When she stepped through the front door, Pearl came face to face with her mother and grandmother. They both looked quite alarmed at her appearance but it was Maggie who spoke first.
"Your cheeks are looking alarmingly flushed, Pearl,” her mother remarked as Pearl walked into the house looking like she had just run a marathon.
