"I'm sorry Cas." Ava stood by his truck. He shrugged her off. "It's coo." He said and she stared. Ava reached for his arm and he pulled away. She nodded knowing he had all right. "Why? You don't f**k wit me." He asked lighting his blunt. He wasn't going to ask but found himself curious. "You're a good guy-" She started off. "Can we cut the bullshit?" He asked taking a pull. "I jus don't fall for the same thing-" She started to admit and Cas' face said a lot. "You think a nigga yo ex? That a nigga will beat you or some s**t?" He scoffed. "p***y good but not that good-" He started and Ava looked at him as if he was crazy. Instead of arguing he opened his car door. He could tell she felt some kind of way but he was actually bothered by her leaving last night as much as he didn't want to admit it. now to top it here comparing him to any nigga in the past, her past didn't sit well. he told himself to just leave her alone. Cas thought it ironic that the tormented found each other but instead of seeing him she saw him as a monster. He wasn't sure how her ex-husband was towards her exactly but he could tell it was something, a lot of things just based on how she previously talked to him. "Look it's coo. We good Ava." He said and he didn't even finish his blunt putting it out and getting in his vehicle before pulling off abruptly. Ava was sure he meant the opposite of what he said. She knew he wasn't Seven, actually the opposite. Casanova had always been transparent. Seven could never. It was just too soon and she was better off she told herself as she walked down the street. As she did she saw Brooke watching her leaving from in front of Casanova's house. Ava gave her a slight wave and she rolled her eyes. She shrugged it off. Things were still awkward between them. Ava instead looked ahead and noticed the weather. It was a nice day. Deep down she wished she hadn't pushed Cas away but figured it was best. Ava headed for her front porch as she ran up the stairs. Nothing was out of place. She knew it was excessive but she would rather be safe than sorry. As she unlocked the door she noticed Brooke still staring. She let it go and went inside. Ava was dressed in jeans and a shirt but figured since she had plans to go to the gym that she should change. She was months in and had to admit although it was an old gym the guy training her was good. He was an ex-cop and spent his time training women who were domestic abuse survivors. He met Ava and could instantly tell she must have found him when he spoke at a local community center. Harold had done it as community service since he lost his daughter that way. ahead figured if he could find someone who would listen and wanted help he would give it. 29 years later he was still doing what he could. "Well, I guess time to get back to it." Ava said shaking her head. It was ridiculous to even think about Casanova as she tried not to think about him biting her neck. Chills went down her spine and she shook it off. ------------------------------------------------ "Why you so damn interested in that nigga?" Con asked as Cas walked around him and the young men on his block. "I'm jus asking if he givin you what you deserve." Cas chuckled. He knew very well that Key wasn't the type to do so. He could also see Con might be questioning it just based on the look on his face. "Nigga we eatin over here." Con said and his friends nodded. Cas chuckled. "Ight lil man." He said getting into his car. Con didn't know what it is but he could tell Cas didn't like Key. No one else picked up on it but Con was sure it was personal. "Nigga?" Con said looking at Cas as he got into his truck. "Be easy. Stay safe." Cas said and it was definitely a warning. Con didn't even get the chance to respond as Cas pulled off. Con glared at his truck as he pulled up to his house not even bothering to look back. Everyone in the area knew who Cas was. In mere months he had the streets in a chokehold. He was the biggest competition and he came out of nowhere. Not only was the plug curious about him but so was Key which was unusual for him. Con thought it was ironic since Key had yet to meet him. Both men who had never met seemingly were curious about each other. "What he on?" One of Con's friends approached. "Iono but ion trust that nigga watch him." Con said as he looked over at Key's house and wondered where he was. ------------------------‐----------------- "Aye watch that shit." Key said as he watched a female bag up dope. Like usual she was naked as she and a few other girls nodded and continued. Key had taken over a dope house within months. He knew that was Con wanted to do and to be honest the young man was growing on him. He instead made a deal with him. If he would stay in school and keep his grades up while hitting the block he would reward him. Con was in his first half of trade school and Key was sure he would be bigger than blocks. He figured tossing a few extra racks to the teens wouldn't be bad. He started to think maybe he could be redeemed. Key knew he wasn't perfect and couldn't wash his past away but wanted to do something for the greats he might have been taken from the world. "Sorry Key." One of the girls smiled pulling down her mask. Key wasn't sure why she wanted to f**k him but he could tell she wanted to. Key ignored her as he thought about the blessings he seemed to be receiving. Not only did he have a baddie as an almost girlfriend but he was making good money. He was in a position he should have been years ago. He wasn't sure what was next but he was ready for it. "So you heard about that nigga Cas?" Tay one of his trappers asked. "Who is this nigga?" Key asked. He heard he lived close but he had yet to see him. He wasn't worried about him as long as he didn't move on any blocks that were his. the main reason for that was because the plug told him to stand down. Key told him months ago he would be a problem but figured it was out of his hands so it wasn't his problem. "Some nigga from out east. Light skin." He said and Key sucked his teeth. "Light skin niggas always think they special." He laughed dapping Tay up. "Make sure that s**t straight I'm finna bounce." Key said looking at his phone. It was Trisha. He told Brooke he didn't talk to her but he did. Key didn't want to be expecting a baby and not be around. He figured whatever he could do to make it easy. If he could manage Trisha to keep her from tripping and Brooke to keep her around he was sure by the time the baby came he would be good. He already had a house and was planning on going back to work days at the warehouse once he stacked and the baby came. "Ight see yo ass tomorrow." Tay gave him a head nod. Key looked at his phone going off again. "What's up Bae?" Key answered. "Nothin' missin' you. what you doin'?" Brooke asked. He could hear her smacking her gum. "s**t trappin' like usual." He said. For the most part, he was honest with her except for Trisha. He figured it wouldn't hurt especially since Brooke still hadn't chosen to make things official. He understood why but he didn't care he wanted to be with Brooke. They did everything involving a man and a woman in a relationship but still no titles. Until then he figured was single but had a complicated situation. "I know you gave me money the other day but do you think you could help wit my car note and rent this month?" Brooke asked Key looked at his phone. "Huh?" He asked and he heard her turn on her baby voice. "Well I lost my job and I promise I'll make it worth your while." She said and he got into his car. "Man, how much?" He sucked his teeth. "Like 1500." She said. "And I jus gave yo ass a band for your hair and nails?" He said not understanding. "Key." She pouted. "Man ight." He said as he headed for Trisha's just a few blocks away. "Thank you baby." She squealed. "Yea ight that 1500 you gotta work for it." Key flirted and she chuckled. "I got you daddy." Brooke said as he pulled up to Trisha's. "Ight ima see you in a few hours." He said before getting off the phone. Trisha looked happy as she stood on the porch with her round stomach. Key got out of his new Cadillac truck and made his way toward her. " Hey, daddy." She said as he got out and walked up the stairs towards her.
