next to Key. Key thought it was interesting that she wasn't the timid girl he flirted with at the mall but nonetheless he was interested in her. "Oh, you think you funny. Lightskin bitches sholl think they got jokes." She said to him. "You light skin ain't you?" He said looking at Trisha. They were maybe a shade or two different. Key did like light-skinned women and anyone who truly knew him knew this. "Anyway, we need to talk." Trisha said directing all her attention to Key. She looked good but even on her best day which today was one of them she didn't look good as Brooke. Brooke stood with her 30-inch wig with her small waist and wide hips. Her chest-to-ass ratio was perfect and Key knew this as he looked at Trisha, even with a flat stomach after 4 kids she just couldn't compete. "About what?" He said as Brooke wrapped her arm around him. "Nigga are you fa real?" Trisha said irritated. She had come with all intentions of talking to him but did not expect to see another girl not when they had been talking for over 6 months. "What you mean?" He said looking at her as Brook stood there with a smug smile. "We need to talk." She repeated. "You can go head." He said and Trisha rolled her eyes as she shifted her feet. "What?"Broke started. "Cat got your tongue?" She said catching both Trisha and Key off guard. "b***h ion think I f****d you-"Trisha started Brooke laughed. "You could never." Brooke laughed putting her hand on Key's chest. "He might be able to tho. I gotta say you makin it hard for him." Brooke looked to Key who looked at her intrigued. He liked this look on her. "I'm pregnant!" Trisha said bluntly to him trying to ignore Brooke who was making things hard. "Man chill." he waved her off. "I'm serious." She grabbed his hand and he pulled away. "I ain't never f**k you raw." He said to her looking at her and Brooke shrugged. "Well, that makes me feel better." Brooke chuckled pulling him back to her car. "We still havin our date night?" Brooke looked up at him and he shrugged. "Let's go." She laughed and he let her as she pulled him to her 2020 Benz. "Uhm ight." He said really unsure what he could say but he was choosing and he chose. "Ight Trish. Ima see you." He got into the car and Brooke did the same before giving a small wave. From the window of her front room, his new neighbor shook her head looking at the loud and ghetto drama unfolding. Half the neighborhood was so she didn't feel bad as she sucked her teeth looking at the scene unfold. He just rode off with the woman and she realized she had been naive enough to fight for a man and she told herself never again. "Stupid." She chuckled closing her blinds. She turned back to her simple home as she sat down to see how much money she actually had left. 6 months had passed since the suitcase in front of her was the last thing from her old life. Something she wanted to let go of but every time she picked up to move that was the only thing she kept with her. Now that she had found a home a place she was sure was as safe she figured she could finally toss it out and she started to remove her money.
