CASEY
The next morning, Chloe scheduled an abortion for me. I stared at the confirmation email on her phone and felt absolutely nothing, which was strange because less than twenty four hours ago, I’d been stressing over what to do with this baby.
Now my decision had been made. Or rather, it was made for me.
“Friday morning,” Chloe said quietly.
That was three days away. I sighed in relief. I was seated on my bed with my legs crossed, still wearing the dress I wore to the party.
“If you don’t want to do it, then we don’t have to,” Chloe added when I didn’t respond.
I looked at her with a brow raised.
“What else am I supposed to do?”
It was her turn to keep quiet. She joined me on my bed and we spent our entire morning trying to go back to sleep.
By the next day, I was feeling much better.
So what if I was getting a few curses here and there on BLAST? None of those cowards had the courage to say those mean words to my face.
As I walked around the campus to my classes, I got stares and attention. Or rather, my stomach was getting all the attention. I lost count of how many students I caught staring at my belly, trying to guess how far along I was.
I kept my head high, trying to imitate what Chloe would do in this situation. Not that her ideas were always the best.
I managed to get to my lecture hall and took a sit. I could still hear whispering from all around me, but I knew they wouldn’t approach me.
Well, I thought I knew.
No sooner had I taken out my earbuds to try and cancel out the noise when a group of girls surrounded me.
I recognized one of them. She was the same girl Gregory was with the night Chloe stole him away from her.
I assumed they were here to play the typical bully card and I let out a tired sigh.
Instead, she leaned over and took a seat right next to me.
“Hey,” she stretched her head for a handshake. “I’m Taylor.”
I eyed her suspiciously before taking her hand.
“Casey.”
“Oh, I know,” she smiled. “You’re all over BLAST.”
“You’re like totally popular right now,” one of the girls chimed in.
“Did you decide to keep it?” Another girl asked.
“Lydia,” Taylor cautioned, glancing at the girl for a while before turning back to me.
She placed a hand on top of mine and I got the idea she wasn’t trying to be mean. And yet, I felt uneasy.
“So. How did you get him to do you without a condom?”
I stared at her.
“You believe the baby’s his?”
She laughed hysterically. “Oh, hell no. Everyone knows you’re lying. But they also know he didn’t use a condom with you. And see, Greg and I have hooked up a few times but he always uses a condom and I don’t like it so I was wondering if…”
I stopped listening. My ears were ringing. She’s casually dismissed that the baby wasn’t Gregory’s. Taylor kept talking though, she’d already revealed her end goal so I wondered how she just kept going.
She still wasn’t done by the time the lecture door opened and our professor walked in.
“Oops,” she said. “Talk to you later?”
I didn’t respond, because I was busy staring at Gregory Thorne who walked in after the professor. He was looking around the hall as if he was looking for something, or someone. Then his eyes landed on me, and he started walking towards me.
The hall was quiet, and I could feel everyone’s gazes moving from him to me.
Taylor and her friends were already seated at the other side of the lecture hall, but they were also staring at us.
I frowned as he finally got to me.
He looked horrible. Dark circles beneath his eyes and a frown that didn’t fit his usual charming vibe.
“What are you doing here?” I whispered.
Gregory Thorne wasn’t in this class. I glanced at the professor, hoping he would say something about the obvious disturbance in his class, but he didn’t seem to care.
“Can we talk? Somewhere private?”
I scoffed. “I have class.”
Looking at him now, I didn’t know what I saw in him in the first place. It was crazy that a crush I’d had for months was destroyed in a night.
Because of him, I’d been branded as a liar and a baby trapper.
“I got you a pass. You’re excused from class for today.”
I was about to protest when the professor spoke.
“Casey Jones, can you leave my lecture hall? You’re disrupting class.”
I looked between him and Gregory, groaned, packed my books and stepped out of the hall with Gregory following closely behind me.
The moment we stepped into the hallway and the door closed behind us, I turned on him.
“What?”
Gregory glanced around before grabbing my elbow. “Not here.”
I yanked my arm away. “Don’t touch me!”
His jaw tightened but he nodded. “Fine. Just walk.”
“I am walking.”
“Somewhere private.”
“Why? So you can do what you want and then accuse me of sleeping around again?”
His expression darkened as he looked at me. “I didn’t come here to pick a fight. Your little stunt is affecting me.”
I laughed in disbelief.
This fucker.
We walked by a group of students who had their phones out to record us. Gregory led me towards an empty study room in the library building. Even though people saw us come in, no one dared to invade.
I crossed my arms the moment the door closed behind him. “Talk.”
He ran a hand through his hair and groaned. “I saw BLAST.”
I shrugged. “What about it?”
“People are saying mean things and I’m sorry about that. But you shouldn’t have tried to pin a pregnancy that’s not mine on me.”
