Isla’s POV
“So, how’s life? It has been a while since I talked to you like this,” Beatrice asked me while we were heading towards her bedroom. We usually have our conversation inside her room, especially if we are going to talk about something very important. And most of the time, we spend the whole night here.
“Actually, I have something to tell you,” I said. As we headed inside her room, we headed towards the balcony and sat there. The wind outside feels cold, but the nostalgia of this feeling is warming. It has really been a while since I had a chance like this.
“Oh, before you tell me about that, I remember, didn’t you mention before that your father received a letter from Mr. Blackwood?” She asked me as she handed a glass of orange juice.
“Yeah, and that is what I was about to tell you,” I said before taking a sip of the orange juice she made.
“Hmm? Spill.” She said while looking at the willow tree in front of us. I remember when we used to play chase here back when we were kids.
“Well, you remember about that letter, right?” I said, and she just nodded at me as her response.
“Yeah, and I was so jealous because our family didn’t receive one. I heard that Mr. Blackwood only sent 5 copies of that letter all around Aurevale. The fewest amongst the few, as they said,” She said, which made me look at her with a confused look on my face because I thought every business owner received one.
“Oh? You looked confuse? Are you not aware of that? Mr. Blackwood released a statement that he sent 5 copies around Aurevale. The ones who received the letter are the elites only,” She continues while scrolling at her phone.
“Wait, isn’t your family considered an elite one as well?” I asked her while she was busy scrolling. It’s true that our business is way more powerful than theirs, but their family is still considered one of the elites here in Aurevale.
“Here!” She said as soon as she found the article she was talking about.
“Mr. Blackwood stated that he only sent 5 copies all around Aurevale and each letter consisted of a unique message coming from Mr. Blackwood himself.” I read the article, which made me frown. Unique messages coming from him?
“So, it’s not the same for everyone?” I asked Beatrice as I handed over her phone. She nods at me before she speaks.
“Yeah, so now I am curious about the letters, especially yours. Imagine, the God of Aurevale sent a message to you, and not to mention it was a handwritten one.” She said as she clasped her hands, as if she was dreaming of receiving one. I didn’t know that it was such a big deal to receive this letter from the so-called God.
“It was actually handwritten, but his letter to us is just…weird.” I said while looking at her. Beatrice frowned at me as if she didn’t believe what I just said.
“Why?” She asked me while frowning. I took a deep breath first before I started speaking.
“Well, it was short and straight forward, and downright weird. It says; ‘I am looking forward to meeting your daughter, and delighted to have that opportunity.’” I said, which was immediately followed by Beatrice’s loud scream.
“OH, MY GOODNESS! I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT!” Beatrice screams while running behind me. I just watched her emotions take over her and waited for her to calm down.
“So, what did Uncle William say?” Beatrice asked me with a full of excitement on her face.
“At first, my father just wrote back saying he appreciates the letter we received, and he will also set a date where he and I are going to meet,” I said while looking at her. Beatrice looks so excited about this moment, and there’s no way I can turn back now.
“You are so lucky, Isla! Imagine the God of Aurevale wanted to meet you in person?! Not every lady has gotten that opportunity!” she said as she held my hand. She looks so genuinely happy to me, which made me smile. Ever since we were kids, Beatrice has been my number one supporter. I am so lucky because, up to this day, when we are adults already, I still have her support.
“But, you know, there’s something weird about Mr. Blackwood,” I said, which made her frown.
“Have you met him already?” She asked me. I just shook my head before answering her.
“Not yet, but every time I watch his interview on the news, there’s something off about him,” I said, and Beatrice immediately tapped my shoulder, which made me look at her.
“Stop judging someone based on their appearance. We are all aware that Mr. Blackwood is the God of Aurevale, but I think he’s a good guy,” She said while looking at me with assurance.
“I don’t know, Bea. My dad also decided to invite him to my 25th birthday party,” I said, which made her giggle.
“Did you get a response from him?” She asked me.
“Not yet. My father had dinner with him tonight, and I guess I’ll be getting my answer tomorrow,” I said as I let out a heavy sigh.
“Uncle William will not let you meet someone who is bad for you. Just trust your father on this,” She said as she caressed my hand. I just nodded at her as my response, and we continued talking about some random things that happened to us. Maybe I am being a little bit judgmental?
