He was cut off at that moment by John Lewis. He was one of gentlemen Pearl had been introduced to at the business party that was thrown in honour of the partnership between Fairchild & associates and The Edensor corporation earlier that month.
He was also a wealthy businessman who though he was married had flirted with Pearl quite audaciously at the party and afterwards, but Pearl had never welcomed any of his advances.
Pearl did not notice, but he had been staring at her for several moments before he finally walked up to where she and Jake were seated.
