Chapter Ten
The next day, I placed a call to Laura. I told her that I was leaving Ilka. I explained the reason for the separation. There was a good sixty seconds of silence.
In a very calm voice she said, “I’m going to the university on Monday and resign. That will give Ava an inside track on getting a teaching job. I’m going to move back to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, my home town. I intend to retire. The house is yours. I should be out of there within a month. You can do with the house what you will. I hope that you and that young woman are going to be very happy,” then she abruptly hung up.