The next day…
“Thank you so much Bea for having me here,” I said as I hugged her. She taps my back first before speaking.
“No, thank you for spending the whole night here. Mom just messaged me earlier, and she told me that she was going to Silverreach since my dad misses her,” She said, which made me laugh.
“Yeah, I also received a message from her. I told her that I would be leaving today since I would be having a food tasting for my birthday, and I also needed to go to one of my personal tailors for the dress fitting,” I said with a smile on my face.
“Update me, once you already have your dress, okay? You know, we always have matching ones,” She said, so I just nodded at her before giving her a hug.
“Yeah, so, I will be leaving now,” I said when I saw my car was coming over. Beatrice just nodded at me for her response and waved goodbye. I just waved back, before I started driving back home. While on my way home, I received a call coming from my dad, so I immediately answered it.
“Hello, dad?” I said as I answered the call.
“Are you already on your way home?” He asked me with a hint of worrying from his voice.
“Yes, dad. I just left Beatrice’s house. Is something wrong?” I asked him.
“Nothing, I thought you forgot your food tasting. By the way, I have something very important to tell you, but I will be telling it to you once you’re home,” He said, which made me frown. Why can’t he just say it to me right at this moment? We’re already talking.
“Oh, okay. Be there in 15,” I said before ending the call. While on my way, I received another message coming from that unknown number once again. I just rolled my eyes and continued driving. If that person didn’t want to introduce himself, I wouldn’t give a thing about it. As soon as I arrived at our house, my butler assisted me with parking my car.
“Mr. William is waiting for you at his office,” He said, so I just nodded at him before heading towards my father’s office. As soon as I arrived, I knocked at the door first before heading inside.
“Hello, dad,” I said while walking towards him. He is sitting in his office chair while holding the photo of our family. There are times like this when he misses my mom. Well, I miss her too.
“Isla. Come here, sit down,” He said, so I just nodded at him before walking towards the chair in front of his table.
“You are aware that I have been talking with Mr. Blackwood, right?” My dad said as soon as I sat down in front of him. I just nodded at him as my response. It looks like my father is in a good mood. He surely has news about the attendance of Mr. Blackwood at my birthday party.
“Yeah, you told me yesterday that you would invite him to my birthday party. So, did he have a response already?” I asked him, and he nodded at me with a bright smile on his face. I knew it!
“Yup! Mr. Blackwood was so delighted with my invitation. In fact, he asked for your phone number to express his gratitude for our invitation,” my dad said, which made me frown. Is he the unknown number from yesterday and earlier?
“You gave my number to him?” I asked him, and he just nodded at me before speaking.
“Yes! You haven’t received a message from him?” He asked me and I just shook my head as my answer. I didn’t bother looking at the message I received earlier since it was from an unknown number.
“I see, maybe he will message you one of these days. I will not be attending your food tasting today, because I have an important business meeting at Silverreach alongside Beatrice’s father. I hope you understand me, my dear,” He said while caressing my hand that was lying on the table. I cannot help but to feel disappointed, but there’s nothing I can do.
“It’s okay, dad. I understand,” I said while smiling at him.
“Thank you, my daughter, don’t worry, someone will accompany you. And, that person is a trusted person of mine,” He said with a reassuring smile on his face.
“Okay, dad. Take care on your way to Silverreach, and please give my regards to Aunt Claire,” I said as I hugged him.
“Of course, don’t worry, I will be giving you some souvenirs,” He said, so I just nodded at him before heading towards my room. While on my way to my room, I decided to read the message I received earlier.
“Hi Lady Isla! I got your phone number from Mr. Harrington, himself. I was so delighted to have a personal invitation for your birthday party. I cannot wait to see you!
-Best regards,
Elijah Blackwood”
“So formal,” I whispered to myself after reading his message. Since I didn’t want to look rude, I decided to send a message to him as well.
“Looking forward as well!”
“Simple, yet formal,” I said after sending my message. Since it’s already almost lunchtime, I decided to get ready for the food tasting. I didn’t want to be late since it could ruin my father’s reputation. After I was done getting ready, I received another message from him. I almost let go of my phone after reading his message. This can’t be true!
